In spectator mode, mobs can still follow the player

When you attack a wolf in survival mode (making it aggressive) and then go into spectator mode, the wolf/wolves will continue to follow you but cannot attack you. When you fly into the air, the wolf/wolves will jump up at the invisible player.

This still happens in 14w06b, and not just with wolves. It happens with all hostile mobs.

Comment moved from MC-46820 as that was marked as duplicate:

It doesn't happen only with witches. That's the current behavior:

Hostile mobs won't chase you (the player) in spectator mode, however they will if the mobs spot you in survival; switching to spectator mode won't refrain them from chasing and attacking you, taking over a mob as host won't stop them either.

This video explains the same thing with zombies and spiders: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IPVxnXWkmbY

Interestingly, switching from survival to creative refrains (most of?) hostile mobs from chasing the player. You can spawn a creeper, let it see and chase towards you in survival, then switch to creative, creeper stops and won't explode.

Confirmed in 14w06b. Creeper exploded while I was on spectator.

Confirmed for 08a

In 1.8 if a creeper begins to explode, switching to Spectator/Creative won't stop the explosion unless you move out of its range. Revengeful zombies are also affected (see MC-64087).

Regressed (or a separete issue) in 1.8.3 for pets, see MC-46771

Now wolves that "joined" the attack still follow the player even if he changes the gamemode, however the wolf you punched stops chasing you

Should I create a new report for this?

Zombified Piglins continue following players in Spectator mode after beeing attacked!

In Java version 1.18.1
