Swimming and in Inventory?

When you are holding up, to swim forward or holding jump to swim, and hit the 3 dots with the other thumb your character keeps swimming while the Inventory is up.

This keeps you from drowning while looking at your inventory in deep water. Would you rather have the player sink and drown?

Yes, actually people should figure out that they will stop swimming and start to sink so they shouldn't be checking their inventory in deep water.

What I mean is I suspect this is a feature, not a bug. I don't see any reason to believe that it's unintentional.

Well i tested it, and if you just stay in water and open the inventory you won't auto swim. You need to hold Up/jump when you click the 3 dots. I think its a kind of glitch, not a feature. Like in PC minecraft you used to hold forward and open inventory and your character keeps walking because it got stuck.

You're right, I never noticed that before... maybe it's a bug after all. It's still a useful behavior though... if you want to stay afloat while you look at your inventory, you can move forward or jump while you open it. If you want to drown, you can stop moving before you open it. 🙂

That should be at the fault of the player that decided to enter their inventory while swimming, just like in the PC Version.

@Andrew, can you give an example of a situation where this inventory swimming behavior might detract from someone's enjoyment of the game?

In other words, is there ever a case where drowning while looking at your inventory is actually desirable?

So I noticed that something really similar happens if you open the inventory just as you are auto-jumping onto a block... you'll jump up and down until you close the inventory. I'm still not convinced this is really a bug worth fixing, but of course it's not up to me, and it does appear to be a bug, however small...

Is this still a concern in the current Minecraft version? If so, please update the affected versions in order to best aid Mojang ensuring bugs are still valid in the latest releases/pre-releases.

Cleaning up all the old issues - please reply if this affects 0.9.3.
