I was sailing through a river in a jungle, had plenty of space, and my boat crashed randomly and the broken parts were found straight ahead at the shoreline. This happened to my twice.

This has still not been fixed as of 14w29b. I have had enormous issues with this bug, especially since this last update. I won't even be near land and my boat breaks randomly, even when I am completely avoiding squids or anything that would break my boat.
This has happened to me multiple times. The first few times I thought it was probably a squid I didn't see, but there have been enough times where there have been no squid and I am using potion of night vision looking for stuff that I know it is a bug. I even died last time because I "hit the ground too hard", but there was no ground; I lost some really good gear that time.
Is this still a concern in the current Minecraft version? If so, please update the affected versions in order to best aid Mojang ensuring bugs are still valid in the latest releases/pre-releases. If this has been done, we can reopen the issue.
Keep in mind that the "Resolved"-Status on this ticket just means "Answered", and that we are waiting for further information on whether this issue still exists or not. We will reopen it as soon as the requested information has been delivered.
This is still a major and extremely irritating problem and has made use of the boat too risky to have any value. I die and the message indicates "player has hit the ground too hard" despite there being no ground (deep ocean) and moving at slow speed. It has happened to me three times in the last week with considerable loss of items that I was carrying across the ocean to trade in a village. Now two villages cannot be reached without using a boat so a fairly large portion of the world is unusable.
Was there maybe a squid in the water? Maybe you didn't see it
