1. Launch the game
2. Enter fullscreen (F11)
3. Observe
Also see attached screenshot, which is the result of pressing F2 in fullscreen mode. The blue background seems to be the sky. Also, F2 doesn't seem to get the proportion right, the game displays about 3 times as small.
Workaround for still being able to play in fullscreen: Enter fullscreen on the main menu, then start/join a game.
This was fixed for a few hours after 1.8-pre1, but apparently it un-fixed itself, probably relating to LWJGL somehow.

The exact distortion seems based on the size of the window before maximizing. I'm seeing the bug on Mac OS 10.6.8 with Java 1.6.0_65 and an NVIDIA GeForce 9400 (should probably upgrade all of the above sometime…)
I have noticed this a few times on my computer. It seems to happen more frequently when the game is maximized while lagging, such as when first opening the world on a slower computer or if there are a lot of entities. As a temporary work around, this can be fixed by setting the game to not fullscreen and back to full screen. I have also noticed that this happens when switching from non-maximized mode to maximized mode while lagging. I have not noticed this on any of the new snapshots and I have not tested for it in 1.8-pre1, but this affected 1.7.10 and earlier versions.
I reported what sounds like the same issue in MC-56743
Can't confirm on Windows 8.1, running Java 1.7.0_45 with a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 550 Ti.
