Boats can not move forward, while holding down button A and D.
Paddling animation continues, but the boat does not move.

but then it doesn't make sense the rowing animation is still there.
and when doing, left, right, left, right, you also move forward slowly, so both at once should logically move you foreward.

I disagree that this is intended, without official word of mojang
