After re spawning in void maps, you spawn in the void

In every single skyblock like map i've made/played, if you die, you spawn at around y=1 and die. This has broken all void maps, even though their spawn points are set to be on a platform. I have been trying to make a map, but even though I set the spawn point with MCEdit, it still spawns me in the void.

Can you please attach such a world ?

Actually, this is because you no longer spawn directly at the spawn point, but rather at a random point in like a 5-10 block radius at y=64, so on a void map this will usually land you right in the void. I certainly hope they change the spawning back to how it used to be. Also makes it so you can't set the spawn point underground easily.

In 13w06a, on a normal flat map, I dug / dropped into the void a bunch of times, in order to find out the region of the spawn point. It turned out to be a 20x20 region, which I then dug out completely (see 2 screenshots) so that all such spots drop you into the void.

Anytime I would spawn, it would be at y=0, as if it thought setting my feet on void would be a good idea. Even before the 20x20 excavation, when it was just riddled with holes, there were still many spots to spawn me on, but often it would spawn me over void.

Incidentally I expected to be able to fly out of the void after spawning in it, but funny thing is, I cannot.

This happens because if you have a spawn point in the air it will try to spawn you on the ground, but since there is no ground it spawns you on the last place it can spawn/render entities. Other wise know as Y: -64

Is this still a concern in the current Minecraft version 1.7.4 / Launcher version 1.3.8 or later? If so, please update the affected versions in order to best aid Mojang ensuring bugs are still valid in the latest releases/pre-releases.

No answer for nearly a year, assuming no longer an issue.
