So I was playing one day as normal and I saved the world as normal and hopped on another game as per usual I noticed that lately my xbox was feeling a bit sluggish so. I went to the setting and console info did a reset but saved my games and data. After doing this I hopped back on signed in everything was running smooth again then I got on minecraft. Went to go load up my world and boom got hit with error message of "the world is not fully synced or has been corrupted. try playing the world on a console where its in a good state and try migrating it again" So I turned my xbox off tried signing out tried reseting again nothing seems to be working and this is the only world that won't load up I've got older worlds that use more data that load up just fine but this one does not. if I reset my xbox and account the pull the game up and select the map it runs the data thing as usual gets to about 97% then gives me the error. Can someone please help me I've invested to much time into this world just for it to go to waste.

Have you tried making a copy of the world save, to see if that helps?

I have the same issue and can't copy the world as the feature is disabled by the sync failure - just comes up with the same error...

So this just happened to me today. There hasn't been a post here in over a year. HAS anyones worlds beat this error message or is my world just gone for no good reason.

So far, I've not been able to recover this world. I've also lost a new world too, but fortunately had a back up this time. Seems to be worlds over a a certain size when the Xbox needs to be rest (factory reset) or when a user is removed and reinstated and the worlds need to sync from their database it's corrupting my larger sized worlds. Makes me hesitant playing on these worlds to add more data (size) as I'll ultimately lose all progress!!!

I've been having the same issue since summer 2017. I've been working with various supports for 2-3 years and haven't gotten any real help. Microsoft support had me try a number of things, and nothing worked. They sent me to Mojang support, and all of my tickets have had bot replies with nothing to do with the request. You can see requests from 2017-18 and there still hasn't been a fix or even confirmation that it's being worked on. I think this is a pretty important issue that Mojang/Microsoft should prioritize, but that hasn't been the case for years. Just sucks that a world that I put so much time into over 6 years is essentially gone.

I feel your pain Griffin! Still nothing 😞 I've essentially stopped playing Minecraft through fear of losing another world I spend hours/days on...

Minecraft Customer Support said they can't do anything to fix a corrupted world, and directed me to a Wiki on how to fix a corruption on Java Edition, even though I specifically stated the issue is on Xbox and mentioned the bug ticket MCPE-40552.

Hello,
I have also had the same problem for 1 year and I sent an email to Mojang and after a month and a half still no answer. Maybe they have found a solution since then and if so I'll let you know if they give me a solution but I clearly think it's going to be complicated to find our worlds again which is a pity because I spent more than 70 hours on one world with a friend and then ba from one day to the next no longer available.
If you find a solution, I would be happy to pass it on.
Goodbye, now.

Will they ever fix this problem?

Mojang,
The recent forced update for Minecraft on xBox One (1.16.200-ish) is what triggered this for me. I lost a fairly sizable survival world (6GB+) that I've been working on since I started playing this game. It's really sad. The worst part is it's on xBox, which very much limits our ability to "back up" the games.
There are recommendations all over the web for how to recover games on Java and PC bedrock, but the few I've found for xBox were failures for me. I tried everything recommended with the same results – corrupt worlds.
Please give some attention to this issue. Everything was fine until the update. We can't choose our game version on xBox like the Java players can on PC, so we cannot go back.
Until this is resolved, we're done with Minecraft in our house.
Such a shame . . .

so my daughter has a world on our Xbox One that she wants to play on our Xbox Series X - but when she loads it we get "The world is not fully synced or has been corrupted..."
We have tried everything we can find online to no avail. Help!

Is there any update on this issue? Minecraft updated to the .220 version and the issue still exists.

When I attempt to load my 538MB world it gives this error: "The world is not fully synced or has been corrupted. Try playing the world on a console where it's in a good state and try migrating again." This happened as I was booting up minecraft at the same time my xbox was trying (and failing) to update the "Events (beta)" app automatically. I believe it is the cloud save that is corrupted. The local folder that contains the level.dat file is empty. I've tried restarting my xbox, clearing the MAC address, clearing the local cache, deleting my profile from the console, and even downloading the world on another xbox while logged into my profile. Is the file at all recoverable, or is it possible to transfer the corrupted file to external storage device for troubleshooting on my laptop? I just want access to the file on the cloud server. The file is there. It is saved there. It's just in a bad state I guess. Microsoft support told me that Mojang manages cloud storage for Minecraft, but I have opened multiple tickets from their help desk at https://help.minecraft.net and they have provided absolutely no help. The best you get from the help desk is "sorry I can't help you with that." And a link to an FAQ page. Absolutely ridiculous. Again, I just want access to the files that are saved on the cloud server. The files are there. It says they are, but they are not downloading properly to my local device because the files are corrupted. Even a corrupted file can be useful if I had access to it. Mojang appears reluctant to give users access to THIER OWN DATA. If anyone knows who has access to the cloud servers, please get me in touch with this person because the help desk apparently can't or won't. Poor customer service all around, mediocre technical support, and it's really sad when I know how to fix this issue I just don't have access to the files and nobody at Mojang understands my basic request: I want to download the corrupted files that are on the cloud server. I can't do it from my console because it won't download corrupted files. It's really not that hard to understand. I hope someone intelligent reads this.

My situation is similar to Matt Montrief with the difference being that the issue started for me after my Xbox One X console update failed several times (6 or 7) several reboots required before completing successfully. During the time of the console update, NO games were loaded. Once the console update completed, I had to log on to each account as if it was a new setup. A previous profile was found and was able to be loaded. Minecraft was loaded and 5 out of my 7 worlds loaded successfully. The two world that fail to load show the same message details that Matt provided.
For Matts request of getting a copy of his world files, I agree and would like the same for the two worlds that fail to load for me. This would be very simple to Mojang to setup. We already have Mojang accounts and a simple FTP would provide us a copy of our world files.
Furthermore Mojang should also provide the steps necessary to get the files back to the proper folder structure on our consoles.

I have just tested the 1.16.221 Hotfix.... The issue has not been resolved.

Hello, just want to say I'm also having this same problem as everyone else. If there is a way for my save to be recovered I would love to know.

this happened to my creative and survival worlds. Creative one is 700 mb. And survival one is 260 mb. I spent a long time on those worlds. After factory reseting the xbox. Its gone. Cant sync worlds. I lost like 1 year of work in total. Im really upset by the fact mojang has done nothing about this. Do they even care about Minecraft anymore??? Ill just quit Minecraft untill this gets actually fixed. You probably lost so many people because of this. If you cant fix minecraft bedrock. Return the legacy console version. Where the game actually worked.

I see Mojang removed my last comment. After the latest update the issue still persists. I'll not bother pointing out the short comings of Mojang and Mojang support not dealing with this issue. I have also stopped playing this game after loosing hours upon hours in 2 worlds which are my favorite ones.

This probably has something to do with xbox cloud saves. As i never hear this issue happening on other platforms. I hope mojang fixes this.

Just found out something. Is when i put my console to offline mode. And then when i loaded up mc. Only the synced worlds and the 2 worlds i cant load are there. So they were in the xbox. just unplayable worlds. Cant find their files either. So basically. theyre lost in the xbox. Hope this helps

Update: When i use this app on xbox called "Mc addons manager" heres what i did in there: U:\Users\DefaultAccount\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.MinecraftUWPConsole_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\minecraftpe\games\com.mojang\Storage
That was where the worlds synced at. I tried getting the world fixed... But the level.dat file was corrupted. So basically. It wasn't going to the right user file. And it came in as an incomplete folder.

I installed MC Addons Manager... The two folders for the two worlds that will not load for me each have one file in them named Sync_Locked. I deleted the two files and tried to load the worlds. Same message and the Sync_Locked files were recreated. I would like to know where these worlds are saved in the cloud i.e., Microsoft or Mojang. I did reach out to Microsoft. They looked at my account and told me that everything looked good on their end. Mojang does not have the same level of support that Microsoft does and questions are not answered.
BTW... Minecraft version 1.17.2 (latest update) issue still persists

Minecraft version 1.17.11 (latest update) issue still persists.
I have done the following:
1.) Called Microsoft
2.) Following Microsoft troubleshooting, I remove my account from my Xbox
3.) Restarted the console
4.) Logged back on to the Xbox
5.) Loaded Minecraft, tested the world's giving the World Sync Error - Same Sync Error
6.) Test with a working world - Successfully loaded
7.) Following Microsoft troubleshooting, I remove Minecraft from my console
8.) Restarted the console
9.) Reinstalled Minecraft
10.) Loaded Minecraft, tested the world's giving the World Sync Error - Same Sync Error
11.) Test with a working world - Successfully loaded
Microsoft confirmed that my account, console and game are working correctly. It was recommended by Microsoft that I contact Mojang support for this issue. Microsoft states that this issue in an in-game issue and needs to be resolved by the developer.
Mojang - I am looking to have an update on this issue. Microsoft at least provides phone support and troubleshooting. Something Mojang is seriously lacking in. In-game data is stored on Mojang Servers and some from Mojang needs to look into this. I would expect a much better response to such a widespread issue.

Please re-open MCPE-120402 as it is not resolved. If Mojang/Jira is going to ignore the issue in that ticket, then I was someone to actively working on my original ticket as the issue is not resolved and I am in no way satisfied.

+1 on this issue, tried the basic troubleshooting steps and no luck.
I've tried:
Deleting Local Data
Hard reset of xbox
Redownloading Minecraft
no luck

Tried on the recent version and Worlds is still corrupted. Hopefully there's a fix to this, or at least a sideloaded software mini patch where you can revert the last save.

If anyone sends me the right steps, I'm willing to provide a sample world for analysis to the devs @jay wells

Spent 4 years making a world, created backups just every so often in case it corrupted but no all the worlds have been corrupted and i'm gessing it's the world memory size updates fault.

We are also impacted by this issue. We have requested a previous restoration of data prior to this outage, however support has sent us here to comment on the bug.
Currently, through no fault of our own, we are unable to access our world. This appears to be a regression, based on the date of the original filing. It is unclear by this bug's history if this issue is getting the proper traction required, but there is a customer impact here that needs to be addressed.

Second time this was removed.
This was removed. Mojang/Jira doesn't want the truth out!
This is still an issue 1.17.40.
So everyone watching this is aware, Mojang/Jira support has indicated that they will not address this. If the game has lost your worlds, then they are gone. Mojang/Jira support points the finger at Microsoft and Microsoft points is right back at Mojang/Jira. As players who have invested many hours, days, weeks and months into the worlds we lost. No one cares. My solution to this issue is simple, I no longer play Minecraft. I refuse to invest any time into a game that cares as little as Mojang/Jira does about an issue like this that has affected so many.
Still an issue with 1.17.41

I cant do anything because cloud don't let me do a copy or load the save. Can you do fix for this? Many players lost their world and it is a update error not for our fault

What is the status of the opened bug? At this time, all those impacted have no resolution or any indication that the bug is being addressed by the pg.

I've been watching this issue since I commented on it on 19th August 2019. What I've seen since then is a number of similar issues closed indicating this is the main issue with this focus and a number of people list the same issue in the comments (as well as what most of us have already tried to rescue our worlds). I've seen updates on Hotfixs and yet still no actual dedicated fix or comment on the Jira from anyone at Mojang since my first comment. This has in essence become a frustrated community board conversation. It is not being looked at with a view to fixing our worlds.
This is a known issue. It seems to be for worlds that have become too big for them to sync correctly every time - indeed corrupting them beyond repair. The right thing to do would be to say that and that the worlds have gone. Ironically them being the largest size means they are the worlds we spent hours, days, months and years playing and creating.
The worlds are gone, corrupted and cannot be retrieved is my honest opinion. Maybe there will be a fix to stop this happening for future worlds, but as much as it pains me to say it the truth of the matter these are gone and if Mojang can actually have the courage and transparency to say that we can all move on and choose how we want to play the game going forward - or not as will be the case for some.

In my case, the world size would not be the cause... My 3 largest worlds are 250-ish MB, 350-ish MB and 550-ish MB, The 250 MB and 550 MB are the worlds that I have lost. The 350 MB opens fine. What I am frustrated with on top of the loss of those two worlds, is that Mojang support told me that my world data is not stored on any cloud server. When I asked then how can world synchronization fail if the data is stored locally only. I did not get a response. I did enjoy this game at one time, but since loosing my 2 favorite worlds which are also the worlds I have put the most time into, I have stop playing.

I have experienced this issue on two worlds that I have spent countless hours on, and I can’t believe this has not been addressed since those worlds were affected. Since it seems to affect the larger worlds, this will only continue to be a problem as people spend more time playing. Going into a game knowing this, how are you supposed to enjoy the game while being aware that it will eventually be unplayable? This is incredibly unfair and makes the game pointless until it is addressed directly and corrected appropriately.

Due to the lack of response from Jira/Mojang on this issue, it is clear that this is not a priority and is not being worked on. On the Microsoft Store, Minecraft has a 4.8 star rating.... Bet that would drop if everyone who has had this issue, wrote a review of the problem and the problem with support on this issue.

Well as I usually do when updates are released, I logged in and started Minecraft.... And as I expected, my two lost worlds are still lost. I did notice though that there is now an extra dialog box telling me that my worlds won't open. It is comforting to see how Jira/Mojang continue to push out more and more content but refuse to resolve this issue that has affected so many gamers and has been on going for almost two years..
Version 1.18.0 latest one tested

Crazy how this issue is still going on. Still affects 1.18.0
Btw when i click on the worlds that are gone. It crashes Minecraft.

is everyone who is facing this issue have big size worlds? it seems if your world goes 250 MB+ it becomes unstable
whatever file system they use is maybe not stable enough for big worlds

My issue was "resolved" and linked here - however, my issue is that I cannot delete the individual worlds that have failed to sync properly from my Xbox itself since there is no way to access the "edit save" screen from the message box that appears whenever this happens. If I try deleting the save data from my console, the corrupted save is automatically downloaded from the cloud the very next time I reopen the game... EVEN after I have uninstalled the entire game.
My request was for a "delete save" option to be added to the message box so that these corrupted saves can at least be deleted from the console AND the cloud updated to remove them from there as well WITHOUT have to delete every Minecraft save from Everywhere (which is an option, but too drastic an option since I obviously do not want to lose any other worlds that are not corrupted). The current situation just adds insult to injury - having lost one world to corruption and then having to lose every other world to this lack of the "delete this individual corrupted save" option.
PS: Yes, I am very angry about this this at the moment. Corruption happens... I can accept that... but THIS lack of an appropriate delete option is simply ridiculous... that it has, apparently, gone on for years now, makes it even more ridiculous.

Hi.
My son has worlds that him & his mates created on his minecraft & they are greyed out, so they can't go on them. We have tried contacting & chatting to gamers & have got nowhere. Please can someone help? He's 12 years old & heartbroken as spent so long building it. I'm completely lost with it all. Thank u x

This is also an issue in 1.19.2

Affects 1.19.22

I am having the same problem on 1.19.22. I just had to soft reset my Xbox because it wasn't working correctly. After doing this I had to go through the initial setup again then I was back to normal. The problem is all my saves got deleted off my Xbox and that included my Minecraft worlds. If I go to pick a world I have to wait for the syncing things to finish just to play that ONE world. I get the failed to sync error when I try to play (sync) my world which is 500MB.

They just closed my report because it supposedly looks like yours, but in my case it does not synchronize almost any of my worlds and my world of survival what matters most to me does not sync in the official version but if in the Minecraft preview.
At this point I don't know whether to feel tranquility to see that my survival world is still there or just angry that I can't play it to get my achievements and continue advancing in it

Been following this issue since I filed one similar to everyone’s experience around 2019. The worlds I lost are still affected with the recent update. Just really unfortunate since I had those worlds since xbox360 eta. I guess I’ll be one of the people hoping for a miracle and following this ticket. Hopefully Microsoft/Mojang can create a fix that will recover lost .dat files.

Wish I'd known not to do a reset like Microsoft instructed me to. Here in dec of 2022 I had the same issue everyone else in thisthread has. I cannot sync my world's back into the game.

Since they keep “ closing” reports I will add my comment here.
Xbox game data on failed to sync worlds is being added to my world save data file and causing errors out of data storage space on both xbox and minecraft, I have 1 realm 1.2 gb world I can sometimes get into and 1 unplayable greyed out world ( my original 9 year old world ). This load will not sync as it gets to 99% then just crashes the game, however I can fully load and play my world on Xbox preview with no issues.
My game in manage games balloons from 3.4 gb to over 11 gb without any game play, it just goes back up/ down without any action from me.
I am again getting constant can’t save data messages.

Same issue here. Had to reinstall Minecraft and now my original world I’ve carried over sinc xbox 360 won’t download. Loads into preview just fine but I don’t want to play it in preview. It’s around 360MB. Small worlds download jus fine. This is a somewhat recent issue as I know when I got the series x I had to import it and it went just fine. So one of the last few updates seems to have broken it.

Here is my annual checkup to see if this bug is solved. Looks like there is no traction, such a shame to lose a world that we all had for a long time. Especially individuals similiar to my case where we had it since xbox360. As the latest update for the xbox version, my worlds are still corrupted

As of 2025 I have now deleted my beloved world as I could not look at that greyed out version anymore. It was also taking up “ save space” once again so I dreaded the “can’t save no storage space error” popping up again and ruining another world. I wish wish you all luck with your worlds.
