I was using my riptide trident then I was gonna land on the grass and use my water bucket but I died mid air and it said I hit the ground when clearly I did not I was at least 8 blocks away from the ground when I died.

Were you above any solid blocks prior to death? Because this seems to be what causes it for me, at MCPE-120079

This happened to me on Bedrock Xbox One Edition too, and it happened to me multiple times when I was even 40 blocks away from any solid block. I usually take very high or lethal damage when I'm near a block. And yes, I do mean being near a block..... not touching/hitting/crashing into one, simply being near a block will have the game damage me as if I actually did hit the block.

Yea it never done that to me but I took 9 hearts one time and when landed on ground I died
