Riding a pig down elevation deals damage to pig and player once later dismounted or un-select / throw away the carrot on stick.
Off sync some how.
The more elevation change, the more damage dealt.

I think this issue instantly killed a mule with 13 hearts health when I dismounted, dropping the saddle, leather, chest, and all contents of chest. Later it brought a horse with 15 hearts and diamond horse armor from full health to 2.5 hearts. Both times dismounted at a height of 1 or two blocks.
I had this happen with 2 horses. The second horse didn't seem to take damage every time I dismounted but I have to test more. Using 16w06a and multiplayer 16w06a.
Mount up a hill. Jump off further down. It like the horse is in the ground.
Did some more testing...it certainly is from going up/down while riding horse. Damage when dismounting can be avoided if dismount is in any level of water.
Could someone update the title so that it is for all ridable entities?
My donkeys kept taking damage and dying for no apparent reason, it is nigh impossible to keep them alive over any significant amount of terrain. The player can also take a lot of damage or die by riding them. It was difficult to figure out what exactly was happening but I think I am experiencing exactly the same issue as shown in the video with the pigs.
My guess is it is not a de-sync but rather that the game is storing info of the elevation when you mounted and the difference when you dismounted, and counting it as an elevation change impact, i.e. a fall.
WORK-AROUND>>>>>> dismount in water
still in 16w07a
Can confirm for 16w07a
can confirm for 16w07a
Verified FIXED in 16w07b for both land and water dismount of horse causing no damage to horse or player. Nice job fixing this fast 🙂

I'm experiencing this again in 1.14 pre1.
Going down hill on a horse and then dismount damages the horse scaled to how much down hill, and it is worked around when you dismount in water. Exactly as before as far as I can tell.
I see this as well
