"World upload failed" when I save and quit to the title screen

I keep getting a message that says World upload failed. Would you like to try again? Everytime I leave any world and no matter how many times I try I cannot sync the world data. I also can’t upload any of my worlds to a realm when the export is complete I get stuck on the uploading world to the cloud screen where the bar sits at full but never actually uploads the world. I’m stuck on this screen until I cancel it.

Same thing happened to me, and i'm scared of uninstalling and install cause i Will lose a lot of progress in my current world.

It all started with the most recent update...

migrated

Mine is doing the same thing. I had to uninstall and reinstall after the update on Tuesday (20 September) to even get the game to run. Since then, I get the “world upload failed message every time I save and quit. Until now as long as I clicked retry it would eventually save but not this time.

migrated

Same here. Have not been able to sync my world to the cloud since updating to 1.19.30. Afraid to do any work in my world as I might lose any progress if it wont sync to cloud. Extremely frustrating.

Same issue. I'm on 1.19.30. Xbox One bedrock, no mods. For the first few days it started going sideways, I'd hit "retry" but I only had to hit it once. It would ask me again for a second retry, but if I hit it everything went incredibly sluggish. If I didn't, it eventually acted as if it saved, but I couldn't tell if it completed its cloud save with local save or if it was local save only. It would go to the file screen with no status message regarding its save status.

After a few days, its behavior went from hit retry once and wait to now it just re-tries over and over. As much as I hated to do it, I hit cancel. I reloaded my save and it was not corrupted. The problem is I'm not sure it loaded from the cloud or local storage. I'm assuming that the autosave did it its best to keep that file up to date...somewhere.

Additionally, once that whole save mess happens, it goes all stuttery. The change between the game save area and the file save causes the in-motion, biome panning backgrounds to stutter. If I don't wait, I can wind up hitting the wrong buttons if I start pressing them. I think that I'm hitting the edit button next to a save file, but suddenly I'm creating a new world because it's moved my selection choice to the save file menu's top again.

On my Xbox, it sometimes even shows a notification that says "syncing world data succeeded".

Same. Xbox Series X 1.19.30.

But does the world still save to the cloud?

I'm on Xbox one bedrock and doesn't work for me

This world sync bug must be caused by the missing local state folder for minecraft after the 1.19.31 update for xbox.  Which also causes world loss and corruption. The files for the updated game are missing. This is the issue everyone on Xbox is facing.  Duplicate game tiles, sync issue, world loss.

I have the same issue but for a different reason. I was playing like normal on October 12 when i got kicked out of the game because "world size to big" it then tried to upload to cloud which failed. After trying to open the world again the game crashed. Now the world is corrupted and Minecraft crashes everytime I try to open my almost 4 year old survival world. Me and my friends put so much effort and time into it and now it's all gone...

Edit: the copy's of the world are also corrupted for the same reason. It shows this pink/black loading screen error shortly before crashing the game

Initially after the 1.19.31 update my worlds transferred ok and I could play on them, but because I create a couple of backups of my main world the save file was around 3.5gb and it started to say,,,, as above, can’t sync to cloud,,, out of space,,, then eventually greyed out with the file string of characters with a 0.01 mb size, no matter what I tried everything was corrupted,,, I bit the bullet,,,, in manage game I deleted the saves from everywhere not just local as it gives you that option now, then I opened Minecraft it showed no worlds at all, like when you play for the very first time,,, I had no saves on the cloud or console (or so I thought) then I deleted Minecraft completely from the console,,, I reloaded Minecraft,, then it updated and when I opened the game my worlds where all there,, but at the same save point as the 5th October,, so I lost any progress from the 5th after the update, which shows after the update the files in the worlds folder weren’t getting updated with any progress,, I lost progress and stuff I’ll have to do again,, but I’ll take that any time,,,, I got my world back,, I now only keep one backup of world and delete that before making a new backup,,, keeping the save file under 2gb ish,,, it seems to be saving ok although you do get a quick flash of the can’t save to cloud,,, then says ‘done’ I’m not saying do what I did,,, but it worked for me and thought I would share it as it might help someone.

Sad to see no movement on this one for a while. I am having this issue everyday when I play my survival world that I have had for years that is linked to all of my Minecraft achievements.

My major issue is that my xbox is becoming sluggish and I want to do a factory reset on it to clean things up, but I can't because 1) There's no way to actually verify what is saved to the xbox cloud, 2) I do not have a second xbox to make sure my saves are all there and 3) I cannot use realms to upload this world because Realms constantly chokes on it.

So I am basically held hostage by a Minecraft bug that has been around for months that isn't getting fixed. Any details needed by the dev team I am happy to share.

Still being observed on v1.19.51.

World size 682.6mb.

FYI, this world was created around mid 2017 and has persisted through every patch since then. Xbox has never been reset.

migrated

It's been an ongoing issue for me too.  I lost a world that I had been building with my children for over a year and it's happening on our new one too.

Im in the same boat, cannot play MC as it fails to sync world data for some reason. Even i tried a new world it doesn't save to the cloud. Cleared local saves still don't work. My world is 11-12 yrs old and 1.8gb.

This problem still exists in version 1.19.63 and probably is because the cloud backup is “capped”. I had to delete a lot of my worlds after the “Java and Bedrock merge” due to this “cap”. I now only have 3 worlds but due to a lack of space in the “cloud” I may have to drop down to only 1 world. My Xbox can store a lot more than the Microsoft Cloud storage allows. Why don’t we have a way to expand our cloud storage for our Minecraft games since as we build in our worlds the file size will constantly increase. This is what has started this issue and it definitely needs fixing. I really don’t want to lose or delete my older worlds because of all the time it took to build them into what they are today.

As of 1.19.63 on Xbox one s, it looks like my legacy world may have uploaded. No errors after saving this morning. And it took it's sweet time on the upload progress bar (683mb world). Maybe it's fixed?

Would be nice to have a way to verify it...

migrated

False alarm. Issue happened again after saving the world file again. Uggggh

migrated

Still an issue as of 1.19.73.

Anyone gonna fix this? Anybody even working on it?

I watched a YouTube the other day and he said the reason y it does not sync they changed something. If you look on the file of Minecraft on the Xbox and look at the app model. They have changed it to GDK. That is what I causing the issue.

migrated

@alexdr32 got a link for that video?

So they changed something...  it's still an issue that needs to be fixed.  You can't just leave a game broken because you decided to change something.

Here is a link to it. I believe he done another 2 months ago. Check his youtube name https://youtu.be/JkYYGlGx1bY

I haven't tried the video, but I posted September 29, 2022. I'm still subscribed to the thread, though, so I thought I'd add some things I've experienced since then. The Xbox One that I was having Minecraft Bedrock issues started having functional issues unrelated to Minecraft, so I replaced it with the newer model Xbox Series X. I was terrified that my worlds weren't going to be in the cloud because of all the world upload failures. When I loaded up the game on the new Xbox, there was this list of saved games that all said "copy of" a filename. These turned out to be my worlds from the old Xbox. Also, everything in the game loaded up fast. It runs the game very fast, too. I've been pushing it like crazy to see if I can make it stutter or break and it hasn't. Like a huge iron farm, massive amounts of hoppers, etc., all in one chunk. After a few months of using it, sometimes it says world upload failed for a second but then goes on with it.

Here's my takeaway. Minecraft is moving on from working on things that can function on older Xbox devices. I'm not sure that applies to other devices, though. That doesn't relieve them from a duty of care to let its users know that's what's happening, though. We need a clear method of seeing and working with our cloud storage. Most of us don't know how much we have so that we can manage it. We just get a file list. Most of us are not capable of easily doing things in complicated videos, even though I'm grateful for this community sharing them. I also understand that the crew that makes changes to the game for us have superiors to answer to in what's up next for the game. If you're listening, thank you for your hard work, but we really need help with this problem. Please.

The reason to why worlds fail to sync or load is due to them changing the app model to GDK. Files have been moved and not all or any that may of corrupted peoples saves.

I don't know if this issue was fixed and came back or it just never got fixed and I got lucky cause it's back and I cannot sync up my worlds again same as before, how does this keep happening??? Is this somehow not a top priority???

Agreed, the game has been a joke, update the gameplay with things. But the most important thing is the Syncing issue. They need to fix it now. The GDK update was pathetic. No need for that. MC USED to be a go to game but not no more.

I'm going to try this again but try to somehow explain in as much detail as I'm capable of as to how this bug happens in an attempt to reopen this ticket.

  1. Open up any world in minecraft

  2. Play it for as long as you want it doesn't really matter how long it's played

  3. Leave and receive a message saying either (World upload failed) or (Local save successful)

For the world upload failed message I get a cancel or retry request I press retry and no matter how many times it just never syncs. This basically means that because my world didn't save to the cloud any local save data I have on my xbox will be deleted upon uninstalling minecraft or trying to transfer it over to another xbox (I've tried both and this happens) for the other message however deleting worlds never fixes the issue even when I delete old copies of big worlds (600 MB) or so but I never needed to delete any worlds before a certain update that made me install a second version of minecraft, a version that transfers your files from the original to this new verion of the game 2 or maybe 1 year ago I don't remember, which replaced the original much better working version of the game.

Hope this helps I was as descriptive as I could be.
