Multiplayer FPS Instability

So this is being reported by a lot of users on other forums. Basically, in single player people are getting extremely good FPS. However, in multiplayer, things change. All of a sudden we receive drops of FPS and general instability. This is happening in all 1.7.x versions and ONLY in multiplayer. Playing on servers on 1.6.x causes no FPS drops what so ever.

Some quotes from threads:

"And I noticed, that this problem started from 1.7(.2) onwards. So I really don't know what they did there."

"My CPU usage is pretty much maxed out, and in the task manager Java is using way more than it ever has before. I've tried reducing everything... updating java, and my GPU drivers, etc. etc..... Nada. But 1.6.4 runs as smooth as ever."

"I'm stumped too. I used to get a steady 120 fps, and now with the update, I'm down to wildly fluctuating 40-60. Things aren't loading, or loading so slowly it's painful. All the beautiful scenic vistas I used to have from my houses are just fog now, because they don't draw in even on max. Or they're big, ugly, empty chunks."

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Start Minecraft
2. Use any settings. You can use the highest possible or the lowest, you will still get massive FPS drops.
3. Play on any multiplayer server for ~10 minutes.
4. Enjoy massive lag spikes lasting 15 seconds every 8-10 minutes.

This has been tested on 15 servers, 14 had massive drops, 1 didn't have AS bad of drops, but they were still pretty terrible.

As you note, there are many, many reports of FPS drops already. Have you searched for anything on this bug site referencing the issues you are experiencing? There are various root causes either confirmed or identified so far, all depending on the server configuration.

I did and I only found stuff from 1.4 and 1.5, and even then it wasn't the same thing. I'm very new to the site, so I kinda had a hard time finding it.

Please force a crash by pressing F3 + C for 10 seconds while in-game and attach the crash report ([minecraft/crash-reports/crash-<DATE>-client.txt|http://hopper.minecraft.net/help/finding-minecraft-data-folder]) here.

Try without the resource pack.

All I have is optifine. And my FPS went from 80 to 100, but the constant FPS isn't the bug. The bug is that i have a very good computer with great FPS in minecraft 80% of the time, but there are massive FPS spikes in multiplayer every 8 minutes or so. This is happening to a very large amount of people, which is why i decided to post about it here as it seems to be a bug in the game.

Either way Optifine invalidates this report. Does it happen with the base unmodded vanilla Minecraft?

Is this still a concern in the current Minecraft version? If so, please update the affected versions in order to best aid Mojang ensuring bugs are still valid in the latest releases/pre-releases. If this has been done, we can reopen the issue.

Keep in mind that the "Resolved"-Status on this ticket just means "Answered", and that we are waiting for further information on whether this issue still exists or not. We will reopen it as soon as the requested information has been delivered.
