Unable to upload / replace world on realm

Update on this issue:

5 August 2023 by @unknown -

Hi everyone, I've seen a couple comments asking for an update, so I wanted to make a post about where we're at and what happens next.

We've updated all Bedrock platforms to our new network stack which did make a big improvement in uploads, and most people are currently able to upload fine to their Realms. However, I know that's not much consolation if you're currently having problems, which you probably are if you've searched out this bug.

When you upload a world to a Realm, there are several things that happen, and if you read through the bug reports here, you'll see different players run into issues at different points.

  1. After you pick a world to upload, the game compresses it into an MCWorld file on your device. This can be problematic on some consoles and phones, and there are bugs we're trying to track down, but it's can be difficult if we can't reproduce the problem ourselves.

  2. Once the game has an MCWorld file of your world, it gets an upload location from Realms and sends the file over the internet to the Realms service. Currently, this process is pretty fragile, and if your internet gets interrupted or there are other issues with the connection between your device and the Realms service, this can fail. The new network stack focused on improving this, but it's still delicate, especially for long uploads of large worlds.

  3. After the MCWorld file is fully uploaded, Realms will unpack the file, check for errors, then copy it to the right storage space so your Realm can use it. This part usually works pretty well, but the game doesn't show a progress bar while this is happening, so many players get confused and cancel out of their upload, even though the process is still working! We have some work in progress to always show a progress bar every step of the process, including this last one.

So what's next? We're working on better progress bars and status during uploads so players don't get confused and cancel their uploads early. Farther ahead, we're building "Realms Storage V2" which will allow us to upload files in pieces, more like what happens when you're uploading a file through your web browser. Now that you can do some Realm management on Minecraft.net, we're also looking into allowing players to upload and download worlds directly on the web, which will help in some situations. For the problems players run into in the world compression step, it's trickier as the platforms can be pretty different and have different storage issues.

If you're running into problems currently, my apologies. The most helpful thing is to post info about which platform (e.g. iPhone) you're playing on, what size the world is, how full your device storage is, and what type of internet connection you're using.

Trying to upload a world to my realm. States upload was successful but does not upload any MB. I can wait but never any upload progress even when it says uploading. Can only press cancel button, as never finishes.

I am having the same issue I have left it for 20 mins and it is stuck on 0.00MB

I have now tried on Xbox one and windows 10 phone same issue on both

Same on Win 10 computer. Please fix, this is infuriating. I feel like I've wasted money.

Same issue on Bedrock Realms. Happened after update that gave coordinates. We were told to download world. Change setting to allow coordinates. then replace realm. upload sits at 0mb but the bar climbs. goes to initializing and spins.. left for 12 hours and didnt go anywhere. have tried many times on xbox, and pc.

I've been sitting here reading the different Minecraft Bedrock info but the green line hasn't budged at all and it's been sitting for a whole 4hrs now… Serinity now!.. It's a four day weekend and looks like I'm getting in zero days to play.

Seriously, Mojang please get with the program. I’m sure if this problem is happening on consoles right now whether it’s an Xbox or PlayStation, it’s most likely happening with bedrock edition on PC as well. I’m currently on PlayStation paid for your realms two days ago just for it not to work due to an upload issue that has apparently been known since 2017 and has not been fixed. Most of us have tried every troubleshoot option. You could possibly try on a console to no avail. As a matter of fact, ever since I purchased realms two days ago, my game is nonstop crashing out of nowhere anytime I try to join a realm as well

As a matter of fact, when y’all do fix this, what benefits will those people who paid for a membership they couldn’t use get? Just for the loss of time and money. The fact y’all haven’t fixed this bug that has been around since 2017 and the fact y’all have yet to at least tweak it to make it slightly better and easier to fix through troubleshooting instead of making lame excuses as a matter of fact, the last update you had on fixing this glitch was from 2023 and it’s not even fixed yet in 2025 like come on you are more worried about newer updates instead of fixing the problems that have been in the game for a while. At this rate, you’re just robbing your customers more worried about the $$$$ on your end. I hope y’all had a wonderful holiday yesterday at Mojang but now could you please fix your game?

Trying to upload an existing 305 MB world to a Realms subscription that I’m paying for should not be this hard. Its takes over 20-25 mins of throttled uploading to present me with a meaningless error message.

Can we please look into this issue? There are financial losses at risk here for you guys (Mojang/Microsoft).

Im having this same issue. My world is the only world on my game right now as I deleted the others trying to free up space to initially copy the world.

While trying to make a duplicate the world, it acts like it’s working but then gives me an error saying I don’t have enough space… “your system is out of storage space. You’ll need to delete some data before you can save anything”. Yet we have expanded storage on our PS5 and as previously stated this is my only world right now at 990mb ish. So there is PLENTY of space. (And does not in fact copy).

Then when I purchased the realm subscription, I tried to upload the game to that- and I’ve tried 10 times. It’ll work on uploading for two hours, then before it even gets halfway done it’ll say “an error occurred”. When I close that and open up my realm- there’s no world available so it truly did fail to upload. I’ve tried logging out and logging back in, restarting, I did all of the basic steps suggested on all the pages. All I want to do is prolong the life of my world and I can’t freaking get it to work. I saw somewhere that if you just let it sit on the error page, and wait quite awhile before clicking back home that sometimes it still loads for people. I let mine sit for like 6 hours the first time then an hour the second attempt- neither worked for me and like I said it takes 2 hours to not even be halfway done and then still gives me an error. I’m so freaking mad. I am on PS5. Using Xfinity internet with their fastest processing speeds and connected via the wired connection if any of that matters. Happy to give any other info that might help resolve this for me.
