Update on this issue:
5 August 2023 by @unknown -
Hi everyone, I've seen a couple comments asking for an update, so I wanted to make a post about where we're at and what happens next.
We've updated all Bedrock platforms to our new network stack which did make a big improvement in uploads, and most people are currently able to upload fine to their Realms. However, I know that's not much consolation if you're currently having problems, which you probably are if you've searched out this bug.
When you upload a world to a Realm, there are several things that happen, and if you read through the bug reports here, you'll see different players run into issues at different points.
After you pick a world to upload, the game compresses it into an MCWorld file on your device. This can be problematic on some consoles and phones, and there are bugs we're trying to track down, but it's can be difficult if we can't reproduce the problem ourselves.
Once the game has an MCWorld file of your world, it gets an upload location from Realms and sends the file over the internet to the Realms service. Currently, this process is pretty fragile, and if your internet gets interrupted or there are other issues with the connection between your device and the Realms service, this can fail. The new network stack focused on improving this, but it's still delicate, especially for long uploads of large worlds.
After the MCWorld file is fully uploaded, Realms will unpack the file, check for errors, then copy it to the right storage space so your Realm can use it. This part usually works pretty well, but the game doesn't show a progress bar while this is happening, so many players get confused and cancel out of their upload, even though the process is still working! We have some work in progress to always show a progress bar every step of the process, including this last one.
So what's next? We're working on better progress bars and status during uploads so players don't get confused and cancel their uploads early. Farther ahead, we're building "Realms Storage V2" which will allow us to upload files in pieces, more like what happens when you're uploading a file through your web browser. Now that you can do some Realm management on Minecraft.net, we're also looking into allowing players to upload and download worlds directly on the web, which will help in some situations. For the problems players run into in the world compression step, it's trickier as the platforms can be pretty different and have different storage issues.
If you're running into problems currently, my apologies. The most helpful thing is to post info about which platform (e.g. iPhone) you're playing on, what size the world is, how full your device storage is, and what type of internet connection you're using.
Trying to upload a world to my realm. States upload was successful but does not upload any MB. I can wait but never any upload progress even when it says uploading. Can only press cancel button, as never finishes.

I am having the same issue I have left it for 20 mins and it is stuck on 0.00MB

I have now tried on Xbox one and windows 10 phone same issue on both

Same on Win 10 computer. Please fix, this is infuriating. I feel like I've wasted money.

Same issue on Bedrock Realms. Happened after update that gave coordinates. We were told to download world. Change setting to allow coordinates. then replace realm. upload sits at 0mb but the bar climbs. goes to initializing and spins.. left for 12 hours and didnt go anywhere. have tried many times on xbox, and pc.
Sorry this is an ongoing issue. Have you tried renaming the copy of the world before uploading it?

I will check today and get back with you. This is Jokercollison btw Jay

I tried two things. I downloaded the world by pressing the download button above replace world button.. Renamed. And tried to upload. Didn't work. Then I went to previous saves. Picked one that saved 4 minutes ago. Downloaded it. Renamed. Pressed replace realm button. Did same thing.. It acts like it's working but says 0mb. Then when the initializing upload screen comes up. It never uploads.. Could it be something to do with where it uploads to?

Just made a new world. Opened up a new realm. Tried replacing realm world with this new world and still does the same thing.
@unknown - Could you please get in touch with Mojang Customer Support directly? In your form include your realm name and gamertag, and they should be able to look into the problem.

Guess who's joined the party with "Upload Failed (-1)" cool, I payed for a broken product I can't use. If realms is this bad don't allow people to buy it ffs.

We have a number of issues reported on Realms where uploads fails. I am consolidating all of them as dupe to this bug.

Endless problems for months who do we contact about not paying for the time we have not been able to use what we have paid for.

I am on Switch and I have had the same problem, it's completely unacceptable that this game does not receive weekly patches, there are more bugs than players at this point.

Same issue, the realm I pay for is now worthless and I can't find where to get a refund

Having the same issue unable to upload world's to realms you would figure this would take priority since we pay for the service this has been going on for almost a year for me

From information provided with MCPE-68519:
I can download a copy of the realm world, but I can not reupload it. It says "Level export finished successfully" in the top left, and "Failed an error occurred" in the middle of the screen at the same time after uploading the world. It did fail.
On the main screen it says my version is 1.14.30. When I view the backups of the realm it says they are version 1.14.32 if they are within the past 2 days, older than 2 days say 1.14.30. And I can not restore a backup that lists 1.14.32 as the version, but I can restore a backup that says 1.14.30 is the version.

Can anyone confirm whether this is currently happening when uploading from bedrock edition 1.14.60? Be sure to wait for plenty of time for the upload to finish and Do not Cancel it as there are reports that doing so can leave the Realm in an unusable state. There may not be any progress shown during the upload (there wasn't for me anyway) and it may take quite a bit longer than expected (for me it took about 1 hour to finish upload of a 47MB world).
If it still occurs, please include the following information:
1. What exact version number is shown for the world you are trying to upload? This is not necessarily the currently installed version of Minecraft. If the world came from a Realm download you can see the version number in the Realm backups list. For example, until 1.14.60 was released, some Realm backups show as 1.14.32, though the game was at 1.14.30.
2. What exact error message(s) do you get, if any?
3. What platform are you trying to upload from?
4. Are you using any add-on packs (texture, behavior, etc)? If so, does it work if you remove these? Either way, which add-on packs are in use?
5. How large is the world you are trying to upload?
6. Try opening the world locally and save it before uploading as that may resolve any version differences. Does that fix the issue for you?

I am having the same issue, and yes, I can confirm that this is still occurring as of 1.14.60. I have just tried to upload my world to Realms from the XBox One, and get the same problem as above. The messages state that the level export finished successfully, and then tries to initialize the world, but get the error message: " Failed. An error occurred."
My answers to your questions above:
1. I cannot find the version number for the save game, but my xbox load screen says v1.14.60, and I just saved the world this morning (19 April 2020).
2. The error message as detailed above.
3. Uploading from XBox One S
4. No add-ons
5. World says 575.7MB
6. Tried this. Still awaiting the outcome... [Edit]- Unsuccessful...

I just wanted to update this, in case anyone else is having the same issue. I have just successfully managed to upload my world to Realms. I suspect (although cannot prove) that my poor connection speed was the main cause of the problem, so I tried uploading at a time when I thought the local internet traffic might be quieter, starting at around 6am.
As with previous attempts, the level export finished successfully, and then the attempt to initialize the world went on for even longer than previous attempts, which made me hopeful that it might be successful this time. It eventually competed successfully about 30 minutes ago, having taken approximately one and a half hours to initialize a 575MB saved world.
I guess the moral is to pick the right time and be patient!

Hi,
I exactly have the same issue that Simon Preston, but on Win 10 Edition, from a 1.14.60 world to a 1.14.60 Realm. I even try to upload it on another Realm and same issue... After 1 hour (to upload a 500Mb world) : "Failed an error occured" (in french, because I am...).
I remember that it worked well on previous versions of the game, like this problem comes from 1.14.60 update for me......
If I had to count the wasted time with minecraft issues, I think I could claim at least 6 month of subscription... lol!

There was a server outage that affected Realms around 20/May to 22/May so please try uploading again. If it still does not work (or even if it does) please add a comment to REALMS-474 letting us know.

I had this problem up until last night. I went to the help discord and they talked me through deleting a file that was preventing the upload. It was a behavior/resource JSON file. After I deleted said file it uploaded instantly. (Don't guess on what files to delete have someone who knows what they are doing help you).

The world is still not uploading

The world is still not uploading

Same issue been trying for several hours to upload. only managed to get a skyblock pack to load on to it
1. using version 1.14.60
2. No error message apart from failed: An error occurred. file seams to export fine with the notifications on the top then the progress bar disappears then comes back at 100% then above error
3. Windows 10 Bedrock edition
4. No addons, textures or behaviours
5. world size is 34mb
6. Tried exporting the world and importing it. Renaming the file and exporting/importing it. Tried adding via the edit world/add to realms page and via the edit realms section. I can get a Skyblock level to upload and a new world (sometimes) but nothing else

this is happening to me, started happening yesterday. tried to upload the world to two different realms and both return with "An error occured".

same happened to me! 😞 I feel like I wasted money now please fix this asap, I have a community, and it was planned that I'll release the realm yesterday, but I couldn't and now I had to delay it. Please fix this Mojang! this is a serious issue/bug that needs to be fixed
+I'm on windows 10, but I also tried on my phone
+I've been trying for 2 days now
+I tried making the world size smaller, and I thought it was my network that was causing that..but neh.
+world size 300MB(didn't work), managed to delete some loaded chunks with a third party program so it shrunk to 36MB (still didn't work), I then even tried shrinking it more in size till it got to 24MB(still not working).

The same happens to me. A couple of months ago I took the free trial of Realm and it was going perfectly, I could upload and download the worlds without any problem.the free trial expired so I decided to remove the Realm. A couple of weeks ago I decided to buy my own Realm but I find that my 30mb world gets an error when trying to upload it to the Realm. When I used the free trial the Bedrock version was 1.14.30 and the world back then weighed 19mb. the world originally comes from Android but when I uploaded it to Realm I downloaded it on the Switch and I have a copy there, I kept playing the world from Android and that's the one I want to upload to my new Realm but I can't, I tried to upload the copy I have on the Switch (19mb) and it uploaded it without problems. I decided to restore the world because the world I want is the one I have on Android (30mb) I tried to upload it again but it failed again, Try closing the Realm and uploading it while it was closed and failed once again. Try to open the Realm but oh, "Cannot connect to the Realm, failed to open the Realm".

Getting same exact issue as well, been trying for 2 days now with no success. Recently renewed my Realms subscription after cancelling it for a while, now unable to access Realms, change or reset the world and can only download the world.
Also noticed I get a different error when trying to add a resource pack to the realm and when clicking the manage button under subscriptions returns an Xbox error

Same problem for me ! 👎

could we get some solutions or something lmao

I only found out that it works for really small worlds sometimes, like 2mb small. That might suggest the servers are stressed, so you could get lucky and hit a good spot with a small world, but will be more likely to fail with a bigger one. Maybe the problem has been getting worse because we are all tryharding. I've been trying for four days straight, no idea if I should stop.

Yes Unable to upload a saved world to a new realm - keeps saying "an error occured" and also "occured" should be spelled "Occurred"
Realm size 52.1 mb

any resolution coming ? i am waiting to upload my world to my realm !

Please Mojang! fix this issue 😞

Same problem here since at least one week.

**come on! start working on the bug, please!

I am having the exact same problem. It has been 4 days now of trying to replace my world on my realm, the world size is 582.5MB and even though it sounds like a lot this is not the problem as I have managed to replace the world prior to this "error". It would help actually if we were provided with more information on the error other than "Failed An error occurred". This could even just be an error code or a brief hint to what caused the error e.g. Upload speed. I feel as if I have wasted my money and am understanding of the increased work due to lockdown. Please get this fixed or even provide feedback ASAP.

@Harry Morton don't worry about the size, mine is 1,2 GB and it always worked. And about the wasted money: I'm sure they will fix the error soon, I mean it's not occasional, everyone's having it, they can't ignore that. So I hope they will extend all realms by the time the error occurred.

Hey Mojang any progress ?!?

I am appalled that this has been open since 2017 and nothing has been done about it. I am paying for 3 realms at the moment, I will cancel all of them at the end of the month if nothing has been done about this. Ridiculous.

Still waiting and it says this issue is not even assigned to anyone !! Can we get an update?

Things I've tried that haven't worked (could help i guess):
-Renamed world.
-Deleted all texture/behaviour packs in the folder.
-Tried uploading it to another realm.
-Pressed 'Play On Realm' instead of replace.
-Tried using different account.
Some information:
The world is 150MB, the save is the same version as the current game version, I get the error message "Failed, an error occured", I've opened the world locally before attempting to put it on a realm, no add-on packs are downloaded. If you need any other information, please ask.

Everyone please vote for the issue.

Having the same issue bought a new realm yesterday morning, tried to replace the world with a previously saved world and get export successful then upload Failed an error occured tried this god know how many times
Have changed server name
Copied World and tried uploading copy
Tried from another xbox
Called MS support who had me remove profile and do usual steps before pointing me to Mojang
Raised a ticket but based on what I have seen on the web don't expect this to be answered soon
The world is on 118MB

Having a paid service go down/not work like this under a P1 issue with no notification from staff is disgraceful. Mojang owes us just a notice saying they're looking into this. They haven't done anything to this issue. I would expect this from a free service not a paid one.

I am also having this issue. No troubleshooting methods seem to work.

please can you give us some new and useful information on what you doing to resolve? still showing as unassigned?
is this just being ignored?

I'm also facing the same issue. Facts:
Using Windows 10 Edition (Bedrock)
Using Realms to play with my kid (me on PC, him on Switch)
A week ago, switched the world on Realms for a new one (to play in creative with my kid)
Then we decided to put the Survival world back on Realms
This swap between two worlds went for 2 or 3 times with no issues
Starting last week, I tried to swap for the survival world in Realms but got an error on -> "An error occurred" and nothing else
The Survival world works fine locally
Already tried to remove textures packs and mods (which are only 2 - Natural Texture pack and Lower Shield) but doesn't solve it
Tried to create a new realm and upload the world there but same issue
Tried last point after changing the world name without success
World size 208MB
Version 1.14.60 for both worlds
Both worlds were initially created in 1.14.60 as well
Restoring the survival world backups on Realms fails as well except backups prior to 16th of May (this is intriguing)
Downloaded the 16th of May backup world and if I try to uploaded to the second realm it fails with "An error occurred"
Downloaded the 16th of May backup world and if I try to uploaded to the first realm it also fails with "An error occurred"
Conclusion: world upload to realms seem to be broken somehow.

same problem here... i cant believe these guys are getting away with this poor service. they also seem to be closing these tickets when the problem is obviously not resolved. guess its time to find a private server option

I am also facing the same issue.

Also seeing this issue on Nintendo Switch, and Xbox One.

También tengo ese problema y parece que lo ignoran desde principios de febrero

Nice you're all having the problem aswell, but please leave your vote above on the right. That's what makes us get recognized

I'm currently having this issue aswell. Trying to upload my world on to my realm as it has an older version. Also would like to add upon failing to upload, any attempt to log in to the realm to play on the old map fails first time, there after i'm able to log in.
The upload begins then goes to initalizing after a delay im presented with "Failed an error occured"
Im on Windows 10
Bedrock edition
No addons/textures/behaviours
World size about 200mb
Would also like to note if I download the world from settings it also fails, however if I download from a cloud backup that was created no more than 30 minutes ago it will download fine.

How are these tickets being actioned
I have checked using the filters on the left and this issue has the most votes out of the 271 realm issues and there alot of other tickets currently open which would be related to this issue
Is this site monitored by someone from Mojang cause alot of us are currently paying for a service we aren't receiving

Having the same issue.
I can upload small worlds I just created but I can't upload the world I want (134Mo).
Windows 10, bedrock edition 1.14.6005. No addons.
The world charge and then "echec - une erreur est survenue" (failed and error occured)
I suscribed a second realm, didn't work. So I made another email adress to get another microsoft account to get another Xbox account to suscribe a third realm that won't be relied to my first account. Didn't work ! So I tried to do so on my computer's girlfriend... I installed minecraft from the microsoft store with my first account (for not rebuying it) and then with my new account I tried to upload my world again on the third realm... Didn't work.......
So I paid three realm. For nothing.
To be more precise, this world I made is in experimental mode and I made some intensive modification on it (I exported my ex-world from PS4 with 400 structure blocks, because there is still no realm on PS4... and it took me days... for finaly not being able to upload it from my PC... Incredible).
So maybe it has something to do with world in experimental mode that had intense modification, but looking to previous comment it doesn't seem to be the case. And that this is kind of meaningless because my extremely modified world worked just fine out of the realm and worked just fine on the realm during several week, maybe mounths.
Also I'm not 100% sure but it may have created the world on the version 1.14.60.
If I undestand well I'm truly f****d. I exported my old ps4 world (like a 2 year world) on a PC world, that I played with for mounths but that appeare to be corrupted because suddenly it just totally ruins any Realm I want to upload the world on, no matter what Xbox account or what PC I use ... That's insane.
Also, it seems a little paranoid but I'm asking myself if that wouldn't be a kind of filthy virus, I had some issue with my computer at the exact same time I couldn't upload my world anymore. Why a virus would have any interest in ruining my happiness this tricky way ?... I'm not looking for a logical explanation right know I'm just looking for any explanation !

@Plastiboy I think this is more likely an issue with the realm as everyone here is if not having the same issue at the least very similar issues and there doesn't seem to be a specific reason. I know you are using experimental but I have tried with both survival basic and creative as a test and still the same, and world sizes seem to hugely vary based on the previous comments so doubt that's the issue, this seems to be a major issue with realms and its impacting me on xbox so doubt would be viral issue
Would be really good if someone monitoring these bug forums would provide even a sliver of an update or at the very least assign the bloody case to someone so we know its being looked into.
I have been looking through the other 200 odd issues on here and seeing alot of people outside the 66 here and this seems to be a recurring ticket people are opening and thats not including the ones they keep closing and flagging as duplicates.

can we please get some update on this? i cant even reset my realm so its really annoying

wow I cant believe this is actually a company. how do we request our money back? obviously they cant fix this problem. will be contacting microsoft about this. my children cant play the realms that i paid for

come on Mojang! can we get at least some updates? (eg: have you started working on this issue yet? )

Yeah I can't be bothered with waiting been 7 days unable to get onto my realm been playing the witcher in the mean time
So just contacted MS and requested a refund and cancellation of subscription I am not paying for something I can't use
If this isn't sorted by the 9th will be cancelling my other realm I rarely use
Think if MS see an increase in cancellations it will set alarm bells off to get this sorted and Mojangs Customer service is atrocious not a word from anyone on this

I just signed up for a Realm, but I'm going to cancel that subscription if I can't upload a ~90Mb world (which uses a resource pack). One thing I noticed was that after failing to upload, I'm unable to log on to the (unmodified) realm for a couple of minutes, and not only from the device which failed to upload the world. So, there must be traces of this failure on the server side.

I'm having the same issues as many others here.
Unable to use realms on Mobile or Windows 10. Even tried creating a new realm on Windows 10, but still the same issues of being able to upload an existing world.

I have already owned a realm with no problems in the past and have recently decided to Start another realm. Been Having the exact same problem everyone else is facing For close to a week. With shocking customer service/information from Microsoft and Minecraft I Foolishly decided maybe I’d start another one in case it’s just this realm that’s bust but I’m Now stuck with 2 useless realms. Appalled with the service I’m paying for

Hey all, the team is working to resolve this issue and will have a solution soon. Thanks for your patience! Keep your eyes on https://twitter.com/MojangStatus for updates.
-Matt.

The upload world to realms is works and i can join.

It just uploaded my world. Hope it is fixed for everyone. Thanx!

I can confirm that it works again for me🙂

Working for me too 👍

Working for us now too. Hopefully it stays working! Thanks!

Confirmed, now working for me, many thanks!

Working for me, thanks Mojang.

Thanks Guys for info
Re-signed up to realms yesterday and it is now working

I can also confirm my realm is working now, thanks for fixing this. Please can you pick up these issues quicker and keep everyone informed as its frustrating having to wait with no update.
Many thanks

Working for me too! yay
Thank you Mojang

People are saying it's working for them, but it's still not working for me.

If it is not working, please include what platform you are uploading from, the names of any resource pack(s) you are trying to include, and what error message(s) are you getting.

I'm trying to upload another map to my realm, & I got the same issue after uploading normally 2 days ago...
-Windows 10 Bedrock (1.14.0.60).
-85MB world (with & without mcpacks "2tries").

I tried it today and it worked for me. Thanks for fixing devs.

Signed up for the realms free trial yesterday. Was not able to upload a realm from my Xbox One. Bedrock v1.14.60. Only stock resource packs. Map was 60 MB creative map. Its a map we've had a for a long time. Error message says "Level export finished successfully" but has the "initializing upload" and the green cancel button. Same as 20200526_161402.jpg listed above.
Funny thing is, if I twiggle the sticks while the map is uploading, it will give me the "an error occurred" error message with a cancel button.

Looks like realms not working again. Can't upload a map. We will be cancelling ASAP. You guys are a total JOKE!

Again, I'm unable to upload a world to my realm as of this morning. Realms stopped working, so i tried to upload a backup
I'm Nintendo switch, Windows 10, I used both.
My realm buddies use Windows 10, consoles and a tablet on android.
We don't have any resource packs or addons installed
It fails after uploading all the mb

STARTED WORKING AGAIN ABOUT A WEEK AGO AND NOW HAS STOPPED WORKING. WHAT A JOKE.
DELETING MINECRAFT.
Absolute sick of being taken for a fool.

Yea, the feeling is shared by many, don't worry.

try downloading a backup.. if that works, try to replace realm with the backup.. it worked for me yesterday

Still getting the "failed an error occurred" message when trying to upload my World to my Realm. xbox one
Any chance of this being fixed or should I just cancel my Realm?

This issue has been open for how long and it’s still not resolved?

Tonight, I pulled my realm down so that I can delete the nether chunks in preparation for the update. The world is just over 600 MB, and it still showed the cancel button after it said the upload was successful. I assumed it was successful and tried to join, seeing that it had not uploaded properly. The second time, I let it stay on the Upload in progress/Cancel screen for a little over 5 minutes before it briefly showed a completed progress bar and the Let's Go button. When I hit the button, it took me to the realm settings and I was able to join the new upload on the realm.

Tried uploading a new world to my Realm and I got a error message I have uploaded a screenshot of the error message

I'm having this issue on the latest version (1.16.0)

I'm getting the same but I don't get any progress bar - it just instantly says 'An error occurred' every time. My report was deleted as a dupe but the differing error messages have me thinking it might be a slightly different issue

I'm seeing the same on Nintendo Switch. Trying to replace the world on my newly purchased realm immediately fails. It fails if I choose the "Play on Realm" option for the world too. The file size is 40.4MB and I have no added texture packs or anything like that. I'm on v1.16.0.

It happend to me to 1.14.30 as well but it somehow works again .and i am having the same problem after i reset the nether chuncks for 1.16.when the exporting is done it initialize for a while and BOOM “an error has occured”.pls fix this mojang studios.this is kinda important because i dont want my members to leave the realm for somewhere else.and good luck on fixing it.

This issue still happening. I can't upload my world to the Realm! And even worse, every time I try the world is getting restarted (latest version 1.16)

Can't upload my realm too, but not like you, when I try to export my world from Switch to Realms (size: circa 660mb), the game always ends with a crash with this pop-up with the "[!]" marking: "The software was closed because an error occurred.". Really annoying...
[media]
Also, someone should add 1.16.0(Bedrock) to affected versions.

Some of the difficulties may be due to the larger server loads due to the Nether Update. Overall the servers are likely to be the least busy between 0800 and 1200 UTC so you might try doing the upload then if possible.

Bedrock 1.16 - I don't know how many times I tried, for a couple of days, but it ended up working. I just alternated between reset world and replace, and it eventually went through.

Just got into Minecraft for my kids sake a week ago. Super disappointing we can't play together even though I just paid extra to make a Realm and allow us to do just that. Attempting on my switch, "An error occurred" Tried for a couple days, multiple times a day, different times.

Switch Bedrock edition, wanted to replace world on Realms but fails. It starts the level export then almost immediately "An error occurred" then at the top says that the level export failed. Was able to Reset world, have removed other members, renamed both the realm and the world I am trying to upload, but still same result/ error.

Switch Bedrock edition, I've been trying to replace world since before the update and I keep getting "An Error Occured" and "Level Export Failed" as soon as I press the Confirm button. Purchased a new Realm to try and combat the issue, but that won't let me upload to it either.

I play on switch and when i try to replace my realm it says an error ocurred

i’m having a similar issue for uploading behavior packs to realms

I’m having the same issue on switch bedrock edition. I tried on two different realms and both times it exported fine. However, it sits on initializing upload for 30 seconds without a status bar and then promts an error message saying “an error has occurred”.

having the same issues with not being able to download world, replace or reset realm.

Same issue here, with latest version of Minecraft on Switch. No matter which way i try to upload a local world to a Realm, it exports just fine but sits on "Initializing upload" for a little bit and errors out with "An error occured". This is only a small (~10 MB) world with no packs installed.

I just signed up for a Realms 30 day free trial and cannot upload any of my worlds to the realm from my daughter's iPad. I get a blank upload bar for about 5 minutes then a generic "an error has occurred" we have tried resetting the Realm and tried several saved worlds of various sizes. Sooooo, not having any fun on Realms yet. 😞 I see this issue has been open since June 1st. The only thing I did that was atypical was I subscribed to Realms using my Windows 10 app and I'm trying to upload a world from the iPad app.

On a Nintendo Switch and I just purchased the Realms Membership and I am getting the failure to upload a local world to the Realm. Why would you allow purchase of this feature if this bug is outstanding. 😞 I only found this bug after searching on the error "an error has occurred" and Realms and would have never signed up for Realms had I known. How do we get our mine coins back? I now have a 30 day membership that's pretty much useless for what I intended and the clock is ticking....... I see this bug has been open for almost a month.

It seems this is broken on most/all platforms and has been this way for a significant amount of time. I personally am seeing the issue on the latest iOS release. As we are all paying for this unusable feature, I am curious if someone from Mojang might weigh in on what is causing the error(s) and when a resolution is expected. All I have heard so far is that they are working on it; however, that does not mean we will see a fix in the near future. Would it be best to cancel the subscription until this is resolved?

Just chiming in that on 1.16.0 on the Switch, I cannot upload worlds to my Realms. Every time I try, I get the same "An error has occurred." that many other people have gotten. I hope this issue is fixed very soon, otherwise I expect some days to be compensated back to me, since I can't use the Realm I just bought in the way I need to!

I'm on Switch just did the 30 Day Realms trial super pumped to play with my GF and friends on Minecraft for the first time in a long time on our little server but only to also find I can't upload a world from my Switch and it just says "an error occurred" However PC uploads without a problem
V1.16, Switch & PC
I've tried the following with no fix
Tried another world
The world is only 15mb
No resource packs
Renaming the realms server
Renaming the world it'self
Restarting the game
Restarting the Switch
Twiddling the thumbsticks
Trying over and over again
I've tried the following with results of sorts
PC works and uploads worlds
What I will try
Getting a USB C to Ethernet adapter for the switch
Changing Wifi
Hoping to extend my trial on the missed days of play

Pretty frustrating that you’re selling Realms on Switch when we can’t use them properly. Had to get a refund.

The same issue persists now in v1.16.0 for iPhone and iPad. Can't replace the realm with any other world. Can't create a new world into an existing realm slot (I guess it's because it needs to replace the old world). I can't believe this issue has been here for months. I just started the Realms paid membership and I'm going to cancel it right now.

I'm having this issue on both Switch and Windows 10. Bought 2 Realms trying to get this to work. Now I have to cancel both.

World upload seems to fail completely on Switch. Sorry about that, we are currently investigating.

Today I got an Update to Minecraft I tried uploading the world it took much longer and gave some promising but at the end still gave me the same "An error has occurred"
HOWEVER, the world did actually upload to the server from my switch successfully and was not only downloadable at its full size on my PC and Switch but was on the realms server successfully
My error could have been pure chance!
Thanks Team

Downloaded the update this morning to my Switch and attempted to upload my world. Still received the “An error occurred” Error Message immediately. This message persists with small (0.1MB) and larger (271.4MB) worlds...even after resetting the Realm and attempting again. Reset Realm is playable, however.

Can confirm that I’m seeing the same after the update. Multiple errors during uploading, however the Realm is updated and replaced with the world I uploaded. So this is some progress.

Updated to 1.16.1 today on my Switch, but still got the "An error occurred" message immediately when uploading. I think it's not fixed at all.

Similar issue to the people above. Prior to the latest update, the export of the world would be somewhat successful. The world seed would upload, but nothing that was built/developed after starting the world would upload.
Since 1.16.1, the export immeasurably fails and nothing loads to the realm and I continue to receive an error every time I try to upload to my realm.
Also, this error is occurring on Minecraft for Switch.

Same issue for me. Trying to upload a world from my Nintendo Switch to the realm. I had this issue prior to today's update and it persists now. I have tried resetting the realm in many different ways, all to no avail. Every time I attempt to upload my world it gets past the "Exporting World" phase and fails on "Initializing Upload".
I did notice as others have reported that the upload manages to add the world seed and game settings to the realm, but none of my builds or changes to the landscape are carried over.

My post was marked as resolved and I was linked here: so I'm just gonna copy and paste said post to share here in case it provides any helpful info:
"When I try to upload my world (which is about 80 GB) The progress bar is instantly cut off by an error message in the middle of the screen that says:
'An error has occurred'.
Afterwards a message appears on the top of the screen with an achievement jingle. This time it says
'Export failed'
I recorded it, but the mp4 file was too big to attach to this post so I created an unlisted youtube clip which should be imbeded [here |https://youtu.be/5VXxegvW7Dc]
Edit: It is currently July 12th and I have taken the advice of someone else on this thread, backing up my save data through Switch cloud saving, then archiving and reinstalling Minecraft, now I am able actually get the progress bar to work, the crawl text says "level exported successfully" but instead of "Let's Go!" It returns to the "initializing upload" screen and freezes with the only option being to hit "cancel"

This has been an issue on my account for a couple of months now with no progress. Same as everyone above. I am playing on the switch and get the an error occured right away.

I've found that you can get it to work if you close the realm first, then reset the realm, do not try to replace the world with another world until it resets.yes it took me about 3 times but if you keep persisting it will eventually work. I've replaced my world about 5 times now due to griefers.

Have to say, I'm pretty annoyed about this issue. Mine is occurring on the latest update on Switch. You can't replace a realm or reset it with the settings you want. No particular resolution appears to be in sight, and it's not clear how you claim a refund given that the service and game no longer work. I don't like it when paying customers are used as beta testers for updates that stop the game working.

Following the steps from Michael's comment I am no longer able to either re-open my realm or reset my world in addition to the main issue; being unable to replace my world. Sadly, realms is complete broken for me now. I have created REALMS-4710 to track those issues as well.

Still not working, using Nintendo on 1.16.1 today cannot upload a Realms Plus world to a realm. I have even created a new realms plus subscription and I get the same "An error occurred" after trying to create from a template.
If I create a world locally it works fine, but replacing a realm with that local working copy also generates the same error message "An Error Occurred" . Access such realms from another account just has user drop into a vanilla world.
SORT THIS OUT MOJANG!!

Every time I try to upload a world, an error always occurs after the “initializing upload“ stage. When I join the realm, the seed is there but none of my structures I’ve built, or any of my items I’ve obtained. My realms plus subscription gets shorter by the day and it’s very frustrating because my money is essentially being stolen. The issue has been existing for a while, and nothing has been done about it. Mojang if your reading this please know that the bedrock community is very frustrated. Please fix this.

This issue has been allowed to persist too long. June 1st is the last comment from Mojang and it says will be fixed “soon?” Mojang, please. We are talking about paying customers having zero access to the brand new update you put so much work into. I can’t update my world to a 1.16 world of my choice? What am I paying for?

This is awful service. I started using Realms to make it easier to play online with friends and family and now it’s unusable. Sort it out, Mojang! Or I’m sure you’ll start to lose paying customers to games which work!

Just started happening for me with the 1.16 update. It used to work fine. It affects iOS, Android, and Windows 10 clients at least. I haven’t tried on XBOX.

This just started happening to me on Xbox, was trying to reupload a save, it worked the first time but after I tried to do it again it started giving me “An Error has occurred” like it’s ridiculous, luckily I have the save file but now my realms doesn’t even work, I can’t join it, i can’t close it like as if it just died.

this issue still hasn't been fixed, and it has been over a month. The original post was from 2017. Will this ever be resolved? I only bought realms because I thought I could upload an old world. It feels like mojang is just scamming people.

It finally worked after about 20 tries of resetting and then trying to upload the world. Most of the time it would upload just the seed. I’m just glad to see it working.

My only suggestion as others have said is to keep trying to upload the world, However every time it errors go onto the realm and try and download the world onto your console or device and hopefully eventually despite it still gave you "An error has occurred" you will actually download the full world at the correct size, 9/10 times it will only upload the seed number but I think sometimes it will actually upload the whole world on very rare occasions.
With the 16.1 updates, I thought it was fixed because mine worked the first time despite still getting the "An error has occurred" but it seems everyone still has issues. Now my World is finally on the realm I will continue to use my PC version of Bedrock for any further realm changes as a don't trust any other version.
So Disappointed at Mojang to see this is still a persistent issue on and off for what seems like months? Voices on here feel really unheard.
People are losing a lot of fun with friends and time on a paid service.
I'm loving this Realms service right now as it's working for me If I get any of the rollback issues people are mentioning I'm out and I'm not coming back, I'm lucky as I am now being able to have actually uploaded my world which was nearly impossible and also could have essentially ruined the service entirely for me

Started getting this error yesterday. It’s been a while since I had a realm because I had so many issues before. I tried multiple times to upload a world. World is only 27mb and is vanilla. Made a copy of it to try and see if that would work and it didn’t. Tried replacing the realm with a brand new world at .7 mb and it still failed. Tried multiple different Nintendo switches. Then I went over to my pc. Worked the first time no issue. Problem is I can’t upload my world to my pc because the only way to transfer is via realms. Which isn’t working. Wasted $40 setting up two different realms. I thought maybe because my first one was old and hadn’t been used in a while that maybe that was the reason. Spent another $20 to set up a second one. Nope same issue. Fix this... there’s so many issues that make this game difficult to play.

Keep your eyes on https://twitter.com/MojangStatus for updates.
@MattGartzke It's been over a month since the initial tweet about this issue with no updates. Even something like "this is a particularly hard issue and we're still working on it" would be much better than radio silence.

Any update to this issue yet? Would love some transparency here.

Anything further here? The realms service is useless unless you can upload worlds to the realm. Please fix ASAP. As others have stated it does not matter what world you try to upload (small, large or using "Play on Realm" or switch worlds on the realm) they all fail with the "an error has occurred" which presents almost immediately.

I am encouraging everyone to go ahead and ask for refunds for your Realms Supscription. Speaking with your wallet is the only way to be heard these days.
Mojang's automated email tells you that console refunds must be handled by the platform you made a purchase on. I encourage you to go ahead and file a report with Mojang so that they know why people are requesting refunds, then file a report with your respective console to get your money back.

It seems to not let me upload my world to the realm correctly. It only uploads a blank world using the same seed. It only seems to upload the seed and the time of day and everything else fails to get across so a new world is created with the seed and ut sets to the time of day of the world i try upload. Nut i have none of my stuff its like its just a new world entirley which isnt what I payed for. If this doesn't get fixed soon I want my money back and im never getting realms ever again.

Yes I am trying to be patient but I paid to have this for 30 days and im worried it will never get fixed in that time and ill of just wasted my money. Espically hearing that people been waiting 2 weeks... if it takes more than a week from when I paid (8th July) I feel like I should get those days back but .. yea I think people who thinking about buying realms should be informed about this bug till its fixed.

My issue is almost identical to the one Christian Green is expressing. My Switch world files never upload, they always Error out with "An Error Occurred". The files look like they have uploaded in the backups, and if I play the realm, or update from a backup and play the realm, it appears to work, but the world is only the seed, with none of the actual things I've built in the world exist anymore.
I would love to be able to try on a different platform, such as Win10. However, the world I want to upload only exists on our Switch. We have Minecraft on the PC as well (we were hoping to start playing on the PC, hence getting Realms to get our worlds off the Switch). Can you detail out a feasible work around to get a World off my Switch and onto a PC so I can try uploading it to Realms there? Again, it's not an issue with accessing Realms in general, we can go to other people's Realms on switch or PC, it's an issue of getting worlds off the Switch and onto a Realm.
Very similar to this person's issue as well:
Switch and it just says "an error occurred" However PC uploads without a problem
V1.16, Switch
I've tried the following with no fix
Tried another world
The world is only 75mb
No resource packs
Renaming the realms server
Renaming the world itself
Restarting the game
Restarting the Switch
Twiddling the thumbsticks
Trying over and over again

I also have the problem with uploading or replacing the realm, getting the error on initialising. In my case, I found that the level.dat had gotten corrupt on the realm and was able to fix it on win10.
I wasn't able to upload on win10, so i transfered to android and tried uploading there. the upload error persisted for a few days. i tried resetting the world which worked but did not allow an upload.
I managed to find a workaround that worked for me:
looking through the realm backups, I noticed that there was a backup entry for pretty much every failed upload. I was able to upload the world and, after receiving the error, reload the failed upload from the backup.
Not sure if my error is the same tracked on this ticket, and not sure if my workaround will work for anyone else.
--FG

@francois gurin
I tried your fix and noticed that backups were created but they were not of the world that I was attempting to upload, just the same realm world.

Has anyone figured out where to enter 0073735963?

In my case, I want to renew realm world with same seed value. (1.1MB)
OK: Replace world on Windows 10.
FAIL: Replace world on Switch.

hey guys! i found a solution that helped me:
go to software information on the switch and backup your save data to the cloud, after it is backed up archive the software. once that’s done re-download minecraft. once it’s redownloaded your worlds should still be there if you backed up the data. i was able to replace the world once i played in it for a couple minutes. it did still say error occurred when i upload the world, but it still replaced it. i had to do it multiple times because it would just upload the world seed with no progress, but eventually it worked. hope this helps!

I can confirm that if you can log into your Ninentendo account on Winodws 10 - using the xbox app and create/upload realms from Win10 to realms, the operations all complete successfully. But errors still persist when i try it on Nintendo.
Not everybody has Win10 - so this is s rubbish work around
Cmon Mojang FIX THIS!

@Ian Sharma-Cook, I'm trying to upload My switch World to Realms and download it onto Windows 10, can you explain the whole logging into a Nintendo account from Windows 10 to access Switch worlds?

Switch, v1.16.1, default texture pack.
"Level export started..." Then "An error occurred" and "Level export failed".
We uploaded an existing world once, and it failed every time thereafter. Do not have Windows 10 version so cannot use that workaround.

Mine broke again today (after getting fixed a while back) and saying "An error occured".
I'm using windows 10.

Not sure if this is related to the cause, but I've noticed that the time displayed in my Nintendo Switch version Minecraft is not synced.
It's the time displayed in the realm backup section, which shows the supposed time when the backup was made.
When I check in my Windows 10 version, the time is displayed correctly there and I have no problem replacing my realm world there. I've checked the time on my Switch system and the time there is correct so there's no problem with the Switch itself. I tried one of the solution provided above (Archiving and redownload) and it fixed the exporting error, but now I'm having initializing upload error.
So I'm wondering if anyone else can check to see if the displayed backup time is stated correctly? It might be the cause. Like if the time on your computer is incorrect, it will cause certain websites to not load correctly because of mismatched information. Hopefully this will be useful information for the developers to work on the fix.

I am Japanese.I am not good at English.
Please tell me in detail how to move the switch world to windows10.
Where do I log in to my Nintendo account from windows10?
From Minecraft? Or from Xbox?
Someone kind! If possible, please tell me with detailed instructions, photos and videos.
I'm really in trouble with this bug. help me.
I hope this bug is fixed as soon as possible.

I am getting this error on Switch, iOS and Windows 10. Using Win10 is not a workaround.
Especially because the whole reason I got the realm was to upload my world from my Switch to play on Windows with a dedicated server...

I am still experiencing this issue. I downloaded this version of our seed back when we couldn't access Realms due to outage. Now that the outage appears to be resolved, I am trying to upload the most recent version. I attempt to upload the realm every day and encounter the same error. The save file is located on an Android smartphone and the other realm players use Nintendo Switch.

Have you found the issue and trying to resolve?
Or still not sure what is causing the problem?

Hey guys, here it is a solution, at least worked for me:
Go to edit your world that you want to put in realms. Then "play realm" in the purple(pink) button. The minecraft will export and upload. Wait in the upload screen util the message ERROR shows up. Click OK and just go to the realm and the world is in!

Just tried and it didn’t work for me 😞

In response to Gabriela, this is a fluke and only uploads the world seed. Any progress made in the world will not be uploaded.

My realm only uploads the world seed but with no progress. it’s just the seed. and when upload it says export successful on the top bar that shows up, but it gets the “error uploading” message when it’s initializing. is this a bug?

Grant.
Yes, that is a, the, very bug most of us are talking about in this thread. What platform are you using (Switch, Win10, Xbox?) Fill out as much info as you can.

This bug is very sad. Every time they do a new update, this thing happens
For me, was not just the seed, the whole progress was there. I did that in the mobile version. Maybe it is different or this huge bug is doing a lot of variations to the problem.

I can confirm that this issue exists on the Nintendo Switch Firmware 10.1.0 with Minecraft 1.16.1 on a fresh realm Subscription purchased (but not used) via Bedrock on Windows 10.
The subscription shows up correctly on the Switch. It tries to start the upload of the pre-existing world (4.5MB in size, started in version 1.16.1 on the Switch) and simply gives the pop up dialogue “an error occurred” and then bails out.
The marketplace seems messed up though other online features appear to be accessible, so the network connection to whatever those servers are appears to work.
That being said, the Marketplace on the Switch right now shows coding object names for categories, so there’s clearly some issues going on there too.
Edit: Some updates:
1. Worlds can be uploaded successfully to a realm and edited from the Windows 10 Bedrock Edition. This doesn’t solve anything as my worlds are on the Switch.
2. Worlds that are uploaded with the windows 10 Bedrock edition can be downloaded successfully (locally) to the Nintendo switch. That same world cannot be re-uploaded from the Nintendo Switch
3. World size doesn’t matter. The world size being replaced doesn’t seem to matter. I’ve tried with Empty, small and large worlds upload from the switch (smaller and larger than the existing realm world) with no success.
4. I’ve tried changing DNS servers with no success.

I was having this issue too but suddenly the overday it let my upload my world properly but it still said an error had occured but now everything working fine. But it seems it like a small chance for it to work as other people and my friend are still experincing the issue. I hope this gets fixed sooner ther than latter.

I am also experiencing this bug the same as the user below:
I'm trying to export a world from the Switch to PC. I can load the world on my PC version but there is no progress, it just loads the seed.
@unknown added a comment - Yesterday
My realm only uploads the world seed but with no progress. it’s just the seed. and when upload it says export successful on the top bar that shows up, but it gets the “error uploading” message when it’s initializing. is this a bug?

I'm having the same issue: can't upload my game using the Nintendo Switch version. I also have the Windows 10 edition and there it works perfectly, but what I wanted was to transfer my world from the Switch to my PC, and the work around can't do this.
I tried many times but not even the seed of the world was uploaded. I request the upload, it goes to the Initializing Upload screen and 1-2 seconds later it show the Error pop-up "An error ocurred". Tried uploading in both the Realm pen screen and my world pen screen, tried entering my world before uploading, tried resetting the Realm (which works in the Switch version) and then uploading, tried another wi-fi connection, tried in different times of the day. All to no avail.

I'm gonna add a tidbit of info that may or may not be helpful. As I already posted, I had this issue, but as of 2 days ago, I was able to upload my world on windows 10, before I could not. The only thing that changed, was a recent update to my wifi driver. Could be totally unrelated, as I dare not test it further atm, being it actually worked. Could be something Mojang did, the driver, or just a fluke.

Am having this problem on Nintendo Switch, Switch Lite and Samsung S6 Lite (android). I have tried all the things mentioned in the post a couple up from me, resetting realm etc
I haven't got the Windows 10 version - is there no other workaround for this? It seems poor to expect people to pay for a service that is not working for them.

Is somebody doing something to solve this bug? My friends and I have lost a whole realm suscription, at least I expect a refund or a suscription of the same type for free when this solves (if this happends someday).
I don't have the realm, it ended the suscription time, so I can't make any more tests to see if it works. And I am not paying another one to experiment the same issue and waste more money.

I have a similar issue. When I try to replace a realm with a world on my Switch, the replacement fails with a nondescript error message. Also, when I try to play a pre-existing world on realms by creating a new realm, it loads a completely different world with no progress, not even the same seed. I now have three useless realms because of this issue.

Same issue on the switch here. Have 2 useless realm subscriptions and both are about to expire. Neither have functioned since I subscribed.

Same problem here! I mentioned this on mojangs support Twitter account: "10 days since I paid a Nintendo subscription, a 10 players minecraft server, 2 minecraft PE copies for my friends so they can play with me on my world....and I still can't replace my world!!! I just gave my money away! Support says just to keep trying. .."
17 days now, I spent money on 4 products just to find this issue. I also would like my money back plus free realms access when this is solved. Also would be nice that mojang says something about this issue, apparently people is waiting for this fix since a lot of days or months.

I don’t have a computer, and I’m not exactly a rich kid, so PLEASE FIX THIS OR GIVE. E A REFUND!!!!!! All of your realms are buggy and always have things wrong with them. Prob just gonna cancel my subscription anyways. But I’ve gone a full month giving you money for literally nothing. Sad.

Some good news, and some bad news.
Good....I was able contact Microsoft (1 800 642-7676) and cancel my subscription and receive a refund.
Bad.....They would only refund my last payment installment and this was "an exception." They recommended contacting Mojang to resolve my issues and that if I decide to purchase Realms again, "the developer" would be the only one that could address in-game purchases and issues.
Recommendation: Cancel you Realm subscription, try to get a refund (at least for one month; I had three months I was paying for Realms that was not functioning properly for the purpose of which I subscribed - uploading worlds so that I can play cross-platform), and only re-subscribe once there is a confirmed fix.
Questions for Mojang: What steps are you willing to take to protect your customers from incurring unnecessary expenses for a service that is broken? If Microsoft is only issuing refunds "by exception," how do you plan to compensate those of us who continued paying despite dealing with an issue we expected to be resolved sooner? Is there a better platform for customers to address non-technical/development issue concerns such as this?
Closing Comment: I agree that this is a space customers/users should not use to vent dissatisfaction, but instead to document issues and contribute productively. However, there seems to be a disconnect between you and Big Microsoft. We love your product and want to support its development, but you can't expect us to continue paying for a broken service/product....especially as many are feeling the financial impact of the current pandemic. I wish I could continue contributing to the troubleshooting effort, but I can no longer afford it and look forward to when this issue is resolved so that I can continue enjoying your game on multiple platforms and with friends.

Same problem here 😞 Wasted so much money on extra Realms trying to solve the issue.

Same problem for me on Nintendo Switch. Impossible to replace the map in my realm (1 month free trial).
Always the same error after a few seconds : an error occured.
I tried 50 times without success.
I hope an issue will be found as soon as possible. I need to transfer a world in Minecraft Win 10...

Need to transfer my world from switch to windows 10, but looks like it won't happen anytime soon, same error everytime i try to upload.
This upload problem started when 1.16 was released, so it's been a month already & they've done absolutely nothing to fix this, how difficult can it really be?
Releasing these kinds of untested & game breaking updates is what microsoft has done with windows ever since vista came out, but i guess this it what we get now that microsoft owns minecraft.
Can't even access the world files on consoles, like on pc & phones, so realms is the only option here.
Maybe i should go back to java edition & give up on bedrock altogether.

I'm also experiencing this issue. I cannot upload a new world to my Realms server from either my Switch or my iPad. I get the same error everyone else here is reporting.
I have been following this issue for weeks now and there has been no resolution and the suggested workarounds are not working. Can we please have an update from the developers as to the status of this issue and a possible ETA as to the solution?
@Mega_Spud

The workaround is not a workaround. If you can't use realms, you won't be able to upload your world to other devices. I can't believe this deadly bug has been left for two months.

Issue: Unable to upload offline game to realm.
Version: Minecraft 1.16.1 for Nintendo Switch
Setup Required to Reproduce:
Have Nintendo Switch and Minecraft with 640 minecoins
Steps Required to Reproduce:
Create realm
Go to any save file
Click "Play on Realm"
Level export will be successful
Error An error occurred comes up
Current result: Unable to upload realm
Expected Result: Should be able to upload realms.
Notes:
Attempted to replace realm instead of "Play on Realm"
Power cycled device fully
Created a second realm to confirm it was no realm specific
Tested network connection
Changed DNS to 1.1.1.1 to rule out dns issue
Made new save file under 1MB that still would not upload
No additional resource pack other than default are added
Checked reddit and google
No work around confirmed
Some people report the issue is only intermittent but I have consistently gotten failure to upload
My location is NSW, Australia in case this is relevant
NAT type is B
Closed Realms
Found large amount of references to REALMS-474
Made account on Mojang support
Filled in a template
Voted for issue

I want a refund or compensation since this hasn't been fixed yet. There is no way to put a world from your Nintendo Switch on to any other device with out using custom firmware. Saying use a different device is like telling someone to use a different door when there's only one door to use.

I'm getting this error as well. Though I do notice that the seed seems to have transferred to my realm but nothing that has changed in the world is there. Pretty frustrating as my wife and I decided to buy a realm specifically to upload a world and play with friends.

Apologies for the frustrations with not being able to get your worlds off your Switch consoles! I have a fix for world upload to Realms from Switch coming in 1.16.2, though you will still see the "An error has occured" dialog despite the successful upload. If this bug has made your Realm completely unusable until 1.16.2, please contact Mojang Support, and they will help you with a refund or compensation.

Could you give an ETA when 1.16.2 will be released?

There is no mention of when 1.16.2 will be released.

No release date to share for 1.16.2, but we're working on it

Would love to get a refund on my current realms purchase

Hi all,
Would it be 1.16.2 or 1.16.20? I would have thought Nintendo Switch would go from 1.16.1 to 1.16.10 or higher. Thank you for your time.
Regards,

Hello, I am having the same issue in IOS 13.5 (v 1.16.10) I had a realm but it said it was expired, and it would not allow me to renew with my current subscription (it kept saying your purchase succeeded but we couldn’t create your realm right now) After contacting Mojang Support, I ended up just buying another new 10 player realm, and now I am getting the error where it goes through export in progress, initializing upload, and then says Error - An error occurred. After this, when trying to join the realm, it stays on the Joining realm screen for about 4 mins, then shows an error and won’t connect.

Similar experience. Export in progress, initialize upload, an error occured. Click OK. Realm content has not changed.
Proximity to Wifi seems to matter but hard to say for sure. This morning it failed many times but finally worked in the end. iphone 11 plus, latest version of minecraft, ultra fast broadband speed https://www.speedtest.net/result/9825076604
This is a systemic bug with intermittent symptoms.
Also occurred is spelt with two r's. 😛

I was experiencing this same issue on 7/26 right after I purchased my realm (using Nintendo Switch), but it suddenly worked yesterday on 7/27. Here's the workflow:
Purchase realm
Click replace world (or go to create world -> use my realm)
Export of existing world is successful
Stuck on "initializing upload" before the error message.
Result varied. One time I ended up with a 0.0 MB world on the realm, which would result in an error message anytime anyone tried to join the realm. The furthest I had gotten was to have my world's seed successfully uploaded to the realm with none of my progress.
I was really frustrated by this, but last night I decided to try to replace the existing world again. On the first try, everything up to step 4 occurred. I then loaded up the realm to check it out and found that the world was successfully uploaded from my Nintendo switch. This seems very similar to CornerHard's 1.16.2 fix workflow, but of course 1.16.2 is not even announced yet.
I didn't really do anything special to get it working. My switch was docked and using WiFi. If you're experiencing this issue I will recommend that you keep trying each day and always log onto the realm even if you get an error while uploading because it may have actually been successful.

Has anyone figured out a work around? I am unable to replace the world on both android and PC. Its currently making realms unplayable seeing as everyone wants to play with an updated nether. This can't be good for business as I can see lots of people canceling realms subscriptions.

So 1.16.2 is out and still getting error when trying to apply add ons. On win 10 as well as iOS. These add ons are good and have been being used on realm for 6 months. But now we cannot update. PLEASE FIX!!!
One more thing, I cannot even exit the Realm info view without exiting the entire program! :-|

as expected it doesn’t work on iOS. Initializing Upload is a bit faster but the error still pops up and the world doesn’t upload.

Just subscribed to a brand new realm to try this out with the update, and we’re still getting an error. Has anyone had luck with this? We’re beyond frustrated. This is ridiculous. (We use Nintendo Switch)

Wanted to add too, when we enter the realm now to even check if it worked it locks up our Nintendo Switch and we have to hold the power button to get it to restart. It never did that before. Huge pain.

For those testing this on Switch in 1.16.20 please note that, according to the comments from @unknown (emphasis mine):
I have a fix for world upload to Realms from Switch coming in 1.16.2, though you will still see the "An error has occured" dialog despite the successful upload.
So if that comment remains true on release its expected that an error still pops up, but the upload should complete successfully (and your map should , I assume, be available).
Also if testing please make sure that your device has received the update. You can check on the bottom corner of the main menu screen where it should show 1.16.20.
I just gave this a test myself and the interim fix seems to be working as described, I got an error but on entering the world it had been replaced.
Please only comment if you have new or additional information to help limit the notifications sent to players "watching" this report and to keep information like this and CornerHards comments easy to find. To discuss bugs and the tracker please head over to the Mojira Discord Server.

IconicEcho - Can confirm the world still does not upload even after the error. Same issue as before. It’s worse now though because when we do enter the realm to check, it crashes the game.

Tested on my Switch and it didn't work. I knew it would still have the Error pop-up, so I entered the realm and it was just an old world that was already saved there, not the one I desire to upload. The upload process remains the same, try to replace world, go to the Initializing Upload screen and shortly after the Error pop-up. I even tried to stay in the pop-up screen for some time after it show up, but nothing different and the world was not uploaded.
Don't know if this interfere in anything, but my Nintendo Online subscription ended some days ago while I waited for this fix, so I can't enter the realm on the Switch console itself, but it still allows the upload (well, it looks that it allows at least, since I do all the replace world process like normal). So I am using my Windows 10 version to enter the Realm and test it.
I can reset my realm from the Switch now, couldn't do that before the 1.16.2 update, so it's something.
Would add that, like Amanda Haines said, if I go to the console home and try to close the game, it freezes my system and the only way around is to do a hard reset, holding the power button for some time.

I just tested the bug on my switch. The error comes up and but the world does not get replaced. And then when I try to leave the world I have to restart my entire switch. I was told there was gonna be a fix but it doesn't work.

I've got the update. Still seeing the same issue as before. I'm also seeing the same crash requiring a hard reset. Absolutely mindboggling.
This is a paid service and the issue has been happening for months! How can you in good conscience still sell the service on Nintendo's platform?
(@ODDSOCIETY – did they delete your most recent post?)

Yeah, I don't even want to test it on the switch if it's going to lock up the system, brick the system, or cause system wide bugs. Advice that this should be tested by us is kind of insulting.
I'll just keep waiting and see if anyone starts to get it to work.

Error has still not been fixed!

So I have a potential workaround.
Try archiving the Minecraft software on your Nintendo Switch device. Download the software again then re-attempt to play your world on realms. Has worked for me, with the world being available to play on both Switch and Windows 10.

I've also had the above issues, but like IonicEcko my world successfully uploaded. I have 2 realms. Before 1.16.20, the first realm would finish the level export and then sit on the "Initializing Upload" part for a while before giving an error. The second realm would give the error the first realm gave, but almost immediately. On 1.16.20 the second realm now does what the first realm did before the fix and still fails. The first realm now stays on the "Initializing Upload" part even longer than before, then gives the same error, but the world is there when I get on the realm. If you have a realm that has a similar behavior to my first realm then try uploading your world now, it more than likely will work.

Just upgraded to 1.16.2. I am able to upload worlds now. Even through the system still shows an error dialog, the world does seem to get replaced. The new problem is that upon quitting the game, the entire Switch system freezes for anywhere from 5-15 minutes. It requires a hardboot to bypass this wait. The Switch needs an emergency patch to fix the freezing problem.

I just did what @frailsnakeq said and it worked. Its a bit of hassle but works. Still has the freezing problem though. (Archive game, reinstall, then it should work.)

I believe they did delete my post but I didn’t receive a notification.

Just adding that @frailsnakeq workaround worked here. Archived game, clicked on the game icon on the home menu to redownload it, did the replace world process and this time it sucessfully uploaded it (showing the Error screen at the end). Entered the realm on the W10 version and downloaded the world correctly.

Unfortunately, it looks like 1.16.20 has some new strange issues which we're currently working on. My personal Switch had the same issue with instant failure trying to upload to my Realm, and I had to archive and re-download Minecraft to get Realm uploads working. Note that you'll still get the error, but if you join the Realm, you'll see your world.

And to top it off Mojang is still taking money for this and not even compensating in any way because "this is a known issue" months now and the new fix is going to break my switch??? And I'm still paying because I need my world to work again. As soon as this doesn't destroy my switch I will never play it on the switch again. At the very least I can still get the file on my phone. If Mojang one day stops supporting the switch I and this happens again I can never save my world.

James Allen
I can't find my yesterday's post anywhere too :/. Also seems it was deleted or something. Weird.

Like a lot of users, I was having issues with having my Switch freeze and having to reboot, but I also tried the archive method, and when I tried to upload my world, it got past the exporting screen, and had the error a minute or so into initializing, and when I checked the realm, it was the correct world. However, every time I go to the home screen and try to close Minecraft, my Switch freezes and I have to do reboot it.
I'd also like to add that when I try to download the world from my realm on Android, that the error message pops up, and it doesn't download it, but I'm still able to go into the realm itself.

Still cannot download worlds that are over 476.7MB in size on mobile. on 1.16.2 hotfix. It does no good to fix the uploading/replacing if you haven't fixed the ability to DOWNLOAD a realm world.

Yes, I'm experiencing these problems:
-Switch freezes when trying to adjust screen brightness, or going to console configuration.
-After pressing the Save and quit button it takes like 5-10 minutes exiting the realm.
-Switch takes something like 5-10 minutes to close the minecraft game from the switch menu screen.

I opened a new Realm account for testing and it allows me to create new worlds but when I apply an add on, only the resource pack is loaded, no behaviors.
Then after restarting the app it shows that several add on packs are applied to the world that are on my other realm and had never been applied to this new one. But even though they are listed, they don’t actually work.
And what is more, if I try to leave the realm settings screen without making changes, it goes to the “waiting to upload’ screen and never moves pass it.
I am on iOS and Win 10. Both have the same issues

I finally got it to start uploading but after it says “success” I get an error and the world dosent load. It lets me load up smaller woulds... but my 55 mb world dosent ever replace the realm...

Hi,
my son still can't upload his world into the realm after updating the version to .20.
We don't have the eshop-Version, but we have the card to insert into the switch. How should we reinstall the program?
Will there ever be a solution? I don't understand why it doesn't work anymore. It already did without problems!
Please help, thank you!

Having the same issue on iOS (latest update). However it seems that sometimes the world does in fact load, despite the error message. Will update if I see a useful pattern.

Been trying to replace the world with all method provided by the internet and yet it's not working.
I recommend to have other way to manage realms, maybe a dashboard on Xbox or Website to upload and replace the world. This would be really helpful alternative.

I am experiencing the same issue for large world files on my android. Continually saying "there was an error" or just getting stuck on "initializing upload" screen after it already said upload complete.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling minecraft on my android. No avail. I am able to play the worlds offline. There are no mods involved. I'm worried my world may be gone from the realm forever.

Been trying to archive and restore into the switch, but don't work, I got the same message "there was an error"

I successfully restored a Switch realm world by replacing with a duplicate copy that I had previously downloaded locally for offline play on the Switch. I followed the August 11th recommendation by CornerHard. I deleted the Minecraft program software completely from my Switch and download a fresh program which enabled a realm world replacement. I did get an error message even though the process was successful.

I play minecraft on Switch and iOS. Since the release of 1.16 (accurately a few days before the release), I always get the message "an error has occurred" on both devices. It seems that the upload is completed well as far as I played on the realm though the error message appears.
Can I play the world on the realm well, or shouldn't play it?

Playing on the switch has been a pain, I'm having a lot of freezes while playing and using the chat, saving and closing the game. What's happening mojang? I paid and waited for this new fix, now I pay again and it is a pain to use it. Two months of a mediocre service, what about if I give you a mediocre payment each month? Sorry I'm pissed off. As a lot of us here.

It looks like this is still broken in 1.16.21 on the Switch unless you rearchive
And download.
The error looks the same. It gives an error box that just says “An Error occurred” and then a pop up that says “level export failed”.
When you archive, and redownload, the error box still appears but the “level export succeeded” message changes.
The world appears to work after the upload error on the realm.
My install is on my local switch storage, not an external SD card. I still have several GB of free space.

Yesterday I downloaded the hotfix and played for a while to give it a test. Loading the game, saving and exiting looks fixed ( just tried once), but sadly the realms chat is still freezing at times; I got killed twice waiting for the chat to respond again. Please fix that, I've been reporting that issue here since the problems started with 1.16.2.

I still can't upload a new world to Realms on the switch. I have tried restarting my switch, re archiving and re downloading software a couple times with no luck. I have 2 realms. 1 of which won't allow me to reopen it. and both realms I cannot upload a new world still. I see that apparently this patch has fixed it for some, but nothing seems to have changed for me in the slightest. Anyone else having this issue still?

I'm playing on an iPad Mini (1st gen) and support is ending soon, I really need the realms upload to be fixed so that I can transfer my world and continue playing on my Nintendo Switch

"replace world" for realms still does not work.
Versión :1.16.2
Android

Hello, is there anybody working on this???
What can we do with a MIncecraft card, please?
Thank you

Same problem on Iphone when i'm trying to upload new map, or existing world.
Version: 1.16.20 (no new version is available)

I followed [Mojang] CornerHard's August 11 advice and it worked for me.

@@unknown Your issue is MCPE-47250.

Same issue here using version 1.16.21 on Nintendo Switch using a child account.
Error box that just says “An Error occurred” and then a pop up that says “level export failed”, does this repeatedly with no sign that the world seed is even uploaded.
Can access the realm using the Switch or Windows 10.
Unable to archive and re-download per advice from [Mojang] CornerHard as using physical game cartridge.

Hello, everybody I had this same issue, but using the version 1.16.21 on my switch, I can upload the world successfully despite the error. I got the same error, but whet, I open the realm, and my world was upload correctly. GREAT!!

Hello guys, I have almost the same issue on Xbox One, I was able to upload any world without problems, but once I used a custom resource pack in a world, I couldn't upload it, even if I removed the resource pack.
It showed the same message "An error has ocurred".

Same issue still for me on v1.16.21 on Nintendo Switch using a physical game cartridge.
Error box says “An Error occurred” and then “level export failed” and realm is not replaced.
Will this ever be fixed?

I recently purchased realms plus on my iPhone 8. I have been working on a world for roughly a year now and was pretty excited to upload the world to a realm. To my disappointment, my realm would not replace the realm with the message "An Error has occurred".
I have tried:
Transferring the world to my PC and doing it on the windows 10 edition
Logging out and logging back in to my Xbox Live account
Closing and opening my realm to refresh it
Purchasing a completely new realm (still did not work)
Resetting the realm and uploading it
However, the problem still persists and I am currently unable to upload it.
How do I know it's only a problem for mobile players?
I have asked many other mobile realm owners who experienced the same issue. However, Windows 10 players were able to upload theirs after a few tries.
I also transferred my mobile world to my PC which still didn't work. However, all my worlds on windows 10 worked perfectly and were able to upload onto the realm.
Also, I went onto a website that allows you to download worlds into your own game. I realized pretty quickly that every map made on mobile would not upload onto the realm. HOWEVER, all the maps made on windows 10 edition worked PERFECTLY.
I have also found online that this is an extremely common issue.
Thank you for reading my message. Please fix this ASAP because I am not the only user experiencing this issue. as shown above.

I purchased realms + for two people, I then clicked "replace world" so that I could upload a world I've been working on for over two years so that my team can work on it without me having to be on, but when I tried to upload the world it said "an error occurred" at first I thought it was just temporary but this has been happening for over a month, it'll work with smaller worlds that are about 30MB or less but not big worlds. the world I want to upload is 160MB, but I was able to make it only 125MB but it still didn't work, I tried it on Xbox one, then I exported the world to my computer on the windows ten edition of Minecraft but the same error came up. like I said this has been happening for over a month and I don't know what to do, please help I'll do anything

I cannot tell if this has been added but when trying to upload a previously created world or trying to create a brand new world to play on you Realms server it will provide an error and after 1-2 more attempts it usually crashes the game/application on iOS and Nintendo Switch on Minecraft version 1.16.40. Really hoping to get this figured out as I have a world that I was using on my Realm since 0.7.x and I can no longer use it as it is stuck locally on my Nintendo Switch. It just attempts to upload and then fails with an error message each time.

I have been having issues with my realm for months. I previously reported that I could not update the realm with new addons. So I bought a second realm for testing. By using this realm I was able to upload new worlds and new addons. But my primary realm still did not accept the addons nor would backup to an earlier state. It is currently entirely useless.
The good news is that I have been emailing Mojang support and according to the last email, they finally they found the issue, "a bug in the back end of the realms servers in general. The team has noted this as a bug and are currently working on it." SO hopefully we will see some movement with these issues soon.

I came across this issue playing MCPE on iPad. Had built a world in creative and planned to open it up to a group of friends in a realm tomorrow night. Thought I'd create the realm a little before launch to make sure there were no issues... That's when I repeatedly received the uploading error message.
Tried disabling resource packs and behaviour packs to see if that helped. And also tried uploading to realm from my iPhone. Lastly tried creating a new local world and uploading. None of these worked after repeated attempts.
Ended up buying MCBE for Windows 10 on a work laptop for £22ish. Worked absolutely fine then. Shame I'm not going to be using the laptop and feel a bit stung for the £22, but at least everything is ready for the launch tomorrow night.

I'm working on fixing world uploading for platforms where it doesn't work well, and in 1.16.100 we'll have more detailed error messages that should help sort out the exact problem.

@cornerhard - Any movement on the related issue of owners on mobile not being able to download realm worlds that are more than 426.7MB in size? This bug is extremely frustrating for owners who need to access realm files to fix/modify them directly for re-uploading. Or just to download the realm world files for analyzing world/player data issues.

@cornerhard That’s great news! Any kind of Error logs will be very helpful for us to determine if our add is are the issue or your servers. Looking forward to the updates.👍🏽

I'm also having this issue. All I really wanted to do was use my first minecraft local world in a realm to also play it on my laptop, and I keep getting the error message and my world doesn't update. My issue looks exactly like the pictures. I was able to load a world to my realm before the updates with no issues.

Mcpe is bedrock. They have the same engine bruh..

I am kind of hesitating to continue for my bedrock realms subscriptions because this has been a major problem for bedrock realms owners. I really hope this resolved very soon.

I think realms shouldn't be purchasable until this problem is fixed.

why have you made realms purchasable if they don't even work. That's me had this same problem twice now and both times is soon after i buy a realm.

i just renewed n i want to cancel

Same here can't replace world on realm

Still a problem. Newly renewed realm. Map wasn't huge (30Mb). Can reset, but can't upload anything (even from marketplace)

1.16.4 PC...can't replace realms with another world...had the same problem like 2 years ago...
getting really bad as we need to start a new season...

On the Switch Cornerhards solution works but only for worlds less than 500mb. You still get the "error", but the world is there.
For me, I have a world that is 685mb that when it gets to about 90% in the level export I get the "your software closed because of an error" box and I get taken straight back to the Switch homescreen.

i'm having this issue. transferring a world on iPhone to my realm. It's everytime I change the world either error shows and the world doesn't import or the realm just breaks and becomes unloadable.

i'm having this issue, I just purchased a month of realm and I cannot replace the world it was generated with
[media]
edit:
the game version is 1.16.40 when the realm world is 1.16.50

Having the same issue with windows bedrock. On initializing upload after about two minutes it gives me the "an error has occurred message."

iPad Pocket Edition 1.16.50, iOS 14.0.1. Age of hotfix is only 1 week. Argh whyy?!
World size is brand-new, only about 2.8MB in size. Can't upload to my Realm, and haven't been able to upload to my Realm for nearly six months now. Exactly the same error every time: "An error occured"[sic] right after "Initializing upload". No progress. Then "Error" "An error occured".
This is making playing this game with others extremely difficult.
[Edit ten minutes later]: Re-connecting to Realm shows the world upload did in fact succeed. Just a misleading error message I guess. Thanks Mojang!

IT SEEMS THERE IS NO INTEREST BY MOJANG TO FINALLY **FIX** THIS PROBLEM!!!???

I just created a realm today, and am unable to connect, download, upload, reset, or restore backups. Would like this fixed so that I don't end up with a wasted $10

Im using a Samsung galaxy tab A , with Android
When trying to replace my current realm world it loads then i get the message saying:level Export started ,followed be the message:leve Export finished succesfully, then i get an error message saying:an error occured.this happens everytime and my realm world does not change at all, this makes it pretty much impossible for me to use my realm as intended.

We're now on 1.16.40 for the Switch Version and this issue STILL persists, the level export fails and thus no uploads happens. As there is no other bloody way to access level data in the closed Nintendo system, I'd urge @CornerHard to update us on what's happening here. I don't intend to pay for a realms service that I outright can not use.
So, please, Mojang, please update us on this issue.
Thank you!

@kmpoppe Sorry about your issue! In many cases, the Switch is actually uploading the world to the Realm and the error is inaccurate. Can you check your Realm and see if it's actually been updated? If not, try archiving and re-downloading Minecraft on your Switch, then try the upload again.

@CornerHard thanks for the update. Minecraft is a physical copy (card) - how do I remove only the game date and not losing the worlds that were created?
And no, the Realm doesn't get updated, I cannot even "Reset Realm" (Error in connecting) - and yes, everything else on the switch is fine (and I can connect to the realm and play it).

Same issue here. Get the level export error every time I try to upload my local world to realm. Like Kai, my Minecraft is a physical copy, not digital. Can't do the different device workaround b/c the Switch version is the only one I own. The only reason I purchased a realms subscription was so I could move my world saved locally on Switch to a realm. Wish I'd known about this long standing bug prior to purchase. How do I get a refund, or at least have my subscription placed on hold until this issue is resolved?

Fortunately @EHask, I ordered via the Android version where you get a 30 day trial ... but that has no use either if this issue doesn't get resolved in the next month. I'm quite upset, and I can only imagine your frustration. You might need to call Mojang Customer Service to place that subscription on hold or to refund it, my guess is, they don't read the bug tracker at all

I have this issue on IOS device version 1.16.50. I cannot upload a world to realms, no matter how many times I try. The world is only 180 MB.

Same problem on switch – except now it crashes out the entire game when it's 3/4 of the way done. I've tried every single suggestion on here in multiple combinations.

I also have this issue on Windows 10 edition. No matter how many times I try, it gives me this error. It gets to "Initializing upload" without the uploading bar showing, and then gives an error usually within the next 6-10 seconds. I just activated the Realms free trial yesterday and uploads didn't work then either. I also tried using a wired connection, but I don't think it did anything besides maybe giving an error faster.

Device: Xbox One S
World size: ~200MB
Attempting to upload/replace the world simply says initialising upload then fails

I have 3 realms and I got this error in all of them.
I got the same error on all of my devices (xbox one x and android)
I get the error when I:
-Replace the world of the realm
-Download the realm world
-download a backup
But I can join the realm and replace the world with a backup.
Obs: I tried to buy a new realm, and when I tried to upload my world to the realm i bought, I got the same error.

I got mine to continue initializing upload and left in running overnight and it still did not work. Although I can download the world and its backups without errors.
my world is 220mb

For me it is now working both for downloading and replacing world

Tried it again after a couple weeks and I’m still not able to do anything with realms.

I have been swapping between Xbox and windows 10 via realms as this is the only way I can get addons onto my world and have experienced this error many times.
It appears that for me at least, it is directly linked to addon conflicts. This includes store bought texture packs - Faithful seems to have corrupted zombie piglins & piglin textures which breaks the upload. However, removing faithful it works fine.
This also includes certain addons uploading from PC - this however appears to be random. I have had one addon cause no conflicts on many uploads, now however it appears that it is. The addon has not been updated, so for this one at least I am not sure why it is now causing an issue.

Everyone, I found two things. I had the same issue that wouldn't quit for the life of me. However, I fixed it.
1# backups that were saved while people are online do not work as chunks are always changing
2# backups that are saved while a wither was in the game also dont work as chunks are being updated
SOLUTION: USE A SAVE WHERE NO PLAYERS OR WITHERS ARE ACTIVE

I have a similar problem, when I try to replace the realm world it loads completely and says it worked but then goes back to the initializing upload screen and does nothing. This is on a 5th gen fire tablet.

I have a similar problem, I can not upload my map to my realms. It's annoying to pay for a server with which you can't send a map on it.

Please help. This looks like it’s been going on for months ! I wasted 3 hours trying over and over again & 2560 coins testing different realms. Every time there is an update.. more things break.

I just filed for a refund

I was having this problem on Nintendo Switch. I heard that archiving and redownloading Minecraft was a possible fix but didn't attempt it as I wasn't willing to risk losing my worlds. Well, I ended up doing it and can confirm that archiving Minecraft does fix the problem (and at least for me). I didn't lose any world data so if you use a Nintendo Switch, here's your fix. You're Welcome

I am an xbox one user and am having a similar if not same issue. Just bought a realms membership and wanted to switch out the automatic world it comes with. When i try to replace it with a different world i eventually end up with an error message mid process. I contacted support and was told that sometimes even when the upload was successfully i may receive an error message and to try to go into the realm and it should be the world i had been trying to upload. I did this and it still was the automatic world my subscription came with. I'd hate to have bought realms for it to not quite work right, i see this is an ongoing problem, and wonder if those having issues will be offered a refund? But i also would like to thank you guys, because i know your working hard on it and trying your best. Appreciate your help!
update- i tried uninstalling and reinstalling my Minecraft , but still having the same problems.

This has been happening since I bought my realm in march. It is extremely frustrating to not be able to upload a world to a realm I'm paying for monthly. I have asked for help and they just tell me to "try again" or check the FAQs. I'm getting very tired of not getting any real help, since I have been looking for months. Hopefully this gets resolved soon, and if anyone knows any tricks to getting it to work please lmk!!

Same on Android 10 Nokia 7.1 and Samsung S20 FE with MCPE 1.16.201
Tryed to copy the worlds to via Realms to new mobile. Verry sad it doesn't work.
Last update of this issue was 2020-10-11. Any news about its progress?

This is ridiculous my time on realm is ticking but i cant use whichever the world i want? , it literally finishes uploading the world and says its successful but when i enter it , its still the same old world from before, and only doesnt work for one of my worlds , the new ones do upload.

The workaround described by @unknown worked for me:
Archive Minecraft on your Switch - this will delete Minecraft, but keep your data and worlds
Re-download Minecraft - this will download a fresh installation and restore your game data
Go to your realm settings, tap replace and select the world you want to upload.
It will then upload the world, write something about initializing and finally post a note that it was unable to verify the successful upload.
It then took a few tries (connection unsuccessful) until I could log into my realm, but finally, my world was there. Yay!

What about people who are on PC?

I'm on a Switch, says Upload failed, regardless of method. Don't like that I'm paying for a service I can't use. Bad business, bad Juju..... How do I go about pausing or refunding my Minecoins..... If it's a service that does not work, then that encroaches on fraud. I just want what I paid for or my refund.... Don't care if it's just the Minecoins, I'll start anew when Caves comes...... Otherwise it's a problem.

Switch users!! Archive minecraft and re-download minecraft. Try replacing world again. It worked for me. Im hoping it will do that same for you. Pretty much follow what it says to do in the August update on the issue at the top.

I've been having this problem for the past two weeks. I've already tried re-downloading Minecraft and it still fails to upload saved worlds to any realm.

ive been having this problem a lot on my switch, and before i had the same problem on pocket edition. But i tried just downloading from past saves of the realm on pe since i hadnt tried pe in a long time, and that worked. I only tried it once and i will no longer try and upload new worlds since im scared of losing mine.

Hey guys! New to minecraft this year whoo! Anyhow I noticed on xbox one when the controller times out (shuts off) while waiting for a world to upload to realm it seemed to mess up or at least pause the installation.
Order of events.
-Bought a realm.
-When the purchase process finished it immediately Loaded the realm.
-Exited realm.
-Located new world i wanted to upload and replace realm old world with.
-Went to new worlds settings and attempted to upload on realms.
-Failed. Fail types(unable to find a place to save , or doesn't appear to do anything during initializing for 10 min)
-Repeated previous 2 steps for about an hour.
-Attemp to upload world to realm again
-Let it just sit for an hour no errors but nothing appeared to be happening. Controller timed out after 5 min.
-Repeated previous 2 steps twice more.
-Attempted to load smaller world to realms through the realms page not the smaller world's settings
-Failed a few times
-Then when it seemed to be accomplishing nothing during initializing the progress bar popped up completed then the world was uploaded.
-attempted to load the original new world through the realms page(all attempts from this point forward are through realms page) not the new worlds settings.
-failed. Fail types(unable to find a place to save , or doesn't appear to do anything during initializing for 10 min)
-Repeat previous 2 steps a few times.
-Attemp to upload world to realm again
-Let it just sit for an hour no errors but nothing appeared to be happening. Controller timed out after 5 min.
-repeat last two steps twice
-then I attempted it while keeping the controller awake.
-Took 30 min during a blank initializing screen but then the progress bar popped up completed and the world was uploaded.
Maybe the platforms "time out" or sleep or Screensaver is messing with the upload. I haven't read everything on this so I do not know if this has been approached yet.
Hope that helps. Will try it a few more times going back and forth between letting the controller time out and keeping it awake to better isolate the issue.

I have the same problem of some people (I am on Minecraft Bedrock on PS4) :
When I try to upload a World on Realms, it says that it has been well done.
But after that, there is a loading bar which is supposed to pop on my screen, but nothing appears, and an error occurs, saying that the import encountered a problem.
The funny part is that all of my friends can join my Realms, but I can't.
When I try, it makes me jump into my world, and I and my friends on the server get disconnected after a few seconds.
So yeah, my friends can join my Realms, but I can't, what a pleasure lol
(The screens below are in French)

The workaround with archiving the software and redownloading it worked, at least for me on my Switch. When it first uploaded, it seemed like it wasn't uploading properly. However, there was just a visual glitch where it looked like it was stuck uploading.

Almost a year and it's still not updated. 4 months into this was told no on the request I made for a refund. I'm so done with minecraft. I am 100% going to start trolling from now on

So after a long and frustrating time iwe had while playing on the PC version of bedrock edition and having this same problem, i just reinstalled the whole app and i could upload the world i wanted no problems, just make sure to save the worlds on your desktop or somewhere before doing this if you want to do it.

The only solution I've found is just uninstall and reinstall the game

I finally had success uninstalling Minecraft on the Switch, reinstalling, and then World uploads are working again.

Hoping this gets fixed soon !!

Currently dealing with constant realm disconnects and now also having this issues. Downloaded backup world to try to revert realm to an earlier save with less villagers. Unable to replace or upload the backup world or any worlds to realms. An export starts and popup says that export was successful but then one of two things will happen. Either receiving error "Failed to find a place to upload your world. Maybe check your internet connection?" (see screenshot uploaded today) or goes to "Initiating Upload" where screen remains idol until pushing the "cancel" button which is the only button available on screen.
I've attempted to upload the world from both Switch edition and from Pocket Edition with same result. I archived the switch software and reinstalled and still have the same error.
I was able to reset my realm world and now have a brand new world that is playable on the realm. I want to upload my backup world but am unable.
I can play on the backup world with no issues while not in realm.

I was able to upload my world to my realm by uploading from different devices. First my PC, then my smartphone and so on. My smartphone was the one that worked

After reading up on the internet I managed to successfully upload a world from my switch to realms and next successfully download it to my sons switch lite.g
I started with archiving the Minecraft software on both switches
after archiving I restarted both switches
Reinstalled Minecraft on Switch (game card version)
i made a copy of the world that I want to transfer and named it a
I opened the world a to verify if it was a good copy
saved and quit minecraft
closed the software
restarted the switch
Started Minecraft, choose edit of world a and choose play on realms
selected the correct realm
the export started and finished without errors
on the switch lite I reinstalled Minecraft (estore version) and joined the realm server.
After exiting the world I successfully downloaded the realms world to a local world on the switch lite.
On both switches I used my sons switch account which is linked to a Microsoft account for Minecraft.

I get a message “We couldn’t confirm if your world uploaded properly. Please join your Realm to check, then try again if it hasn’t updated to the new world.” When I enter to check, some of the grass in the world is bright jungle green, even though I’m in a spruce forest. This affects a maybe 100 x 100 space around my base, where I spend most of my time. This doesn’t affect any other players on the Realm. I think the bright green-ness is caused by some error in the data uploading, as the error message states. I am on Pocket Edition, 1.16

I am having this issue as well. I cannot replace the map and I cannot change the resource packs for that map.

+1 on latest Win10 edition - just tried to setup a new realm to use a LAN map my wife and I play together on and it won't upload. Sometimes it hangs at the Initializing Upload screen and sometime it errors that it cannot find my network connection, which is not true because my network connection is fine. My map is 90MB creative mode with default resources.

Ever since update to v 1.16.210 can no longer upload worlds to Realms. Getting error that there is no space to upload and check internet. This is a Apple iPad Pro, obviously running Bedrock. This is two days in a row we haven't been able to play Realms and we've just renewed our subscription. Grr.

I have an update in my scenario - I was unable to upload/replace my Realm on PC, so I tried from my android phone pocket edition, which also failed with what appeared to be the same issue. So I file transferred my local world save over to my Xbox Series X and I was able to upload/replace my local world into my Realm on the first try. The only differences I can easily identify are that I was successful from the Xbox and it is on a wired connection to my home internet where my PC and phone were both on wireless connections to my home internet.

Last reaction on this issue was Oct. 2020! Nearly half a year ago!
The number of people with this problem is rising and rising. No information about current status.
That's a verry bad communication.
As aother guy said: What's about they money we have payed for a service we don't get!? Google says it's a Moyang Problem. And here nowbody is moving.
I'm verry disapointed.
Can we expect any solution in near future?

+1 on this issue. I'm using the Xbox edition and not only can I not upload my world, but I cannot download the current one or join the realm at all.

+1 on this issue. I have an old Realm (not Realms Plus). I subscribed in parallel to Realms Plus, downloaded my original Realm and tried to upload to the new Realm Plus. It just doesn’t work.
I’ve tried on iPad, iOS and Windows 10. All of them fail with the same unhelpful “An error occurred” message.
I’m shocked that this problem has been open for so long with so little response from the developers.

+1 on this issue. I have just subscribed to Realms Plus so that my lad and his friends can play on their favourite bedrock world. At first I couldn't even subscribe to a realm on windows 10, so I signed up on my iphone instead. Now we have the realm and can log into it on Windows 10, but cannot replace the world. I've tried on both windows 10 and I've also gone through the rigmarole of transferring the world to my xbox one and trying to replace the world form there, but the same every time.
World export completes with a progress bar, then we get a box saying "initialising upload" but with no progress bar. It sits like that for a few minutes, and then a dialogue pops up saying "an error occurred".

+1
Any update? You should refund the Realms monthly fee. Well, you guys don't. lol

@ Takuya Naganeyama neither an update nor any reaction. Maybe Heise or any other wordpress/news page will be interested in this topic with its own 319 comments and about 460 links to related issues, but no reaction from developer? There only can be 2 possibilities: 1- This problem is verry hughe and not easy to fix. All developer @ Mojang are working hard on this. 2- Mojang doen't cares anything about. for only 319 comments... tststs.. No chance to pick up the phone...
What ever the reason is, we users whould like to know and get ANY feedback
P.S.: YES. poor english. i know and do my best 😉

I found a sort of workaround, but it's not perfect. So I was on the Realms Plus (10 player) plan for ~$9 a month. I couldn't find any way to just delete the realm and set up a new one, so I canceled my Realms subscription instead. I was paid up for a month, so I'd have to wait for the rest of the month to run out and maybe completely get rid of the Realm then. However, I noticed there's now a 2 player Realms plan for only ~$4 a month. Since I'm the only one that plays on my Realm (I play from multiple different devices), that was ideal. Set up a new 2 player plan, and was able to upload my world backup without issue. Saved some money, too! I'm guessing if you can completely cancel a Realm, you could set up a new one with a backup and not have to deal with this error.

My video link: https://youtu.be/4uppZZLmC_0
Summary: Using Windows 10 Edition (v1.16.210) unable to replace existing world for Realms Plus account especially if world is somewhat large (100mb+?). I attempted this with a smaller world and it seems to work (4.5mb). Also, related issues - unable to use local world's "Play on Realm" button - just errors out through the process - then the new realm is seeded with a random world. Also, seem unable to "reset" the world of the original realms plus subscription.

I performed the archive and redownload trick and made slight progress. The upload bar now fills and it says upload successful however the upload window stays up with only a cancel button present. Wait a few minutes and the familiar error occurred message pops up and I'm back where I started.

What a load of rubbish still no fix

Did everything they asked, archive game, delete download replace and everything worked out great, thanks

OK so my ticket was call a duplicate but and brought me here but this ticket is for switch not iOS anyone got a fix for the iOS? I have the error we’re its say error Failed to export plz help

I can confirm this is a bug on 1.16.220 on Windows 10. It took nearly three hours tonight (From 6 PM EDT to 8:35 PM EDT) and five attempts to upload a 63 MB World to realms successfully, dealing with this generic error the first four times.
Turned out closing Minecraft, logging out of LIVE via Xbox app, closing the Xbox app, restarting Minecraft and then logging back into my LIVE account through Minecraft fixed the issue after four failed attempts. Resetting my router, resetting my computer, and removing all texture packs did not work for the second, third, and fourth attempts.

Getting generic "an error has occurred" on PS4 v1.16.220 trying to upload a ~90mb world. Losing time on free trial.

I'm on xbox one x been having this issue since I created my realm four days ago still haven't been able to fix it will there ever be an update fix for this or a way to fix it yourself

Will this be ever resolved? I mean no reply is coming from team, are they working or jus enjoying on our money.

Unbelievable - my little one has been using realms for a year with the same world - tried to upload a new one for him - error messages each of the 20 attempts. Cancelled that subscription to try & start a new realms subscription that might work better - but now the new realm I've bought won't finish installing - error: 'your purchase succeeded but we couldn't create your Realm right now. We will create you Realm as soon as possible. Check back later on this device.' When I tried again several times later it still has the same error each time it tries to install. So...good money after bad I guess, and a very upset child - how are microsoft getting away with this??!!!! I feel 'rip off Britain'/'watchdog' complaints coming on....😞

Wasn't able to access Realms last week at all, kept getting msgs of "Check your internet connection"(22mb down, and 3.8mb up solid), and "an Error occurred" on PS4 platform as well as PC version. So I used the internal saves to do my streams in order to continue and upload later, but I am STILL getting the same msgs. I attempted to use it and it was so slow in reacting that it made me create 2 more Realms, which I don't want and can't upload to anyway... I will expect a refund or payment extension or credit for not being able to use whatever pro-rated time that the Realms is not functional within my one month(or more) ALREADY ACCEPTED PAYMENT!!!

I'd like to add this issue to my realms issue of not being able to change difficulty as this is part of the fix I have been told to do and this issue is now stopping the fix from working
50+players waiting for my realm to simply have its mob weekly schedule back

I have a similar issue, but instead of the export being a success, it says "we couldn't pack your world file for upload. Maybe your hard drive is full?" But it's not. I have 15GB of space left on my console and an entire 8GB SD card. Please fix this issue asap. Thanks.

I am having to run my realm as a world 24 hours right now because I still cant fix this issue due to the other bug of not being able to upload realms with the message lack of space/check internet or blank no progress with only the option to wait for the rest of eternity for ultimately nothing to happen or cancel and try again. I specifically just upgraded my home Wi-Fi network to see if the issue was my end or yours and its most certainly an issue in the game not with me internet connection
please fix this issue I cant afford to run hardware 24/7 but have no choice until this is fixed

The only way I was able to fix this, was archiving Minecraft and then reinstalling it. But it's very troublesome and time consuming to do if you want to play different maps with your friends. (I play on switch)

I've had this issue since the 1.16.220 update for the windows 10 version. I can access the realm no problem and reset the world but it will now not upload any world of any size using the "replace world" button or opening the world and clicking "play on realms". I've tried deleting and redownloading minecraft, using a VPN, using a second account, using a different computer, starting a new realm on the second account...NOTHING. I keep getting the "an error occurred" message. I reached out to support and all they said was "the world should upload onto the realm even if you get that message".....no. It doesn't.
I had something similar happen during the 1.16.210 update and got it to work by using a different device that was on an older version. I then had to update the app/realm to 1.16.210 and it worked! But I can't get it to work this time.

still having this issue even into 1.16.221 update

I have been unable to change out my world on my realm for months. It errors at the initializing world phase, and DOES NOT LOAD THE NEW WORLD. Why do I pay for this if it is never working?! When I research it, it shows that this error has been known for more than a year, and the dev's still have not fixed it.

This has been happening for me on the Switch and it is incredibly annoying. I won't continue to play if I can't upload my world out of the Switch regularly for backups – it's too risky. Provide us with a way to backup our Switch world or fix this bug.

can't upload me world to my realms , I play in Android decide

from REALMS-7990 copied for you to teach 1.16.220 / 1.16.221 probrems now.
If you upload more than 15mb to Realm with "Replace World", the server will censor it and return an error to the client during the final process, and Realm will be unavailable for the next 10 minutes.
The cause of this issue is that the process after completing the upload cannot apply the world to Realms with internal censorship.
The error message says "Please check your internet connection" but this was not a solution.
As a result, worlds larger than 15MB cannot be applied to Realm, so there is no way to enjoy worlds that have been played for a long time other than locally. I've been using it for over three years, but this censorship has made more than double-digit worlds unusable in Realm.

is this true, why is this not being fixed I'm cancelling my subscription so I can wait for it to run out so I can try refreshing the realm it that way but this needs fixing, its bad enough that realm owners don't have the ability to use certain commands to rectify certain other issues such as difficulty but not being able to change difficulty at all or replace the world with a like for like replacement is making vanilla survival really boring really fast and people are stopping playing as days pass

@WarkunVer ,
thanks for this information.
But i tryed it yet with worlds smaller than 15MB (all between 0,5 and 2,5 MB) Still not working. Error Massage "Es ist ein Fehler aufgetreten" (An error has occourred). Nothing more specific.
I'm trying it in regular intervals and get rfunds from Playstore. Hoping it will work anytime.
I think there are more problems than a simple MB limit
Take care,
Rolias

Has a limit for upload, I bilieve not, but I need to question.

Concurring with Peter Lustig's comment, attempting to replace the Realm with a world much smaller than 15MB (specifically, 0.65MB) returns an error message, but for me the error message is "Unable to find a place to upload a world...". This is the order:
Joined Realm, "waking" it
Left Realm
After a few minutes, attempted to replace ~1.3GB world with ~0.65MB world, fails twice with message as stated above but also shows in-game popup saying upload successful
Attempted to join twice, fails both times with "Failed attempting to join Realm..."
10 minutes after leaving Realm (#2), able to replace world successfully, thereafter able to join Realm
Attempted successfully to replace Realm with 1.3GB world backup

Hello bud, can u please share me the discord link or the name of the JSON file i must delete?, thanks

I've only managed to reupload a previous save not a new non backup one but the steps I took to upload the realm backup are as follows
1
make a save of your realm by downloading the most recent backup
2
open that save to make sure it works as it should as a world eg it opens for a start
3
reset realm (caution make sure you don't skip steps 1 and 2or you will replace your realm with a brand new random seed)
4
join new reset empty realm to again make sure it all loads in (I did a slow 360 turn on the spot)
5
save and exit and then upload the most recent backup before the reset (it should be clear as the sizes will be different eg min is a 1.4-1.7gb world so easy to spot after 0-0.50mb reset)
the only thing this changed for me is the difficulty was stuck on peaceful and now its stuck on normal so I am not entirely happy about it

The level export is working and completes, the 'Initializing Upload' screen doesn't have any sort of progression bar, and just stops saying "Error - An error occurred"
All I'm tryna do is upload my solo world to a realm 😞

I just cancelled my subscription (Your subscription will end on 6/4/2021. If you change your mind, come back and choose Turn on recurring billing on this subscription before it ends.) I believe this will resolve this issue for me when I go to another hosting company on/after 6/4/2021. I need a hosting solution that can take a local world and host it. Realms doesn't currently offer this.

ive been trying to upload my realm, and it wasn't working for a while but after i deleted chunk files to bring it under 30 megabytes it started to work, so its a solution not a very good one though

I'm using a translation tool, so I don't know if it will be transmitted well ...
After trying various things, I was able to upload the local world to Realms and play with it.
Terminal used: Switch
Version: 1.7
World capacity: 180MB
To be on the safe side, we recommend backing up the data you want to upload.
1. Reset the world of Realms once
2. Upload the local world
I get an error when the initialization is complete, but this procedure replaced the Realms data with the local one.
When I downloaded Realms World, the amount of data I uploaded was almost the same.
(Although it's about 2MB less ...)
I played for a day and I can play without any problems.
My belongings and buildings seemed to be safe.
The error display may be a UI-only issue.
I don't think this method is a complete solution.
However, I would like to continue to play on Realms, as it has been a long time since I have been able to play with my family.
I hope this information helps you solve the problem.

I've had problems uploading maps around 100 Mb, but with bigger maps it's simply impossible. It doesn't matter how many times I try it, it never works.
Paying for a Realm that I cannot use it's not a great business...

I ran into an issue with my world (ps4/ps5) where according to the game there is no more space available despite >1TB free. The world is currently 1.3G. I tried to upload it to Realms to see if I could continue playing the world (several years old now) but like so many other players I am unable to upload it to a realm. Just a basic/generic error that’s says there was a problem uploading the world and to try again. I’ve tried over a dozen times now.
World is Bedrock 1.17 and was not converted from the older console version.

I'm getting "an error occurred" here on uploading a world that is only 25MB. Super frustrating! If there's anything I can do to help fix this please let me know. I can supply an export of my world if that's helpful.

I’ve got the same problem but on PS4. I can’t replace my realm with a different world or play a world as a realm. It’s definitely not to do with my world size as i’ve tried to play a new world on my realm but it doesn’t work. Might be something to do with the servers and the game going from 1.16 to 1.17? - I have no idea. Hopefully it gets fixed soon as it is quite frustrating spending money on a subscription service that doesn’t work as intended.

Currently having a slightly different error message. My switch is saying that it's disc is full and can't pack the world for upload. I already deleting every DLC I had and ensured I had 11GB free of data. Still nothing. Attempting to archive and try again...
And it appears to be working! So Switch owners, if you can't upload, try archiving the game first (NOT DELETING).

Hi I can't upload a new world to my realm, I can't delete or reset the realm. It always says error/ can't find a place to upload. I tried both in my phone and in my PS4. I moved to realms because minecraft won't allow me to join any of my friend's worlds in PS4 and that issue is still unresolved until now. I hope this gets fixed soon unlike that one. I paid for this service

I have had this problem too since I made this realm after the Nether Update. I am currently playing on 1.17.10 where the upload will load but "initialize upload" sitting there for 5 minutes until it realizes an error has occurred (only if you archive Minecraft on a switch). Worlds in 1.17.10 do take up quite some space, mine being around 370mb.
I am quite upset that this hasn't been completely fixed, although it was slightly worked on in 1.17.10. This world isn't caves and cliffs experimental btw.
I pay for a 2 person realm and am trying to put the same world on my 10 person realm. I'm spending a lot of money and want this to be fixed soon, as I have spent hours trying to troubleshoot.

The replace world function doesn't allow me to replace the Realms World with my Local Save Game that I've put a lot of time into. The file size of the world I'm trying to upload is 381.9MB. My PC is connected to the router via Hardwire and I have Fiber Internet so I know my speed isn't an issue (1000Mbps Up and down). Have been trying off and on for 3 days now to upload the world both with the realm up and with the realm turned off (the internet is rather torn on which you are supposed to do) before making this video that shows start to finish how It acts when I try to use this feature. i wish they would fix this issue quicker cause I'm still having to pay for this service despite not getting to use it. 😞 😞

I’ve been following this bug for some time. I’m sure this workaround is specific to my failure scenarios but I wanted to share in case others had the same problem. I had this issue consistently on 2 PCs. I tried it on a third machine and it worked without issue. Diffing the working and non working scenarios, I noticed that the machines that I used FoxyNoTails MCBE Switcher (third party application that changes the default com.mojang folder location to allow for “profiles”) had the issue. I uninstalled, reinstalled MC from the store, and launched the game normally and I’ve been able to upload my 1.2 GB realm multiple times without fail.

why hasn't this been fixed yet i'm seeing a lot of people that are paying other companies money that Mojang could be making through realms but is instead being lost to external servers which are cheaper easy to use and much more reliable
i myself used to pay for realms but since this issue first effected me and 50 other people that would play on it was never addressed of fixed i gave up trying to look at mojang for support i look to my server host of choice (eg hostinger or shockbyte for example) and they get back to me within a few hours-max 24 hours and instead of costing the realms subscription price i now pay £18 every 3 months with much higher admin support less lag for my global players and more slots for players to be on at the same time (if i matched realms player list it would be £4.50 every 3 months

for those just trying to download your realm to upload as a backup id say give up until someone posts that this issue is fixed because its years old now and still hasn't been replied to recently

We have an improvement coming to this in 1.17.30, and will be reworking how uploads and downloads work after that. The goal is to have this be totally reliable on all platforms.

looks like this is still an issue with v1.17.11. I tried to upload a world that was around 1GB, but keep getting this error after about 20 mins of wait.
I am a new subscriber to realms, and i hope this can get fixed quickly. I dont know if it's really worth it to spend the $3.99/month, when the world that i want to play isnt playable....?

So I just signed up for a 30 day free trial on this and it doesn't work? So after the fix do I get to actually have my free trial or straight up pay for it? Disappointed right now.

This is really annoying, for me the name of the world on the realm, changes to the same as the world I'm trying to upload, but it just makes a brand new blank world

I'm also blocked by this.
Last year I purchased a Realm for my kiddo's 8th birthday party (couldn't have an in-person party due to covid, so we had an online Minecraft party).
This year, since we STILL can't have a party, I purchased the Greek Mythology Mash-Up world for his birthday, but I can't upload it to the Realm due to this bug. The world has a Resource Pack, but I can't upload ANY world, not even a tiny 12MB world that was previously downloaded from the Realm.
To add to my frustration, it turns out I've been paying for this Realm for a year, but my kid basically never used it because he constantly had issues with his Nintendo Switch connecting to it and gave up. Now he plays mostly on Windows 10 Edition, but he and his friends had already given up on the Realm I've paid over $100 for this past year.
Sounds like there's no fix coming in time for my kid's party next weekend. And while I can just run my own dedicated server, there's no easy way to get his console-playing friends to connect to it.
It's hard to understand how this has been an open issue since 2017 with no apparent movement towards a solution. As this is related to recurring revenue for MS/Mojang, how in the world isn't this a high enough priority to have a reliable fix sorted out after all this time? I'm not sure how to explain to my kid that his birthday world will be limited to 4 guests at a time because of a bug on your end when it was working last year.

So after some extensive tinkering I managed to upload my world to realms from my ps5.
I had to login to my router settings and change Nat type to open. I also had to add my ip address from from Ps5 to the settings in the router which according to the warning messages leaves my ps5 open to hackers.
Long story short, it worked and now I can play realms. Check your router settings and just do some tinkering it'll eventually work.

I just tried to upload my would to my realm that i just bought and got this error.
1. using version 1.17.2
2. error message: An error occurred
3. Nintendo switch
4. No addons, textures or behaviours
5. world size is around 350mb
6. uploading my world to my realm

I have the same problem as many of the above. I play on Nintendo Switch and wanted to upload my solo world to my realm so I could download it on ps4. But whenever I try to upload the world to the realm, it says an error has occurred... It starts the level export but when it's about to finish, the programe closes and the message "the software was closed because an error occurred" appears.
I have tried searching for corrupt data but nothing was found. I also tried some of the advices commented in this post, such as reseting the map, downloading the software again, renaming the file, etc... but nothing works.
My information:
Using version 1.17.11
Error message: The software was closed because an error occurred.
Nintendo Switch
No add-on packs
World size around 610 mb
Tried but didn't work
Considering this is an open issue since 2017, it should be stated before allowing you to buy the subscription. I was lucky I used the free trial. But even so, it is a free trial I wont be able to use.
EDIT: I created a new world, played for a few minutes and tried to upload it to the realm. It worked perfectly fine. So the problem, in my case at least, seems to be the size of the world. But if realms can handle 5 GB worlds, how is it possible that I can't upload a 600 MB world?

I finally got to upload my 900 MB world after trying a lot. Unluckily I'm not really sure when it did happen because the version uploaded wasn't the most recent version of my world. Now I've been playing on it for a few days to recover what was lost and everything runs without trouble.
I guess yes... the size of the world is an issue, they should fix that but you can keep trying in the meantime. I downloaded my world to my PC (Coming from Ps4) and tried to upload it again from there. The file is now only 500 MB and I had no trouble on doing it from my computer.

Just tried new update 1.17.30 and still cannot upload world to realm. I have a world that was created on the real. If I download it I cannot upload it with out the error.

i tried new version1.17.30. buy this probrem is not fixed.
1.using version 1.17.30
2. error message: An error occurred (on initializing upload)
3. Nintendo switch
4. No addons, textures or behaviours
5. world size is around 18mb
6. uploading my world to my realm

I tried win10 Xbox Android Switch edition, the error occurred every time.
version 1.17.30

Android
Minecraft 1.17.30
STILL cannot edit or replace world on my realm.
Trying to upload a world of 451MB
Does the level export but then game crashes and upload fails.
This has been an issue for months now and it's just pathetic that it can't be fixed. I am paying a monthly fee for a product that simply does not work!

Nintendo Switch
Minecraft 1.17.30
Same issue with Alex Harrison.
Download the expired realm, replace world with my new subscription. I've been having this problem for 2 days now.
I'm uploading 481 MB game, does the level export but the game crashes and upload fails and shows an error, tried again today it does the level export but says failed realm

MC for Windows 10 (bedrock) / PS4 /PS5
I am also having this exact same problem. The world I want to upload is 370MB and the export is successful. When it starts “initializing upload” there’s no status bar and it eventually pops up the “Error: an error occurred”. No additional details. I also tried this with a real world with “Mob Pets” DLC which was only 47 MB and got the exact same year. I can create a new local world and and upload successfully. My client is on V.1.17.30. It would seem that the realm server is not on the same version? Or that our worlds that exist there are not on that same version? Our family has spent months in this world and we do not want to lose it. please give us a way to convert and re-upload if that is the issue. We don’t mind the subscription fee for a persistent world but if we lose it then the realm is useless and we will be canceling. Hope you find a solution soon looks like same/similar issues has been open for years! This was definitely not an issue for my family before the recent v1.17.30 update.
And could support please provide an update so we know that you do hear us and have not forgotten us or that we are being ignored?! Thanks!

PS4 Bedrock V1.17.30
My error message is different to usual since installing 1.17.30. It used to say an error has occurred and if I persisted, it eventually loaded. Now I have a different message: “we couldn’t pack your world file for upload. Maybe your hard drive is full?” I have many GB’s of space, and only two other 60 MB Minecraft games, so space is not an issue. This message keeps appearing, no matter how I try to replace the Realm world. I have been trying for several days now.

This is still broken. I purchased a world off the store, go to create it and I get the 'initializing upload' screen that appears to upload first, then goes to a second progress bar and ends up with what is in the picture.

Yes, mine and my sister's are still broken w/ that exact error for most of the time ~80%... sometimes we get the other variant of "Failed... something about checking if my internet works". This has been the case for us since v1.17.11, v1.17.30, v1.17.31 and now v1.17.32. It is very frustrating and as many others have indicated, we are basically paying for something we cannot use.
Mojang - please if you're hearing/reading this, can we please get an update? The try and try again, and again and again and again until eventually works recommendation doesn't work. I've been trying daily.

Good news,I uploaded my world (190MB)
iOS15 game version 1.17.32
When I was uploading the world, error occurred,as it used happen.
But I ignored it and waited for about 10 minutes, don't click that "OK",just let it be.
After about 10 minutes(maybe the screen should stay on),then click "OK‘ and back to the realm page and get in realm,I found it uploaded successfully.
Hope it will help,and.... I'm not English native speaker, sorry for my language mistakes.

Hello! When i try to upload resource packs via PlayStation5 it doesn't even start to download the realms resource packs before it says "Error while downloading packs from server. Please try again."
Can you please fix this? i would like to enjoy the resource packs that are on the realms.

I would randomly get these errors and eventually after wasting an hour of constant trying / waiting, it finally went through. This happens every time and is very frustrating. It does this both on Xbox and PC.
I do have an addon for our world as well. Sometimes when going to edit the realm slot it will randomly complain about not being able to apply content or something like that.
The behavior pack works, but always shows up in the addon as "missing"

MaLu is right - if you ignore the error then back out, the world would've uploaded anyway.

@MaLu / @Hasan - Unfortunately, this isn't working for me. I even tried leaving that "error" popup up without clicking "OK" for several hours, no kidding. And it still did not up load my world. I tried it on both my realm and my sister's realm.
This is as of today, where the client and server versions got a recent update to v1.17.40. Waited for a good 30 minutes before clicking "OK", but no luck. If anyone else has found any workarounds that work, would appreciate it. I'm actually very close to simply cancelling the realms.
[media][media]
Mojang Support - could you provide an update? Is this even being analyzed/investigated? over a month since last update from a support rep.

Having this issue as well still, Geo is not alone. Getting an update on this would be great. Tbh, the upload feature is the only reason I got on to realms, so its very inconvenient to not have this work

Having this issue on 1.17.40 and Windows 10. The world is about 200MB.

It works for me in 1.18. I just recently tried with a 42MB world and I had to wait until the "an error has occurred" message popped up until I pressed cancel. Exit the realms window and reload and you should the correct world size in your backup log.

So about once every 10+ attempts I will get the "All Done" Dialogue box which leads me to believe that Realm Replacement is "All Done".
[media]However, when I click "Let's Go" or just select the world to play, it's just the world that was supposed to have been replaced.
Also on the "All Done" dialogue box, it shows 195.5MB out of 195.5MB even though my world is 196.7MB.
[media]Same results so far pre and post 1.18 update.

@CornerHard - does the 1.18 workplan for solving realm import issues also extend to solving realm export issues tracked in MCPE-42091, such as the long-standing failure "Download failed. The world size exceeds the maximum downloadable limit of 426.7MB."
And I'm just idly curious as a programmer what 426.7MB might represent as an architectural limit. 5 / 4 / 3 * 1024? Does the first person to guess right get a job offer from Microsoft?

Could we please get an update on this please? 1.18 has come and gone and a few iterations in and the issue still persists. The "suggestion" that it did import and works properly despite giving the popup error is erroneous. I've tried several times, perhaps even dozens in 1.18 and it still doesn't work.

Same issue for months now - still no updates or acknowledgement of the issue.

Please note in the Description there was an update posted on 3 Feb 2022.
For more information about how the bug tracker works and how reports are handled please review the Bug Tracker Guidelines.

I was trying to upload a world and after export finished, appear a dialog error saying "an error occurred", but when I see my realms, one slot changed its name to my world name, but it's not my world.

Having the same issue right now, New Realm was Bought yesterday (02/21/22), trying to export my Current Survival World but couldn't upload because of this Bug please fix it fast cause I paid for the realm and I don't want it to be a waste of money

Any status updates on this bug?

was able to upload a file yesterday and tried today and now its bugged and doesn't pass the initializing upload screen. Has anyone found a way around this?

World over two gigabytes crash the game entirely on Xbox One.

1.18.30 was released last week - what's the latest on that new HTTP library?
Uploads still totally broken for me

I've activated the new HTTP library on iOS & Windows, and on 1.18.30 and 1.18.31, i haven't had any success yet. I'll keep trying, and post another comment if i have any luck!
Update: No luck, I've tried multiple times with the new HTTP library on, i've tried on immediate start up, and i've tried with the game open, then closed then i enabled it, then opened the game again, and a few other things, but i've had no success. I've only tried on iOS & Windows though.

Make sure to fully close Minecraft - the setting will only take effect when the game very first starts up. Once the game is running, the setting will change back to 'false', so you'll have to manually re-enable it and fully close and reopen Minecraft whenever you want to do an upload.

On android the error message on upload pops up, but the world makes it onto the realm, but on xbox series x the error message pops up and the world doesn't make it onto the realm. In the game file info on the Xbox it say "console type:xboxone". Could that be the cause of the problem in this case? and if so how to fix?

I've done a little bit of testing with the new HTTP library enabled. I've noticed that any world with Add-ons on them do not work, but worlds without addons do work, at least for me. I've only done this on windows 10, so not sure about other platforms.
I've done a little more uploading with the new HTTP library, my 172.7MB world will not upload, but my 0.31MB world will upload. Both have Holiday creator features and gametest framework enabled, along with education edition.
After uploading the smaller world, some of the experimental features didn't work anymore. It could be the packs, not sure. The packs i used worked in a regular world, but only kind of worked on the test realm i'm using.
It seems that the smaller world can upload even without the HTTP library enabled.

Experienced the same symptoms as Matthew Bettenberg
I'm also on Windows 10, and I can also successfully replace a realm world with a vanilla world with no add-ons, but when trying to replace a realm world with the Star Wars Mash-Up I experience failure during 'Initializing Upload' with the ever-useful 'An error occurred' message.
Changing the http lib settings made no difference.
FYI the skins / resource pack was applied and available in Creative but the world template / behavioural pack had not been applied.

I cannot replace my world on my realm. PC version. I also cannot download world from the marketplace. I tried the solution at the top several times. It does not work.

Still looking for an answer to whether the good progress made here to fix Realm uploads will also solve long-standing problems with Realm downloads documented at MCPE-42091, especially the common condition "Download failed. The world size exceeds the maximum downloadable limit of 426.7MB."

Any updates on this?

Has anybody located global_settings.json using the Android version?
I have 1.18.32.02 and have no trouble finding world data, resource packs, etc., at (devicename)/Android/data/com.mojang.minecraftpe/files/games/com.mojang.
For example minecraftpe/global_resource_packs.json exists there.
But I don't see global_settings.json, even when showing hidden files.

Windows 11, no resource pack, 260MB world. Updated the json file per instructions.... Still doesn't work.

Have tried to upload a copy of my current 2 player realm to a 10 player realm with no luck. Tried on Xbox series x, android and windows 10. I have tried this approximately 150 times. This needs resolved.

Have same issue, downloaded world to find end cities with better render distance, spent many hours getting loot, won’t let me reupload when I try. World is under 100 mb also

Looked for global_settings.json in 1.19.0.05 for Android but did not find it.

I cant upload my 600mb+ World from switch to my realms I want to play my world on xbox for better render distance and performance but it keeps crashing my Switch so I cant play

I made a world with experimental features hoping to make a server for the summer. I bought a realm yestarday but it won't let me upload the world. I keep getting "error has occured". I've tried with different worlds that dont have experimental features and all of those work. I've tried removing the texture packs, changing the name, restarting xbox and minecraft and reseting realm but none of it has worked. I only bought the realm so I could use this specific world.

I have 1.19.0 on iOS and upload always reports "An error occurred." I've made two 2-person realms. The first one didn't even show up under the list of realms until I rebooted so that's its own bug. The second one did show up pre-reboot but uploads always report the error in both realms. I did set use-libhttpclient-at-launch to True (with Minecraft not running then started it afterwards) but the error is still reported.
But here's the punch line: the upload actually worked! When I join the realm the world is there. The thumbnail in the slots don't reflect the world, though. Maybe that takes time to update?
Anyway, after setting the flag in the json file to True I did this:
Clicked "Play"
Clicked the pencil on the world I want on the realm
Clicked "Play on Realm"
Clicked on the realm I wanted
Clicked on a slot
Clicked "Confirm" for "Replace World?"
Waited for the "An error occurred" message and clicked "Ok"
Exited the Edit World page
Back on the "Worlds" list clicked the realm I selected above
Success
So this bug isn't fixed - the upload works (for me) but the UI says it doesn't.

I'm glad to hear this is in progress, hoping for another status update soon. I have a 480mb+ world on my switch I want to export to my PS5 for the same reasons others have mentioned.
Since the last update on this issue says the fix will be trialed after 1.19 is released, I hope this is coming soon so I can continue playing my long term survival world!!

1.19.2 for Switch is out and when trying to export my world to realms 600mb+ it still crashes the Game i cant play on my xbox because of that so annoying

I am reporting a successful upload of a 300 MB world in Windows 11.
I needed to do some additional work for my successful upload.
1. set use-libhttpclient-at-launch to True.
2. Set the "Speed & Duplex" setting on the network adapter to "100Mbps HalfDuplex"
3. Launch Minecraft v1.19.2.
4. Upload the world to Relams.
(I'm not good at English so I use translation tools)

I'm on Windows 10, I've tried to upload my world (306.4MB with experiments & addons) a few times today, but I've had no luck. I get the same 'An Error Occurred' screen, and neither my world or addons are uploaded. I'll keep trying a bit more, and send another comment if anything changes.
Edit: I've tested two different worlds with experiments and addons one world i was previously able to upload (in 1.17), and I'm not able to with the new HTTP library.

After some experimentation, I've found some things. When i create a brand new world, it uploads perfectly. If i then add experiments, EDU, and packs to that world, it also uploads great. However, I cannot upload a much larger world (originally made in 1.18) with the exact same experiments on it (but with different packs). I've tried three worlds which are all similar to each other, one made in 1.17, two others made in 1.18, and all three of those will give the 'An Error Occurred' screen when trying to upload them. I've used worlds with different sizes aswell, ranging from 10MB to around 400MB, all from older versions, with no luck.

Updated to 1.19.10. Tried to do a few uploads, of a few different worlds, no luck.
edit: success! I've had success uploading one of my testing worlds! It's just over 400mb, and it was made in 1.16 originally. However, this seemed to be a one time thing for this world, after trying again, i am unable to upload it a second time.
second edit: I'm happy to report another successful upload. It seems the issue may have been me having gametest packs on them, with gametest not being enabled on realms currently.

As a work-around, using a VPN has completely gotten rid of the problem (my realm is huge, around 1.5g now). We shouldn't need to pay for something extra to work on our realms though!

Interesting! I'll give that a try!
Edit: wasn't able to upload anything successfully
Device: PC / Windows 10

Still not working. Trying to upload a world on my android Samsung Note 20, with a world thats 169mb roughly, and no addons, purely vanilla world. Multiple attempts still nothing but "error has occured"s even on the new network stack 'if it is supposedly enabled'. Internet isnt the issue as my upload speeds reach almost 100mbps.

When attempting to upload world to Realms it will rename the realm but fail when uploading.
World Export finished successfully message appears but hangs on Initializing Upload.
Then displays "An Error Occurred" message.,

I after a while of searching found the problem of all this, the comments in the file of "manifest.json" (both in resources and in behaviors), in case such are deleted (the slashes and all the line) then everything will work without any errors.

Cannot upload an existing world to my realm. July 2022 on an Xbox One X with all the latest updates. I tried uploading it to a blank slot and replacing a world–neither worked. Got the blank "initializing upload" bar followed by the error.

I've tested removing packs from a few of my worlds that do not upload, It did fix the issue for some, but for others the issue is still active.
On a few worlds I've tested, the world has had gametest packs, but others didn't. After removing all packs, I've only had about a 75% success rate, not being able to upload the world I've been wanting to for some time.
Aside from removing all packs form worlds in-game, I've also edited the world files of some; Removing all pack UUIDs from it's history files, and removing all pack files, with some success.
I've had absolutely no issues with uploading worlds that only have resource packs on them, or have very little behavior packs, aside from the main world I've been trying & wanting to upload.
Device: Windows 10
more info on unsuccessful worlds: Experiments are enabled (Holiday Creator Features, Spectator Mode, & Gametest Framework) It does have addons packs (but is still unsuccessful if I remove them all). Its just under 400MB in size. Some game settings; things like firetick are off, random tick speed is set at 5 I believe, but nothing else out of the ordinary.
Also, my world was originally created in early 1.18, is that matters at all.
I’ve had some success with similar experiments and sizes, but I’ve had absolutely no success with the world mentioned above, even after removing all packs and the like.
Reply from @unknown: What are the characteristics of the worlds you are unable to upload, particularly any differences relative to ones that are successful? (Size, game settings, use of particular features, add-ons, anything else.)

For everyone still struggling and subscribed to this issue: I WAS able to upload a world on Xbox. On my wired 200mbps internet it didn't work. On my 5Ghz Wi-Fi with the same speed it didn't work. But when I turned on my phone's hotspot (Pixel 5a, T-mobile) and used the slow mobile data, for some reason it worked perfectly. So if you haven't tried that, give it a shot.
For the record, for some reason my wired internet had ipv4 only, strict NAT, and no uPnP, but my Wi-Fi had ipv4 and ipv6, open NAT, all services operational. Don't know why but the point is I tried both of those, neither worked, but phone data for some reason did work.

U have to deleted all ur addons and texture packs from the file of the world

I haven't posted on this ticket for a while, but I've noticed a few things lately. FYI I'm on PS4.
First, if you're getting a message like "Could not package the world, maybe you're out of space?" (I'm not on it now, but it's something like that), deleting the game - not your save data obviously, just the game - and re-installing seems to get rid of that error.
The error I run into is "An error occurred", but every time I see that, it actually did upload. The only time I can't get it to upload is with the first not-enough-space error.

Now that the new network stack is active for all Android devices, I wondered if world DOWNloads from Realms would start working for me (MCPE-42091). Unfortunately nothing changed.

I made a new world and was able to upload that, but the one I am wanting to play on realms will not load.
The one I am trying to upload to realms is
19.0 MB, with no skins and no datapacks/resources.
I am hoping this gets fixed, I would like to keep my realm subscription, but no point in resubscribing if the main feature is unavailable.

This is not working. I did a whole workaround from the description before about downloading a Jayson app on iOS, then paying for mobile Minecraft to upload via iPhone. That did work then but now that description has been deleted. For some reason my realm expired and I can't simply start it back up it's having me start a new realm and now having to deal with this issue again.
Come on Microsoft, get it together. This should be one of the main functionalities of Minecraft.
Please respond to this with a workaround. On most current version of Windows and still not working as of 7.24.22.
I've had to start up multiple realms, paid for another version of Minecraft just to get lucky 1 out of 50 times to upload a 3 year old world. This is ridiculous and I should get my money back.

I tested 70MB, 250MB, 500MB, 1GB, 2.1GB maps, and all of them were unable to upload.
However, very small maps (eg 0.1MB) were successfully uploaded.
(I have already removed all resource packs and behavior packs.)

It was working for me before 1.19, 142MB world was uploading from Xbox series x and Android with a few hiccups but persistence seemed to force it through. Now 1.19.10 and a 78.5MB world I spent most of a 3 day weekend working on on the Xbox refuses to upload no matter what I try, copying the world, renaming the copy, nothing that worked before does now from Microsoft's own game console. Still works with a bit of forcing from android, but does me no good when I want to continue the world I spent the weekend on during down time at work

No luck on the main world I've been trying to upload, after updating to 1.19.11.
Device: Windows 10
Experiments: Spectator Mode, Gametest Framework, Holiday Creator Features
Packs: Multiple Behavior packs & Resource packs, one Gametest pack (Upload unsuccessful if all packs are removed from the world file)
Size: 304.4MB
Created originally in 1.18.

Update, after 2 and a half days trying my world finally uploaded. From my experience, multiple repeated upload attempts seems to make it less likely to upload. However, it was also immediately after an ad popped up when I opened the game that it uploaded with no issues. This leads me to believe that it is solely a server side latency issue causing uploads to fail.

Uploads are working for me now, every time, with no error message. I'm curious if the marketplace update on Tuesday is related to that or if it's just coincidental timing. Either way I am grateful

So, after waiting patiently for 1.19(.11) to come out, and hoping to believe that it was actually a fixable client side issue, I was disappointed to find that it still doesn't work 😞 I am 100% sure it's not on my network side, I have FiOS 1GBE, hardwire ethernet to the ONT, consistently speed tests 890+mbit up and 950+ mbit down.
I did stumble on a blog post from last year (about the time I started having issues) explaining that Realms was migrated from AWS to Azure (https://developer.microsoft.com/en-us/games/blog/how-minecraft-realms-moved-compute-storage-from-aws-to-azure/) and found it interesting to see that they load the old world from AWS/S3 but write changes (probably also uploads) to Azure Blob Storage. I'm pretty sure that my account is somehow tied to this migration mechanism, since the DNS lookup the game makes before trying to upload is realms-production-{*}archive{*}.eastus2.cloudapp.azure.com
(an alias for {*}archive{*}-pocket-production-us-east-1.realms.minecraft.net
) emphasis on archive added – I originally signed up for realms on PE, years ago, to migrate my then "Classic" world from an ancient iPad to PC. Whatever this server is, is behaving badly with TCP/IP - all sorts of out of order acks, looks like it's out of memory or swap space or something.
I am tempted to cancel my subscription (from Apple) and reactivate it through the Microsoft store, to see if I get assigned a different server...
I canceled my Apple-based subscription and signed up through the Minecraft UI (Microsoft Subscription), but the game is still using archive-pocket-production-us-east-1.realms.microsoft.net 😞 so either (a) there is some flag set in my xbox live account, or (b) everyone is using the archive-pocket-production server(s). Guess I'll cancel the new subscription as well, until there is better news here...
Ahha! After some more digging, I now think that the "archive" was a red herring - there is some (unofficial) API documentation on the realms REST API that includes sample URLs with this pattern; the "archive" has to do with the game file management servers, which store save files while you're not actively connected and playing (see https://developer.microsoft.com/en-us/games/blog/migrating-minecraft-realms-from-aws-to-azure/). Seeing that REST API and reading about migrating from S3 to blob storage got me thinking - Azure Blob has a rate limit of 60Mb/s per blob object (see https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/storage/blobs/scalability-targets ), with a note on their docs that says:
When your application reaches the limit of what a partition can handle for your workload, Azure Storage begins to return error code 503 (Server Busy) or error code 500 (Operation Timeout) responses. If 503 errors are occurring, consider modifying your application to use an exponential backoff policy for retries. The exponential backoff allows the load on the partition to decrease, and to ease out spikes in traffic to that partition.
Going from that, and assuming that the Realms servers were never enhanced to support application-side exponential retry (because the S3 SDK does it for you) - I added a rate-limiter to the 52.242.86.73 ip address (my archive server) of 25MB/s in my router and BAM! It worked!
I will continue to test, but I do believe that the cause of at least some of these errors on the new network stack is internet that is *too* fast, saturating the Azure Blob, causing the Realms API server to freak out and the upload to fail.
It would be great if the Realms team can investigate this 😉

Upload speed too fast causing "an error occurred" is fully reproducible for me, and has a rough break point around 5MiB/s or 40Mbit/s. Speeds above this consistently fail, speeds below consistently succeed.
Environment
Windows 10 pro (19044.1826)
Minecraft Bedrock 1.19.11 (7/26/22)
World size: 193MB, no mods, survival
Realms Service:
pocket.realms.minecraft.net
->{{ archive-pocket-production-us-east-1.realms.minecraft.net}}
->realms-production-archive.eastus2.cloudapp.azure.com
->{{ 52.242.86.73}}
Procedure
Bandwidth limit set via PFSense router.
Create a new traffic limiter (Firewall->Traffic Shaper -> Limiters) menu, new, set to XX MBit/S, name = mctest
Create a new firewall rule (Firewall -> Rules -> Home) destination "single host" host
Assign the limiter via Advanced -> In/Out Pipe, in=mctest
Results
Speed | Result |
---|---|
250MBit/s (30MiB/s) | "An error occurred" |
100MBit/s (12MiB/s) | "An error occurred" |
75MBit/s (9MiB/s) | "An error occurred" |
50MBit/s (6MiB/s) | "An error occurred" |
25Mbit (3MiB/s) | Success "Lets Go!" |
10MBit (1.2MiB/s) | Success "Lets Go!" |
Note that the actual upload speed is only approximately limited by the router, so these number should be treated as an average rather than a hard max. Other ways of limiting bandwidth (best is client side) may succeed with faster speeds.
Discussion
Interestingly, these numbers are an order of magnitude smaller than the rate limit claimed by Azure Blob Storage - so there may be other factors at play (is there API Server buffering of incoming data, waiting a set time before opening the Azure Blob Storage connection?).
Regardless, it is clear that speed is the factor that causes the latest "An error has occurred" failure with "the new network stack"
This explains a number of the otherwise unrelated symptoms described in these comments:
small worlds work - if the world is too small to sustain bandwidth that triggers throttling, it will work as expected.
works from mobile - mobile devices tend to be limited to lower bandwidth, high latency, and many dropped packets
works when tethered to mobile hot spot - again, slowing the bandwidth (rather than having to do with firewall/ipv6)
works sometimes - when speeds are close to the threshold, intermittent success is possible depending on backend load
Do hope that the team ( @CornerHard ) can investigate this ASAP - check application and infra logs for 5xx errors in blob storage would be a good start.
I personally have a workaround but most players will not be able to sniff the network for their realms API server IP and add targeted bandwidth throttling 🙂

@theshadow27, you have the solved the problem that Mojang has been unable to solve! All, this is the answer. I have had an issue uploading my 260MB world for over a year❓ . I tried all previous hair brained schemes mentioned in this thread to no avail. Seeing other posts related to success over mobile I also suspected upload speed, but didn't have time to test it. I just downloaded a copy of NetLimiter for Windows, throttled my PC to 25Mbit/s uploads and boom, the upload was successful and world loaded. Case closed.

@theshadow27’s workaround worked for me. I used my router to limit my PC’s upload speed to 45 Mb/s, and my ~212MB world finally uploaded.

I tried out the previously mentioned work-around, got NetLimiter and tried a few different upload speeds. I saw some success! As expected, worlds I have with packs that use the Gametest Framework didn't work whatsoever, as Gametest isn't currently supported on realms, but I saw some other success. All worlds I tested (with & without add-ons) worked, the only ones that would not work were ones that have Gametest Framework packs on them, which again, is expected.

I was able to upload after limiting the line speed to 10Mbps. Thank you.

@theshadow27 aka Jacob D. - BRILLIANT 👏 that solution worked for me.
Actually, I wasn't able to limit my network upload speed via the router or client, but I connected my VPN to Kenya (I'm in nashville, TN, USA) and it worked the first try.

I cant upload my survival world to my realm

Wow I can't believe that this worked, but I had to slow my network like @theshadow27 said.
I ended up having to use a double VPN then connecting to new zealand to slow my network down enough for the upload to work.
It had to be slow, any fast VPN or no VPN would not work for the upload.
That is crazy.

Hi guys, I just wanted to share a method that helped solve my issue with uploading my realm.
For context, I play Minecraft Bedrock on the PC, and I have this world where my friends and I like to build massive structures. We've been doing this for about a couple of years now, and this is the first time I've ever considered switching it into a realm. Because it's been such a big thing we do, the world size was around 405mb, and had one or two resource packs.
For the past 3 days since I've activated my 30-day free trial for Minecraft Realms, I've been trying everything that was suggested: I've deleted and reinstalled minecraft, put on a VPN, tried a different copy of the world, turned off all resource packs, downloaded NetLimiter, and tried uploading it from my Iphone. All of these didn't work for me at all.
Turns out, my problem WAS the resource packs, except that me turning them off wasn't enough, I had to go into the minecraftWorld files and delete the resource and behavior pack folders, and all the files that began with world_resource/world_behavior, and after doing so the world loaded almost immediately! Once you've replaced the world successfully, you should be able to just re-activate all the resource packs w/ no problems. Here is a youtube video version that helped me if anyone needs visual demonstration (https://youtu.be/j1lzyojQc1o)

Hello fellow Minecraftians, first I want to say thank you. I was afraid our world was never going to make it back onto a realm, but reading these solutions on how internet speed was the issue I was able to resolve mine. I couldn't get my netlimiter to make it work, it would cause an error saying 'couldn't find a place to upload the world, check your internet maybe??'. My vpn attempts resulted in the same error occurred as usual. My solution may not be as easy to replicate for other but I browse the internet typically via my ethernet cable because gamers have to have that pretty much, and the wifi in my bedroom is hot garbage, 1 bar consistently. Unplugging my ethernet cable, using said 1 bar, I watched via NetLimited the speeds at which it was uploaded. between 90Kb/s and 1.3 Mb/s. Ya'lls posts helped me out so much I love you all for it, maybe someone could pair up this strategy with the phone upload because you can change your distance to the router, maybe I got lucky, I wish you all the best of luck and for Mojang to fix the issue so we don't have to go through this pain. Rock and Stone.

After removing all packs from my world, I was able to upload it successfully, but unable to add the packs back on afterwards.
The netlimiter work-around does not work for me for packs, if anyone finds a way to successfully upload packs, please post a comment!

Looks like there are three or four separate issues people are talking about here (and possibly more buried in the comments)
1) the problem fixed by limiting your rates
2) from the original post, the second part about not showing upload progress (but it often is actually uploading which you can see with task manager on windows and it succeeds if you wait a while for it)
3) packs preventing uploads - which might be two separate bugs, one where packs prevent uploads but you can add them later, and one where certain packs can't be applied to realms
Might need to pick which thing this report is about and split the rest off

Everyone, surprisingly, it seems to be a problem with the upload speed. As a result of limiting the speed through the netlimiter program, the upload was possible.
Remember! You should limit your upload speed to 40 MBit/s. Be careful not to get the units wrong.
(I succeeded in uploading a 2.1GB map.)

Success! After removing all packs from my world, then adding back some select packs, I was able to upload the world successfully multiple times, with no net limiter or VPN.

Behaviour an Resource packs folders are empty in my world save
upload limited to 35mb/s (am on 500 fibre)
Minecraft upload speed hits about 10mb max for about 20 seconds, then drops for a few, back up to about 8, then in-game i get the infamous "an error has occurred" error message.
I've also created a new world, all default just create, create , load in - locally. that uploads instantly.
I've checked the world I want to upload (about 188mb) there is a custom resource pack under 'My Packs' but the only active pack is 'Global Resources'
EDIT: All working - changed upload limit from 35mb/s to 3.5mb/s and it uploaded!

Tried to upload my Nintendo Switch World 600mb+ to realms. The game still just completely crash and no luck of uploading

Having no issues with my realm, everything working as indented on 1.19.20.
Device: Windows 10

I downloaded my world on 1.19.20.2 and I cant upload it. I've made progress on the downloaded so I cant just replace it or download and upload another copy.. This new copy I built in and added a mod to change the height limit to 512. I tried uploading with and without the mod. I also limited my speed to 100mb and used a double VPN, but it didn't help. I keep getting "An Error Occurred."
Edit: I limited my speed to 10mb, used a vpn and removed the height changer mod and it worked.... Does changing height not work on realms?
Edit 2: I joined, left then rejoined. I flew for like 5 seconds and it said "you were kicked from the game." how can I be kicked if its my own realm? I cant join now.

Last Bedrock Update on 08/15/2022
256 MB World, No mods, no resources packs.
I used Netlimiter to set upload speed to 3.5 Mbps and it worked!

New Realms subscriber today.
Ran into this same issue!!
Bedrock Version 1.19.20
PlayStation, iPadOS same issue.
AT&T Fiber Gigabit home network with Eero Mesh WiFi
Could not get my 68MB World uploaded after the exporting world progress bar completed.
RESOLVED BY SWITCHING TO CELLULAR HOTSPOT, LTE connection which has a slower upload speed than my home network.
Sounds like we know what they need to fix here.

Same issue as Adam for me. Resolved the same way.
My world was only 30MB, but my home internet is FAST FAST FAST
It seems iPadOS Minecraft doesn't like to upload worlds to realms if your internet is too fast. Find a way to slow it down (cellular hotspot worked for me) and it may resolve.

I've also had this issue on windows 10. After using NetLimiter (v4) to cap the upload speed for minecraft to 1MB/s, the upload completed on the very next try.
Minecraft for Windows 10 v1.19.21
I also have AT&T Gigabit Fiber.

still not working in 1.19.21

I also cannot upload my world:
Minecraft Bedrock v. 1.19.21 on Nintendo Switch
Realms - 2 player Realm server added this past week
World size 505.4 MB
Internet: Hard wired, fiber - upload speed 23.9 Mbps (note, I've tried slowing down upload speed by connecting with Mobile Hotspot but then the program always aborts right after the export process finishes - "The software was closed because an error occurred.")
I have attempted all suggestions without success
Archiving software and reloading
Renaming world to letter "a"
Removing all texture and behavior packs
Restarting console and software
Everything I try results in some sort of error and the world not being copied to Realms. Typically, I get the nondescript "An Error Occurred" message, but sometimes (especially when I try to slow down the upload speed by using a mobile hotspot), I get "The Software closed because an error occurred" message ( Hey, Mojang, did you ever think to program better error messages?).
I would greatly appreciate any advice or assistance to upload my world to Realms.

I just signed up for Realms for the purpose of upload my world there. In any case, my attempt remained the same as other unable to upload. Exporting my world easy but then get an error at the upload screen.
Info
Error: "An error occurred"
Minecraft Bedrock v. 1.19.22 on PS4 (regular)
World to upload is 60MB
Rebooted PS4 (System version 9.60)
Connect is Verizon Home Internet 5G which is fast (connection test: about 49Mbps down and 5Mbps up ) and the same error resulted.
Rebooted Mobile phone (iPhone 13 Pro, T-Mobile Provider, iOS 15.6.1)
Connect to my phone hotspot at LTE (connect test before attempting upload was about 8Mbps down & 500 kbps up). Same error and hang up at upload screen again.
Behavior Packs and Resource Packs, I have none. My game is vanilla/basic only made the game and played.
Just like everyone else I hope you can resolve this sooner than later. In the meantime have any alternative suggestions to transfer PS4 save to PC? thank you.

Cant upload world.
Info: Error: "An error ocurred", mc bedrock windows 10, world size: ~191 mb, windows 11 last version. Cannot connect to mobile hotspot.
I tried on switch and worked, my nsw connects via wifi, my pc does so with an internet repeater and ethernet. I already lost money on switch a while ago any suggestions?

I've had only success for a few weeks now. I still get the 'An error occurred' message, but even with addons (which include gametest packs) I can upload my world fine.
How I originally came to this:
I removed all resource and behavior packs from my world, and deleted the history json files aswell, then I added all of the addons back manually inside the game. After doing this, my world has had absolutely no issues with uploaded except for the error screen, even though it still uploads.
This isn't the fix for everyone, but it worked very well for me.

Hi!
Just to chime in and say that we are also having Realms upload issues, on PlayStation 4.
The thing is that we have spent years creating a family world (428MB) and it is really important to us that we can upload it. There's a 60MB world not uploading either. We want to migrate off the PS4. It's disgusting that Sony charge to grant users online multiplayer access, however, we are willing to fund a little Microsoft server space, and hopefully also support ongoing game development in the process.
We have a PS4 Pro running Minecraft v2.48 and only the Default Behaviour and Global Resource Packs. Below is our internet connection test result:
DOWNLOAD 36.6 Mbps
UPLOAD 9.10 Mbps
PING ms
ldle 18
Jitter 2
Low 16
High 22
Download 90
Jitter 18
Low 36
High 260
Upload 127
Jitter 38
Low 44
High 195
Packet Loss 0.00%
I hear what you are saying about there being more work to do for PlayStation and that you will update it (and XBox) later on, but just please don't forget us. I can and will track this issue here, on the assumption that latest information about PlayStation will be posted here alongside the other platforms.
Good luck with it all, and thank you sincerely for your ongoing work on this issue.

Ok, this update gave me so much hope only to be disappointed yet again on this bug. Tried uploading the same world (Vanilla world, no rs/bh packs, 170mb in size, survival) to the realm. A few things happened. For the first time EVER I finally see a progress bar which sparked so much excitement and hope. I used my home internet (roughly 30mb download, 5-10mb upload) had the closest success. The progress bar would reach 100% then, not suprisingly, hit with "an error has occured". Tried switching to my own internet signal, same thing, reaches 100%, still nothing. I have tried making copies and uploading those too, no luck. I tested uploading my world on a faster internet speed later (100mbs upload/download) and wouldnt even reach 25% in the progress bar and already, "an error occured". After trying again, it would put me in a loop of "Failed to find a place to upload the world. Maybe check internet connection?". Smaller worlds upload fine, but my main world doesn't budge. Seriously, all this waiting, and still no working fix.

Still unable to upload world to Realms on Minecraft Bedrock v1.19.30 on Windows 11.
I have reasonably fast internet (850 Mbps down, 890 Mbps up), the world size is approx 404 megabytes.
After the world exports, it will upload and then immediately show "An error occurred" at the end. The world slot in Realms will be updated with my uploaded world's name, but when I load into the instance it will still be the default empty world.

Same here. 1.19.30, Windows 10. 850 Mbps down, 100 Mbps up. World size around 300MB. No additional Resource or Behaviour Packs, but it has used them in the past (tried removing them and history.json files but that didn't make any difference).
Exports fine. Upload typically gets to between 20MB to 40MB (different each attempt) through, then it pauses for around 10-20 seconds. It then continues all the way to the end, but the instant it gets to the end of the progress bar it says "An error has occurred", and the world is not present on the Realm. I wonder if that long pause is when the error is occurring?
Is there no logging or anything that can show us WHAT the error was?
Tried various older versions of the world, going right back to the start of it around a year ago when it was closer to 20MB and it doesn't upload either. They definitely used to upload fine! Some other worlds (but not all) upload fine.

I'm on bedrock client 1.19.30 IF the world size is under 10MB I am able to upload just fine worlds over 10MB fail at the end of the file getting to 100% of the upload size.

I am on Bedrock XBox One X, started a new Realm service 2 weeks ago and have a world that is 980mb. For two weeks I receive an Error Occured while trying to upload this world to the Realm. Nothing I've tried will help. I do have fast Internet, 500mb. I have disconnected ethernet from back of XBox and rebooted it then turned on my phone as a hotspot and connected to it. Then launched MC, attempted to upload the world to the Realm again, after 10 min, same issue: Error Occured. I am unable to upload ANY world to my new Realm service. At this point I am going to cancel Realms... I can't use it.
Other Attempts to Fix: I've also installed Bedrock on my PC and signed in. However, no cloud saves of my worlds appear, so I can't launch it to Realms from the PC either.
Secondary Issue: Recently, about the past month, I've noticed that about 80% of the time when I exit and save the MC world it will save it but then gives an error when uploading to the Cloud. I select Retry and it tries again then the error goes away, leading me to believe it was successful.
In the end, I can't upload ANY world to the new realm service. I can't get consistent world saves to the Cloud. I can't access ANY saved worlds from PC Bedrock when signed in as same Gamer Tag,
In the case of the Realm load on XBox, after it errors out, Error Occured, and I exit that menu, it will as others reported load the Seed to Realms, but as an unvisited world, not my saved world on the XBox.
Mojang please fix this... It's so frustrating.
Thank you.
DarthDad

I just got the Realm plus on windows 10, and tried to upload a ps5 world:
I had a few errors and the better I got was the name of my world, but I'm unable to conect to it.
Now I can't switch the slot, I can't reset the world, I can't even close the realm, both on ps5 and neither on windows 10, I CAN'T DO ANYTHING!!!. Everything I try i get an error (the image is on pt-br, but the message means: "Failed to close the realm").
Even if I try to reset the world or change the slot i'm unable, so i have a 30 days PAID subscption and can't even play. That's is at least unacceptable.
It's possible to at least cancel that subscription???? Or can I force somewhat RESET OR CLOSE the realm/world?

I was able to work around this issue by slowing my internet connection.

@Bradley Herdman, I wish that had worked for me. I unplugged XBox from my fast ethernet, restarted the XBox. Then turned on hotspot, via 5G on my cell phone, and connected XBox to that signal (my phone was not connected to my wifi) and tried this again. The process took 4x longer to execute (load world to Realm) but in the end, same result "Error Occured". I'm glad it worked for you at least.

Confirmed still an issue on iOS 16.1/Bedrock 1.19.40
Can't "reset" world
Can't "replace" world

The issue seems to have intensified after 1.19.40. Market place worlds(tested on various devices/Internets) don't upload. I get "Error Uploading world" every time.

News about this bug?

We just installed the realm, the latest version of Minecraft is 1.19.41, we are trying to replace the world, the weight of the world is 1.5 gigabytes, the Internet speed is within 100 megabits per second, after the download is complete, an "error" window appears with the ok button, Windows 10 platform, there may be a problem in size world, can it be somehow reduced?

So we are now on 1.19.41.01, and still not working. I repurchased realms, attempted to upload my world of 167mb~ and a few things happened. First try, the world would begin uploading, reach the end, and the infamous "an error occured" message appears. After trying a second time, I would get put in a loop where the world no longer wants to upload, and begin recieving the "failed to find a place to upload the world" message consistently. The world is completly vanilla, nothing special. How long will this take? Its getting ridiculous. I just wanna make my world open to my friends without me having to host.

My friend is having the same problem. PS5 Bedrock. We have a group of 8 playing and the world is 980mb. Decided it was easier to get realms plus so it could live on the server instead of him needing to leave on his system..... but just as all other have said here he has been unable to upload the world and gets the same errors as everyone else..... pretty sad to see how long others have going w/out being about to use the service everyone is paying for. Hope there is a fix soon.

Issue occuring for me now when uploading world from Android. Uploading the same world from a PC worked for me however. The world from Android was the same world around 30 minutes gameplay earlier than the version uploaded from the PC.

So I've been trying to update the texture/resource packs on one of my realms on PC and have once again run into the same issues of it not working. It was the same realm I had issues with when this bug first happened back in August. It just stops mid-uploading at 'an error occurred' then I get the 'can't find a place to put the world' thing. Resetting the world I was going to use as a spare in case of things breaking now can't be uploaded to, it keeps giving me errors. The updated version of the world I wanted to upload had experimental features enabled for one of the resource packs/add-ons, but that didn't work, and a copy I have without experimental features turned on also failed. A vanilla world with no resource packs also failed. Attempting to update just the resource packs from the Realm also fails. Restarting Minecraft also doesn't fix it. Minecraft is updated to 1.19.51. This is super frustrating to deal with and I really want this fixed bc it's just so tiring to deal with every time I need to update my realm.
eta: I can play on the realm just fine as it is, but I am simply unable to upload a new version with updated texture/resource packs.

Hello,
I haven't been able to download a copy of my realm or upload a backup for more than a month. it's really frustrating to play like this, especially for a paid service. We don't know when and if it will resolve. Please fix it or give us a partial refund.
[media]

I signed a new realm to try to solve it but the bug continues... Then I reactivated the old realm and it wasn't activated even though I paid. I asked for a refund for the new realm but it is still active today, even though it was refunded... My world is 740 MB. It is very frustrating not being able to use a service that I paid to use. And even more frustrating is the delay for mojang to fix the bug.

I recently bought a realm and my 400MB world uploaded just fine the first time, but everytime I tried to download and reupload the world after that, I get "an error occurred." The thing is, if I just click okay on the error and join my realm, it does actually upload. I didnt limit my speed(my download is 800Mb and upload is 20Mb). It happens everytime I upload. I get the error, but it does actually upload the world.
I am on Windows 10 Edition version 1.19.51

Hi there,
i have the same issue on my Switch, Minecraft Version 1.19.51. My 890 MB world just wont upload to my realm. Minecraft crashes after the upload-ribbon gets to around 60%. Tried every fix i found on the internet, like for example archiving, deleting and redownloading the software.
As i also get the error of "not having enough space on my Switch, although there is plenty of empty space available" MCPE-36670 this is very very annoying.

I’m trying to upload a world I’ve worked on as a realm. I want to do it before tomorrow. As I’ve been building up so much excitement for it. But it keeps saying “an error occurred” but I don’t get it?? Everything I read says “you can make a realm with mods.” I’ve made a realm before with mods. I even joined one with mods. I tried removing all the mods on the world but I’m still getting an error. It’s only about 18mb I’m so confused.

Wow… didn’t take long to delete my last comment. Mere minutes. You watching these comments like a hawk, but let the issues linger months while taking our money for a product that doesn’t work?

Since the end of September 2022 I have been having serious problems with realms on xbox series s. My world weighs 740mb, my internet speed is 300mb and I can upload newly created worlds to realms but not my main world. I've already subscribed to 3 or 4 different realms to try to resolve this. I'm very scared of the possibility of losing my world.

POSSABLE REASON FOR ISSUE?? noticed world size is 203.7mb. When uploading to the realm it shrink to 180.2mb, fails. Attempt again at 180.2mb (2nd attempt) hit cancel and then attempt to upload again (3rd attempt) it shrunk again to 178.4mb and would not even attempt to load that copy again. When I open it locally (after 3rd attempt) it increased back to 186.1mb after save (no movement no game play). Also when loading the progress bar is always all green / no visualization on how far its getting until error occurs. Why is the file size shrinking when attempting to upload? Could something related to an executable being lost when attempting to upload? Why did canceling cause all future attempts for that same file to not even try? (bedrock xbox series X on 2/13/22 @ 10:00pm cst)

I'm interested in uploading my PlayStation game using the Realms Service. I see on January 22nd PlayStation is on your new network stack, great. Quickly after that you mention next week or two you're planning to switch PlayStation to another new network stack to improve upload success even further.
My question is has PlayStation been moved to your newest network stack yet? Additionally, has anyone been able to upload on PlayStation network? I hesitate to try for myself because I've already wasted money before only to be greeted with "An error occurred" without any chance of a refund.
Thank you and patiently waiting for a fix.

Having the same issue, not being allowed to import a world to the realm that was just previously exported from the same realm server. It allows the initial importing, however, after a full upload session is finished a additional window with a prompt “an error has occurred“ the world in question has less than 4 GB of data associated with it, so very unsure on why the error keeps occurring. All textures have been eliminated, except for the standard, as well as the program has been updated to the latest version, and the program has been closed and reset, as well as the PC has been reset multiple times, and every instruction that has been given has been utilized without any changes to the error that keeps occurring

Hi
I can't judge if this is related to this bug. However, I have to report that I cannot even create a subscription to Realms Plus on my PS4 Pro. My Minecraft Bedrock version v1.19.70. I have never had Realms Plus server, never joined one and I am currently trying to create one to migrate world(s) from PS4 to PC. I have PS Plus service subscription (essential tier), I have the PS4 connected to the internet with a cable, I can log into PS store and browse it, I have my Microsoft account linked to the Minecraft account and still receiving the error message that 'Your device lost connection to the store and we cannot confirm this offer is still available. Please check your internet connection or try again later.'
It's pretty annoying it takes like 2 months to fix it (and it still seems untouched) given the Realms Plus propaganda is blinking on me on every other screen in Minecraft.

Someone in the Minecraft Discord server had an issue uploading their world to their realm. They were using Minecraft for Windows. I suggested to them that they should try using a VPN. It appears that the first one that they tried did not work. I did not respond to them, as I was running errands. But they responded less than an hour later that they used NordVPN to resolve the issue. It appears that they were able to successfully upload the world to their realm using this VPN method.

I have some light to shine on my recent problems with this. So we havent had an update on this issue and I was beginning to get desperate, so I tried to spend some time to figure out what the issue actually was on my end. My world, of approx. ~165mb, was my main world I was trying to upload. Good internet (400mbs⬇️10mbs⬆️) and the world is on android. At first, the world would show the progress bar, but once it reaches the end, "an error occured" and no world was uploaded, even after multiple attempts. Now I went and connected my phone to my home PC to check the file system on android as you can only access the 'internalstorage/android/data' folder on pc. I then looked for the com.mojang folder for minecraft. Once I was in, I checked the world files, and realized that there were some resource packs attached to the world, even though in game it revealed that there were 0. I deleted all resource packs in the resource pack folder, and made sure there were no behavior packs as well, and also renamed the main world folder (it was a bunch of random letters at first). Then I disconnected my phone and logged back into MC. Once I was in, I re-attempted to upload the world. Again, the progress bar showed successfully, but once it got to the end, "an error occured", BUT I checked the world to see if it truly failed, but it UPLOADED. So it seems if packs were applied to a world at some point, they will remain there even though in-game, there is nothing applied. For those still struggling to upload big worlds on Android or PC, I suggest: checking the world files (NOT IN-GAME) to make sure there are no beh/res packs in them, and rename the world folder (just try it), then attempt to upload it. If it gives "an error occured", wait a few seconds then check the world to see if it uploaded. If not, retry again (if you get stuck in the "Can't find a place to upload world" screen/loop, use a vpn and try again, as it seems as if your network gets "banned" to reupload or something. I managed to successfully upload the world on the first try after doing that on my main home network. For those on iOS or Console: i dont have a clear solution on how to check the file system for iOS, but if you know how, check the world folder, same on Playstation.
Good luck!

Still a problem on both Xbox series X and PS5.
Took about 20 attempts to finally get a 1gb world onto realms on Xbox after continual Error messages., this was back in Dec 22.
PS5 is not working at all with a 300mb game. Just keep getting "Error" pop up after upload is finished, then the game disconnects from realms. Have to re-boot the game to see realms again. Now paying for a realm I cant use. This is as of today 28th Apr 23.
Not sure what the point of Minceraft on console is anymore. Realms are broken, and even in a local game it just corrupts after 1gb.

So I tried to upload my world to a realm. It seems not to work. When trying to upload it shows that it uploads the files slow then it shows it uploading the world to a realm. But it its uploading world to realm it finishes right away but it stalls at 100% then it says a error has a occurred, then nothing happens. So i saw this thread on here I did what it says but nothing it still doesnt work. So I tried the old delete game reinstall and try again. That was a bad idea, cause now my world is now gone is now replaced with a random world that i never made. The photo here shows a random world from that I never made. Its the 3rd world with odd date and world name. This is on Xbox seirs X
[media]
Why is it still not resolved after waiting so long? Please fix it as soon as possible.
When I try to replace an existing world with Realms, it succeeds with a world of about 20MB, but when I try to replace a world of 33.3MB it says "An error has occurred". I have tried rebooting many times.

Having the same error here. To add my 2 cents on the scenario I am facing:
I have the game installed on both PS4 and PC
No issues when Uploading a World from the PC
However, when doing it from PS4 I am having this same error for a couple of Worlds
It works when uploading smaller worlds (30 MB and /or 60 MB)
Get to this error when trying a "bigger" world (the desired one, with 90 MB)
My internet connection is considered fast and speed tests usually return 500+ Mbps for downloads and 100Mbps for uploads
PS4 is connected through LAN, using a CAT 7 cable.
I don't know why, but to upload this 90 MB world, the game calculates a 17.6 MB of files to be uploaded. Doesn't matter, just as curiosity.
Another thing I do not understand is that my upload speed in the console (PS4) is getting up to 50 Mbps in the connection tests instead of the 100 Mbps obtained from my PC (which uses Wi Fi instead of the LAN cable used by the PS4). No restrictions in the LAN configuration like firewall, band limit, blocked ports etc.
Anyway, to upload this 17.6 MB, it should take 5s, worst case. However, I am getting more than 3 mins to upload it.
Potentially, it is related to the commits in the server
Also was trying, on my side, to improve the upload speed. Considering that smaller worlds were quicker and successfully uploaded, I thought it could be some tomeout issue. So, reducing the time spent on the upload could solve it in my case.
Unfortunately, I cannot change the upload limit to reach 200, 300 or even 500 Mpbs. It is limited by the internet providing service.
Tried to change DNS servers configured in my LAN and PS4. No significant change on it (improved up to 10% only).
Considering the latest update to this ticket, I understand that it should be solved between Jan and Feb 2023... but still not working for many. Looking forward to the updates, hopefully this year yet...? 😃

Are you really working on solving this problem? I don't know how hard it is to solve this problem, but I think it's taking too long. I have been struggling with this issue for a long time. First and foremost, I wish you all the best in addressing and resolving this issue. I hope. good luck. 👍

I just brought a 2 player realms subscription and can't upload my 1.3g world it just says "hard drive is full" even tho I have deleted every other world. Is there a fix to this??

End of July 2023 and still having this issue on PS4. Get an error that the world couldn’t be packed and maybe the hard drive is full even though the hard drive has tons of space. I’m also hardwired into my internet so it’s not a connection issue. Tried uploading to realms via the “replace world” feature and error. Tried uploading the world via “play on realms” feature and error. Tried closing minecraft and reopening and still error. Tried closing realm and reactivating and still get error. Tried uploading different size worlds and still get error. Treod uploading at different times of day and error. Tried resetting all the worlds on realm… you guessed it.. error. Nothing seems to work. Is there any updates on when this will be fixed? Or just any updates in general since the last one in January?!? Realms is a paid service so shouldn’t it get priority on bug fixes? How do we get our money back for a service that doesn’t work? What exactly is the monthly fee for if the realms feature doesn’t work properly and the bug issue seems to be ignored since January?

Minecraft Bedrock / PS4 - I'm trying to access Realms, as I just recently purchased a 10player one, however realms has been disconnecting me so I am unable to launch, play or join other realms. When I join my own personal realm, I get disconnected (blue screened). This has been an ongoing issue for well over a month now. I would like to be able to enjoy the new 1.20 features. Is there an ETA on when this will be fixed?

I am having the exact same issues as everyone else. I have only one world that was made on the PS5 that I want to upload to realms. I have great internet, realms plus subscription, and a 2 tb M.2 SSD upgrade. When I attempt to upload the world the "exporting world" status bar almost fills up then states "failed to pack world for export. Maybe your hard drive is full?". I have 200gb free on the main SSD and 1TB on the expanded storage so I don't know what is going on. I have tried everything which includes backing up my saved data to the cloud, deleting the save data and app off the PS5, re-downloading the game then the save data, constantly trying to upload it after restarting the game or system. If I use the world that is on the Realm (default just made a new world) it works fine but as soon as I save and quit that fresh realm world I cannot go back to realms as it cant retrieve the realm data and forces me to restart the game. Also it takes about on average three time of restarting the game for the store to be available as most of the time is states "invalid session try restarting the game" when I hover over the store icon on the main menu. Another weird thing is that the Store icon used to have little animations on it now its just a plain old grey button like play and settings.

Newly subscribed to Realm Plus a week ago and already encountered this issue.
Whenever I tried to download, replace, reset, the game gave me "An error occurred"
Happened on both PC (Ethernet cable with stable 500mb/s connection) and Android (wi-fi in different networks).
Biggest world size is ~100mb.
P.S. Turns out this issue exist for a few years, no offense but this really make me doubt the Realm Team's efforts on this issue. Charging a monthly fee for the best selling game of all time AND unable to fix a three-year-long issue, this is just discouraging.

I know there’s been a lot of recent Minecraft updates. Has anyone had any new luck with being able to upload your world to realms without getting an error? I keep getting the “hard drive is full” error even though it’s not. Wondering if others are still getting the same errors after all the recent updates.

Recently purchased Realms Plus to export my XBOX world to PC but I have been getting the "An error occured" bug when i try to upload my 380MB world. Uploading works for my smaller 132MB size world. My Xbox Series S has 63 GBs of free space on it. I have gigabit internet but my xbox is connected to my router via WiFi. I really hope this gets fixed soon because i already can't cloud save my worlds due to a "quota".

On the PS5, I tried to upload to realms. I have great internet, realms plus subscription, and 500+ Gbs of free space. When I attempt to upload a 60- 300 Mb world the "exporting world" status bar almost fills up then states "failed to pack world for export. Maybe your hard drive is full?". I don't know what is going on. I have tried everything. Prior to the last set of 1.20 bedrock updates, I successfully exported 3 worlds to my PC. I CANCELED my realms subscription.
I contacted PlayStation Game Support via email, and I asked whose problem was the realms bug. PlayStation Game Support said it was Mojang issue, not theirs.
2023/11/16, i successfully exported worlds on my PS5, and I downloaded them to my PC. It appears Realms are working once again.

I'm playing on iOS, but I get an error when I try to replace the world. Only the world name has been changed, and the contents remain in the early days.

Adding a +1 to the many people experiencing this. Trying to upload a 715MB world from my Xbox One that I made in 2019 to realms so I can download it to PC and preserve it. My Xbox is only getting older, I'm worried about eventually experiencing the notorious cloud desync problems or save corruption in general, and frankly I just want to be able to have my world files and be able to actually back them up myself, not just make copies on the same aging system. My fault for using a system that doesn't let me access my own data, but whatever, lesson learned. Anyways, I try to upload the world, and the export works fine (as far as I can tell), but then the upload progress bar goes really fast - like 100 megaBYTES / sec fast - my internet is not nearly that capable. The Xbox is connected to my router via an ethernet cable, btw. AT&T, usually get 30-50Mbps download and 5-20 Mbps upload. After the progress bar shows that the full file has been "uploaded" (which only takes several seconds at these inaccurate speeds), it sits there for ~15 minutes before failing with the "An error occurred" message. I have tried to upload the world probably 20 times now, and after I started timing the attempts I've found that the time to failure is approximately 15 minutes every single time after the upload starts.
Some other notes:
My realm subscription is the lower tier, myself +2 players.
Sometimes the file size in the upload bar is off by 0.1MB either too large or too small. Ex: Let's say the world is 715.6MB, the progress bar might say that it has uploaded 715.7MB, or other times 715.5MB. Other times though it is right on.
The file size is also not always consistent when I try to upload it. I'd say it can vary by about +/- 1 MB from upload attempt to upload attempt. Sometimes it might say the full file size it needs to upload is 714.9 MB, other times 715.something.
The world loads up and plays just fine in singleplayer from the locally stored copy.
I have successfully uploaded a small test world (~2.5MB) from my Xbox to the realm.
I have also successfully uploaded a 600MB world from my PC to the realm. The PC was plugged into ethernet, same conditions as the Xbox when it's plugged in. The progress bar moved at a much more reasonable pace. This upload took about 11 minutes, and then it sat there for about another 1.5 (which I suppose was step 3 listed in CornerHard's comment at the top of this page). After that I got the "Let's Go!" button and all seemed fine.
The world has no resource packs. Since the beginning of the world it has been 100% vanilla Minecraft.
I have tried the mobile hotspot workaround on my Xbox. It failed (not that my regular internet speeds are blazing fast to begin with). Even when connected via hotspot (about 3Mbps download and upload) the upload progress bar still moved at about 100MB/s and then sat there for 15 minutes before failing, as before.
Realms in general seems to just not work for me. In addition to this problem, I also cannot even close the realm. When I try to do so (either on my Xbox or my PC), it spins for about 20 seconds before telling me "Unable to connect to Realm. / Failed to close realm." I've tried this probably ten times now between today and yesterday.
I also cannot use the "Activate world" button (though it was working yesterday, not sure what changed). Now when I try to activate one of the two worlds that isn't the current one, it will pull up "Fetching realm information ..." and then sit there forever. Strangely though, if I use "Edit world" on one of the currently inactive ones, it will fetch the realm information very quickly, pull up the edit menu, and then when I back out that world will be the active one. So I just don't know. Many problems with this service. I just want to be able to back this one world up and then I can finally move on from my Xbox.
I started the realms subscription yesterday afternoon. Same problems tonight as yesterday, aside from the Activate World button also not working now.

I was able to successfully upload my world on a brand new realms account. Reactivating my old account didn’t work as I would still get error messages and be unable to upload anything. So maybe it’s a glitch with existing realms accounts?

Hey, I'm wondering if Mojang made any progress in fixing this. As of 17th of Jan. 2024 Realms uploads on bigger worlds still doesn't work for me and I have gigabit internet. FYI I play on an Xbox Series S and the world size is 380MB. For some reason the progress bar indicates the world size is ~363MB and every time I try to upload it the size always changes in the progress bar, but not in the Worlds menu.

Getting the error on a Realm that has all of the addons from the marketplace applied (as of this date) with barely any chunks etc explored. This issue and the REALMS-10030 bug is making me want to cancel my Realm. It's utterly pointless offering a service that has amazing features like downloading realm backups that don't even work and haven't been working for 7 YEARS! Why are we paying for a service that we don't even get full use of???

This is truly the worst type of issue to come across. A comment section filled with people simply saying "I have the same problem". And yet here I am contributing towards it. I have a world that I downloaded after I didn't want to pay for a realm for a while And when I went to re upload it it no longer works. It is the only world I have that has this issue, all the others upload just fine. I hope this is fixed soon, but seeing that this original post was from 2017 doesn't fill me with confidence.

I was going to write this comment on November 16th, 2024, but I felt it wasn't useful. Now I have re-encountered this bug, even while trying to bypass it using an iPhone Hotspot.
Original below//
I have this issue, and I have resolved it using the iPhone Hotspot work-around.
When I had problems: Xbox One X, 923.6MB world. Abundant free gigabytes on the Xbox and in Minecraft world storage (I deleted multiple world-copy backups to make room, just in case). 7Mbps upload speed, 0% packet loss, 55ms ping. This world has had a texture pack applied before, and according to other comments this might be a factor. I've tried several different internet connections (including with Ethernet connection to router) with the same results each time. Around 10+ failed attempts.
*my solution:*, I connected to my smartphone hotspot (wireless) with 9Mbps up, and it somehow worked. I also reapplied the texture pack and un-applied it before this, but I doubt that was the solution. Unfortunately I did not single out these two factors to determine which solution was the key. I just wanted my realm, and thankfully I got it to work.

I recently tried to upload my 945MB world (same world) using nearly identical conditions but in Minecraft Preview v1.21.0.24. For some reason, the upload workaround I have been using did not seem to work in Preview (tried twice). I then added and unadded the classic resource pack (which I don't think is even downloaded on this app), played on the world for about a minute, and tried again. For some reason this caused it to work.

I am currently experiencing this problem. My only world, which I've been playing for months, is in realms, and I can barely access it without internet. It takes around 300mb. Game on Android 14 (MIUI 14), from Poco X5 Pro. My internet is wifi, 4g
Update: The same thing happened while I was trying to download the map on my computer, Windows 11

im am experiencing this problem myself with only a 90MB world
but i feel a little better knowing that SOMETING is being done at least
would like an update as to when this update fix my come out

I have had this problem for months now, on iOS.
Even after manually copying the world-folder to another device, trying again with a freshly installed iPad, freshly installed MineCraft, nothing worked. It would go through the upload all the way to 100% and then fail with the dreaded "An error occurred" dialog box.
Eduardo Lazcano further down, commented the solution that worked! Look at his comment from 13th April 2023.
I used the Files-app on iOS and emptied the content of this folder:
/MineCraft/games/com.mojang/minecraftWorlds/[WORLD NAME]/resource_packs/
The upload size went from 128,9Mb to ~45Mb, and went through to our Realms instance on the first try!

When i try to download world it said " An error occurred " this problem happen already more than 2 years still not fixed its amazing
imagine all we can do is cry for it they dont even care * pay and get scam its crazy man how this problem still happen me
I pay for addons so many and bought 2 accounts and invited my friends to enjoy the game to support minecraft and what they give me back .??? . .
Everythings is broken its done after 12 years this game is for me not a safe zone anymore

My OS is a Nintendo Switch. I'm using the latest patch, .21, and have been having trouble with Realms and Marketplace since the last big update (not the hotfix to correct the bugs incurred by the patch). My realm expired in the middle of these issues, and after renewing, I am finding I cannot import my 134MB previous realm to the new realm. I'm able to see my expired realm and download the file. When I try to replace my existing world with this backup, the import gets between 75 and 83MB every time I get "an error occurred." I tried this multiple times under varying circumstances for my home internet with the same result each time. I'm nearly at the point of just moving on as I've more important things to do than wait on a developer to fix the rollout of a server changeover. I'm beyond frustrated. Cloudstrike, Mojang, Microsoft...when did software developers stop testing updates/patches before release? It's bush league. I had to thread test updates in a sterile environment under simulated peak demand for weeks to ID bugs. The same should have happened here. Bush league. Anyway. Hopefully, this post finds others in similar circumstances that the developers can use to troubleshoot the processes.

Hello Mojang Bug Team,
Since the latest update of Minecraft Bedrock Edition (1.21.22) on August 26, 2024, I have been experiencing significant issues downloading my world from my Realm. Despite multiple attempts to restart the game, log out and back into my Microsoft account, and download the world, I continue to receive the error message “an error has occurred.”
Until August 27, 2024, I was able to download my world without any issues. This problem also affects my brother, who has a Realm as well. It seems that the issue is server-side and has been present since the last two updates.
I regularly back up my world to an external storage device, usually once or twice a day. On August 27, 2024, at 12:28 PM, I was still able to download the world without any problems, which leads me to believe that the issue lies with the server.
I have also opened a ticket because my Realm was inaccessible last week or the week before. What happens to the lost days when we couldn’t access the Realm? Are these days simply lost, or is there a possibility to get these days credited back? I am only asking for these few days because I have been working on my Realm since 2017 and always enjoy playing in my world.
I hope that the issue will be resolved soon and kindly request that my Realm is not deleted or lost, as it means a lot to me.
Thank you very much for your support.
Best regards, Timm

Mojang Bug Team,
I recently encountered a serious issue with my 14-month-old realm. Until three days ago, I had no trouble downloading, replacing, or uploading my realm. However, now I’m unable to do so. The process begins with "Initializing Download," but quickly fails with an error message that simply says, "An Error has occurred," offering no additional options or guidance other than to click "Ok." I reached out to Minecraft support, but they could only refer me to this page.
I strongly urge you to investigate this issue, as it is having a severely negative impact on my community. Being able to download the realm for maintenance is crucial, yet I’m currently unable to do so, and I can’t replace my realm with the backups either. If my realm is targeted, I’ll be left with no choice but to continue playing on a damaged realm or close it and start anew, only to risk facing the same problem again.
I sincerley hope that you can provide me with an update as soon as the opportunity arises.
Regards,
Josh

Hello,
I have problems with downloading worlds from my realm too.
I am using a PlayStation 5, running Minecraft Bedrock for PlayStation on it's latest version v1.21.31.
When i try to download any world from my realm, it always shows the download bar and it's progress, but when the download finishes it just shows a message telling me "an error occured" (it shows that in german in my case, but that shouldn't make a difference)
I tried to upload and download different worlds with different sizes. Most of the uploads where successful, but a few failed with the same simple error message.
The downloads are the biggest problem. There was just one single time when the download worked succesful. It was when i tried to create a complete new flatland world with just the basic size of 30MB and upload and download it to and from the realm. It worked so far, but that was the only case when it did and unfortunately it was not reproducible.
After that i tried to upload my creative world with a local file size of ~500MB and the upload worked pretty well, but when i tried to download it, the well known error message popped up when the download bar reached 100%.
I should say at this point, that the PS5 definitely has enough free storage space to handle the download and import process and all my local world files size in sum is just round about 3GB, so Minecraft also should have enough internal space left
I had a chat with the support and they referred me here, but tbh i don't really know what to do right now. Actually i have a dead realm with no one playing at because no one wants to invest time into a world that can't be backed up on a local device.
I thought about attaching screenshots, but i notice there already are many screenshots with "an error occured" messages. Mine is looking pretty much the same just in german.
I hope that there will be a solution soon.
Regards best,
XMirnixDirnixX

Still cannot upload my main world to my realm. I can upload a 10 mb world but my main 587mb world fails every time. checked my internet and all looks good. It's a real bummer when I cannot use my realm for it's intended purpose. Really dont want to start a 3 year old world over either. xbox series x

so do i cancel my realm subscription until resolved as I can not use it for it's intended purpose?

so on a recommendation from an outside source. I hooked my series x to my phone hotspot and was able to upload my world to the realm

it’s been 8 years…
trying on Java 1.21.5 can’t upload a world
why the verification step has a 5 minutes timeout if it clearly needs more time?
fr add a proper way to upload the world on java, if we could just upload it from browser it would be fine
but 8 years old post unresolved, terrible experience

Ticket is marked as Bedrock but this is definitely also a Java issue.
Not sure why my ticket was lumped in here because I can’t even create worlds… or if I manage to actually make one it won’t let me join it!
It might be better just to discontinue the service if it’s not fit for purpose…

Currently having huge problems on PS5. Uploading my ~400MB world has been near impossible for the past few weeks. What usually happens is that the progress bar goes all the way through, but then it says "an error occured". And indeed I can see the world failed to upload when I open the realm.
Cancelling the upload by accident is not the issue, as I normally wait long after the error message pops up (sometimes hours). I tried everything: closing/opening the realm, freeing console space, freeing in-game space, trying on different internet connections, using "Replace world", using "Play on Realms", reinstalling the game, checking the backups… nothing seems to work.
I can only try uploading a few times a day (as the process somehow takes well over an hour), but I’m already through dozens of failed attempts over a few weeks. By contrast, uploading my whole game data (including the ~400MB world) on the Playstation Plus cloud barely takes a few minutes and works every time.

Im using Bedrock 1.21. Having the same problem as well uploading my 316.5MB world. It used to be in a 10-player realm but I changed to 2-player. Used the latest world save from that and now I paid for the realm twice and its not even working. Ive tried uploading multiple times a day, never works
