[MC-61535] Horse breeding: Foal looks just like an adult horse

When breeding horses the baby looks just like an adult horse after its first feeding but you are not able to tame it.

Steps to reproduce:
-Get two tamed horses*
-Breed them together
-Feed the baby horse

I can confirm. Horse foals look identical to adults. You can tell that a horse is a foal if you cannot ride it at all.

Probably just a rendering problem. Just feed the 'foal' enough until you think it has grown up and you'll be able to ride/tame it as usual. Easiest way to verify this is in creative and feeding the 'foal' dozens of golden apples. In survival you'll just have to do it by trial and error. (14w30c)

Please stop commenting about how you demand that this bug to be fixed. I asked the developers on IRC to take a look at this bug during the 14w34 snapshots, but they are already in the pre-release phase and are trying only to fix crashes and game-breaking bugs. I suspect this will get fixed after 1.8 is released, perhaps in 1.8.1.

This actually didn't get fixed at all.
1.8.1-pre3, any foals will instantly become fully grown visually if you feed them just 1 piece of food. They will still be unridable until you feed them enough to become full horses.

@unknown: It a slight exaggeration to say it didn't get fixed at all - the smallest foals did get fixed. None of the intermediate sizes work as you mentioned - teenage foals still look like adult horses. Before 1.8 they had a total of 8 stages/sizes IIRC.

Mods: please reopen and mark 1.8.1-pre3 as affected.

This bug was fixed only for the smallest foals. The horse however, now grows (visually only) instantly to an adult after being fed just one piece of food. This ticket should be reopened.

Perhaps a possible but temporary solution for now: If experiencing this bug, try to close the world, then reopen it.Then it should be expected that the "Adult" foal, will be restored to its ordinary size and may then be tamed (if fed to grow into an adult, of course)

In 16w07a (and since at least 15w47c), takes multiple feedings to make a foal grow, and when it's grown, it is tamable. Fixed.

There's still strange behavior with horses in 16w07b. Find a fully grown horse, tame it, and then feed it a golden apple. You will teleport a meter or so, and the horse will not emit any hearts. The teleport is similar to the buggy mechanic that happened if you tried to mount a horse that looked fully grown, but in fact was till a foal.
