item names are in brackets

Figured i'd add my two sense. If this is Works as Intended, I believe it should not be because Map Maker's can not remove these for the item names. If you need to do an item like this: Sword (Lvl 2), it would have to look like this: [Sword (Lvl 2)] which looks pretty stupid. Please consider this as a bug 🙂

Weird. This doesn't happen on /give commands (the square brackets don't double). I think it is in internal game code, not languages files.
I don't know how this can happening.

Mods do set bugs as confirmed. All bugs are considered existent unless proven not.

It's fairly obvious that this is intended. Nothing that I know of in Java will print strings or anything else surrounded in brackets. This wasn't an accident.

Not sure what spurred Mojang into adding the brackets – perhaps something to do with the spectator menu (note the lack of brackets on those tooltips)

If you ask me, it's such a minor cosmetic change that it doesn't warrant all the crying going on in this bug report. I even find it improves readability when the games' debug features are active – [Blue Wool] (#0035/11) much nicer looking.

The problem that I see with it is a lack of configurability for map makers. No longer can we use brackets like Sword (Stone) as it will look really odd inside brackets. It also breaks colored item names as they render white which sometimes looks terrible depending on the item. If map maker's wanted brackets, we could easily custom name items with brackets.

It's funny. We had an item that had square brackets around it. It looks pretty ridiculous with double square brackets.
