When you turn death messages off (gamerule showDeathMessages false) the death message still displays on the death screen, but not in chat
I expected it to hide the message on the death screen too.
The reason why this is important, is because maps could use diffrent death messages with the use of redstone, for example with custom weapons, and then it still shows the default message on the screen.

But this makes the gamerule almost useless, I use a sustem that uses custom death messages, and this just breaks it for the person who died.
Also the gamerule is named deathMessageVisibility, why should it be visible when it's false?
I request you take another look at this, @unknown, this is going agains what the gamerule implies it should do
Can somebody PLEASE explain why this and MC-92093 are intended?
The gamerule showDeathMessages
only affects chat messages. This was probably added for servers that the chat is not always full of death messages
But this this is inconsistant behaviour, and doesn't imply fully what the gamerule name suggests it does
They could of course have named it showDeathMessagesInChat
or something similar, but I assume what you expect it to do is not what it is supposed to do
I still think that for this case and many other having some kind of groups is better than having gamerules or team options. For example when people do not want the death message in the chat but on screen or like you want it, to not be visible at all
True, a new gamerule could also help a lot here. A new one like DeathScreenMessage could do this, but that is kindof a feature request.
can anyone confirm?
