Summoned Ghast Fireballs using this command (not sure about other fireballs, but I'll assume the same):
/summon Fireball ~ ~-1 ~ {direction:[0.0,0.0,0.0]}
give an error when trying to manipulate them using the @e selector after they have exploded. See screeenshot for error. I tried with the /kill command. It seems to stop after a while though.

/summon Fireball ~ ~-1 ~ {ExplosionPower:255,direction:[0.0,0.0,0.0]} and then /kill @e[type=Fireball]
or something like that.
Still couldn't reproduce. I get a large lag spike due to the explosion power, but no errors occur with the /kill command before, during, or after the explosion.
Is this still a concern in the current Minecraft version? If so, please update the affected versions in order to best aid Mojang ensuring bugs are still valid in the latest releases/pre-releases. If this has been done, we can reopen the issue.
Keep in mind that the "Resolved"-Status on this ticket just means "Answered", and that we are waiting for further information on whether this issue still exists or not. We will reopen it as soon as the requested information has been delivered.
Please do not mark unreleased versions (anything starting with "Future Version") as affected. You don't have access to them yet.
