While playing, sometimes the client will not load skins. It may be the player's skin, or another player's skin, or a player head. The skin can show up on a player, but not on a head and vise versa, and may or may not be accompanied by an error output in the dev console.
This is seemingly random, and the effects are different each time the client is restarted. Sometimes, your skin loads, but no one else's, sometimes the reverse, sometimes random users don't have their skin. This is CLIENT SIDE ONLY, implying that the problem is not with the skin servers.

To add, this has been happening for a while, even when the servers are working normally. Granted that right now (25 Jan 2014) there are more occurrences than usual.

Then the skin server is having many many many issues ever since December. Hope the migration will help fix the issues. (and maybe multiple tries from the client)
I'm having a similar issue, but my client is downloading skins successfully. Instead of my skin being default Steve, it's a previous version of my skin and remains unchangeable.
You can see my report as the fourth duplicate on this issue for more details. I'm not sure it's actually a duplicate since every detail of the issue is different, but whatever.
