Sky/lighting doesn't get darker during a thunderstorm

This has been a long term bug in multiplayer. Now that single player is technically a server now it happens there as well. Looking at the picture, you have on the left half a normal rainy day without thunder. In the old single player mode the sky would get darker as indicated in the right half of the picture. Thunderstorms no longer make the sky look like this. Not sure if this is an actual bug or if it's intended to look like normal rain weather now.
EDIT: I guess this is indeed a bug since if it "Works as intended" it wouldn't still be open...

What I expected to happen was...:
When a thunderstorm occurs, the sky would usually get as dark as the right half of the picture.

What actually happened was...:
Thunderstorms don't change the sky from left to right making it difficult to determine if it's a thunderstorm or not whenever it starts to rain. The sky just stays on the lighter half of the picture. Being that mobs spawn during a thunderstorm, it would be nice to know the difference between the two so that players don't have to play guessing games if mobs are lurking outside or not. I know I'm not the only one who finds this annoying... >_>

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Go into any world whether it's in single player or multiplayer.
2. Turn on rain downfall.
3. Turn on thunder using new weather command for comparison.
4. Sky remains the same rather than transitioning between the two.

Same thing happening to me. Okay good, thought it was just me... I guess most people don't really give a crap.

Can someone AT LEAST confirm please? Is this being removed from the game or will it eventually be fixed? I know 99% of you don't give a crap but come on now, four months and no confirmation? >.>

Confirmation status was set 3 month ago I don't know what you are talking about.

Ok, sorry to sound like a noob. I didn't know "Community Consensus" also meant "Confirmed". I'm curious though, what's the difference between the two anyway?

Please do not mark unreleased versions as affected. You do not have access to this yet.

ITS FIXED!!! Wohoo!

Hi EvilSeph, thanks for fixing this. I guess you thought "haha wtf are they on who cares" etc, but I will appreciate this fix. 🙂 It provides a good warning that mobs will spawn even during daylight, and is overall a nice effect.

This has been bugging me since it never worked in SMP from the arrival of rain/thunder in MC Beta 1.5. 😃 Bugged me even more since it broke in SSP too. (when SSP became a local-only SMP to simplify the code base)

Looking at the times you set for assigning and resolving the issue was this fix as simple as I thought it might be? (simply a case of setting the correct weather effect state in conjunction with sending this correct state as a network message to clients)

YAY!! Thanks so much for fixing. No more setting up thunderstorm detectors. 😛

During a thunderstorm, is it supposed to be light level 7 or 10? Daylight detectors detect 10, but I thought it was supposed to be 7.
