This must be a bug that's already reported, but I can't find it.
When I break cactus, sometimes the block becomes invisible on the ground, but most often it totally disappears.
It seems more likely if the drop lands on the part of the cactus still on the ground, as if the "collect several items in one pile" kicks in even though it shouldn't.
Example: http://youtu.be/eUisTg0Dj7o
1st sequence shows cactus block completely gone
2nd sequence shows cactus blocks becoming invisible but still possible to be picked up from the ground.
(Don't know if it's related to the issue Etho had in UHC s16 e3 1:05 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=creeCiAGMR4 into the episode, where his crafting table disappeared as a pig walked in as he was placing it.)

Ah, did not know it was supposed to do that.
But no, the second, invisible part is blocks not placed but dropped, and they can't be seen from any angle.
Is this still a concern in the current Minecraft version? If so, please update the affected versions in order to best aid Mojang ensuring bugs are still valid in the latest releases/pre-releases. If this has been done, we can reopen the issue.
Keep in mind that the "Resolved"-Status on this ticket just means "Answered", and that we are waiting for further information on whether this issue still exists or not. We will reopen it as soon as the requested information has been delivered.
The first part of your report works as intended, as any items that come in contact with cactus are deleted (similar to burning with lava). The second part however may still be valid. Would you say it resembles this report: MC-45470 ?
