Moved to Y 254 or 255 after going above 256 and rejoining

I am not sure but it is likely it happens on other platforms

And as long as your above height limit then leave and rejoin, you will get teleported some where near Y 254

You can see in the pictures before i left i teleported my self to Y357 but when i rejoined i was at Y254 

not sure if this is intented

EDIT: It works anywhere over 256 tried Y 50000 and Y 100000

Build height is 256 in Bedrock, when reloading into world, you will be set to the build height where you can stand (feet at 255, head at 256).
