Hitbox of mobs does not take surrounding blocks into account(both opaque and transparent blocks).
Mobs can be hit through the corners of walls (walls without corner blocks but still enclosing an area).
Mobs also take damage from Hostile mobs in same manner.
Example: Villagers can be hit through the corner by player(me with a sword in attached images).
Villagers take damage from zombies through corners as well(shown in attached images).

Here are their hit-boxes shown outside the boundaries of the blocks both opaque and transparent blocks.

Is this still a concern in the current Minecraft version 14w19a / Launcher version 1.3.11 or later? If so, please update the affected versions in order to best aid Mojang ensuring bugs are still valid in the latest releases/pre-releases.

Still present in 14w20b with the latest launcher 1.4.2.
Mobs hitbox still moves outside the boundaries of solid blocks, regardless of how many there are in the enclosed area.

These are the screenshots of the same issue present in 14w20b.

Confirmed for
14w30c
14w31a
Minecraft 1.8-pre 1

Confirmed 14w33c
Even if the mob's hitbox isn't showing through the block(s), they still can be punched/have damaged inflicted with lava through the corner.

There are a number of bug reports about attack radius that are all very similar. MC-2310, MC-18326, MC-50668, MC-63965, MC-71834, and MC-74907 are all about the attack radius of mobs extending through blocks. (Some mobs are more bugged then others, but it’s the same basic problem). There are also a few related issues:
MC-1297 is the same as the above, but for players.
MC-3059 is the same as the above, but for arrows.
Most or all of these reports should be consolidated into one, as they are all caused by the same base issue.
