When I attempt to update from Minecraft PE 0.12.1 to 0.12.3 in the iOS App Store, clicking the "Update" button briefly shows a progress indicator before turning back into an "Update" button.
This issue appeared after updating to iOS 9.1, but I'm not sure whether it was an issue before the update. I believe that auto-updates were working before this, though I'm not the primary user of this device or Minecraft PE.
I went through various possible fixes with Apple Support, including restarting the device and logging in and out of the App Store/iTunes account. Their suggestion was to try uninstalling and reinstalling the application, but I'm not sure whether that would lose my kids' worlds.
Is there a way to uninstall and reinstall Minecraft PE on iOS without losing the saved worlds? From what I can see, my kids don't have any sort of Mojang account configured, so I believe the worlds are only stored on the device itself (and in backups). I'm not sure whether Minecraft PE supports logging in to an account anyways.

"When I attempt to update from Minecraft PE 0.12.1 to 0.12.3 in the iOS App Store", sorry, but there isn't any 0.13.x in iOS atm.
Luis Robles: I didn't say anything about 0.13.x. I'm not sure why this issue is invalid. As far as I can tell, 0.12.3 was released less than two weeks ago and is the current version in the iOS App Store.
My apologies if I'm not familiar with the upcoming Minecraft PE release schedule, but are you suggesting I wait to update my kids' app until 0.13.x? If it still won't update, will this issue be valid then?
Hi again @unknown, Luis was just a bit too quick to resolve the issue. On Android and Win10 devices beta testing of a new version 0.13.0 has just started so we are flooded we new issues and trying to keep on top of things.
I've reopened your ticket and I am still awaiting a response. It is possible that the update issue has something to do with the beta testing of 0.13 but I doubt this since beta testing is not available on iOS at the moment.
In the mean time, if you have a file explorer on your iDevice, you can copy the contents of the minecraftWorlds folder, uninstall, reinstall and replace the minecraftWorlds folder and all your worlds will be safe. I'm just not sure if the uninstall erases minecraftWorlds on iOS (that's what I'm waiting for confirmation on).
Uninstalling WILL delete all of your worlds. You can go onto a PC with iTunes and move the worlds to your desktop before uninstalling and reinstalling, and then put them back.
You will have to get the MCPE worlds folder through trial and error, make sure to write down what folders you went through to get to the world folder.
@unknown, in iOS, the minecraftWorlds folder is located at Apps/com.mojang.minecraftpe/Documents/games/com.mojang
Per Kalina at StackExchange. I don't expect this has changed.
I'll resolve this ticket as Done for now, but comment again if you still cannot install 0.12.3 after the uninstall.
Hi @unknown on Android and Win10, uninstalling the game and reinstalling Minecraft Pocket Edition will not erase your worlds. I do not have an iOS device to confirm that this is also true under iOS. I have pinged one of our other mods who does have iOS devices and asked her to comment on your issue.
