I was poisoned by a cave spider and walled myself into a 1x2 hole to recover. I was in a mine shaft and backed into a corner created by 3 blocks of planks and the solid rock wall. I put a 2 high column of cobble on the other two sides and a cobble block right above my head. About 3 seconds after doing this I was hit from behind by a zombie. (Luckily only dropping to 1/2 a heart and not dying...) I turned and saw a zombie arm between the cobble and wood walls. It retracted after a second and did not reappear. After healing to 10 hearts, I backed into the same corner to see if it would glitch again, but so far it hasn't. The 'roof' was the last block I placed so it wasn't a case of being hit rights as I placed the wall block.

I should have also said that it was multi-player playing on a local server. Also, this is after rejoining the server since I logged out when I went to bed. I am still in the same spot standing in the 1x2 room though.
I'm assuming the crash report is 'output-client.log'...

Confirmed in 1.8.1. Also, this is a duplicate of MC-50668.

There are a number of bug reports about attack radius that are all very similar. MC-2310, MC-18326, MC-50668, MC-63965, MC-71834, and MC-74907 are all about the attack radius of mobs extending through blocks. (Some mobs are more bugged then others, but it’s the same basic problem). There are also a few related issues:
MC-1297 is the same as the above, but for players.
MC-3059 is the same as the above, but for arrows.
Most or all of these reports should be consolidated into one, as they are all caused by the same base issue.
