In a relatively old redstone-ready superflat world, when opened in 14w30c, any new chunks I generated were plains biomes (not desert) and were of the incorrect height.

According to the level.dat, your preset is
2;7,64x3,2;1;
, which indicates to mean you should see 64 layers of dirt, then 1 of grass, in new chunks. If I understand, it used to be redstone ready, which is neither of those things?
Is this still a concern in the current Minecraft version? If so, please update the affected versions in order to best aid Mojang ensuring bugs are still valid in the latest releases/pre-releases. If this has been done, we can reopen the issue.

please upload the world, or at least the level.dat from the world, if the world is too big
