Nintendo Switch: Not Enough Space when trying to download Marketplace content or realm world

Note from [~GoldenHelmet]

This issue seems to be caused by a hidden 2 GB per user profile storage limit on save data. It is not clear whether this limit is imposed by Minecraft or by the Switch. Additionally, the amount of data use shown within Minecraft in the Settings>Storage menu may not match the amount of data use shown for Minecraft in the Switch's Settings>Data Management>Save Data Management menu. For some users, the Switch still shows 2 GB of Minecraft save data even after the user deletes all worlds, packs, templates, and cached data from Minecraft's storage menu.

The following workarounds have been shared in comments (pinned below):

  1. Close Minecraft and restart it.

  2. Delete unused and no-longer-needed content from within Minecraft, through the Settings>Storage menu.

  3. Delete the Minecraft save data through the Switch's Data Management menu. This should be a last resort as it will delete everything saved locally in the profile. However, Marketplace purchases will be able to be downloaded again, and worlds uploaded to a realm will be able to be downloaded again.

When trying to download a world that I've purchased I'm now getting the error "Not Enough Space - 134 MB - You do not have enough space available on your device to download the..." However, I have over 10 GB on my system, and over 12 GB on a SD card. It happens with every world we've bought, so it's somewhat frustrating; especially when downloading skin packs seems to work fine every time.

Which world in particular are you having issues with please?

@Mega_Spud it seems to happen when trying to download any new world; a one of the ones I remember buying, but not being able to download, is the Roman Empire World; there are a few others that I can't recall the name of right now, but can post when I get back home to check. As a test, I deleted some of our saved worlds (which took up more space than a world we were trying to download), but still got the same error; even though I just freed up more space than the world was supposed to require and I already have over 20gb of free space on an SD card and the system itself

Could you please include information about how much data Minecraft itself is taking up on the device? You should be able to see this by going to System>Data Management>Software>Minecraft (A screenshot might be useful).

I'm not able to take a screen shot at the moment, but I discovered something that fixed the issue. I deleted most, if not all, of the "imported" worlds that came from the old version of Minecraft for the Switch; after deleting these (although the actual size footprint of the game on the Switch didn't change all that much) I was able to download all of the skin packs/worlds that I bought and wasn't able to download. I also haven't seen this size error since then either.

The bug is listed here as resolved. What am I missing? I have exactly the same issue, even though the Switch is running on the latest software version.

When trying to download a world that I've purchased I'm getting the error "Not Enough Space - 289 MB - You do not have enough space available on your device to download the..."

Minecraft occupies 1.2 GB

Free Space on device storage 49 GB

Free Space on mircoSD Card 132 GB

This issue is not resolved. After deleting worlds and addons enough to download a new addon my son purchased, we're still getting the error. The "work around" is delete your entire save profile, which is absolutely pitiful. Why should we have to delete worlds we've created together and want to keep when there's absolutely no reason we ought to if there's still plenty of space?

Re-open the issue.

A possible solution to see if the 2GB limit is imposed by Nintendo or Minecraft is to find another game that you can download packs in game for and see if it only allows you to take up 2GB of space. If it only allows 2GB of space then Nintendo have set the restriction. If you can go over 2GB then it's a bug within Minecraft.

I'd suggest if the restriction is done by Nintendo is to tell Nintendo about the issue and request removing the 2GB limit per game per profile.

It appears to me as though this is an issue with the way that Minecraft clears internal save data from the Storage tab in settings.

Putting aside the fact that the switch imposes a 2GB limit on save files (this won't be changed as it is a blanket policy that Nintendo impose on all switch games) the problem for my kids is that, despite deleting nearly all their worlds and removing several pieces of content to make the figures in the storage total less than 2GB, the save file on the console data page is still showing as 2GB.

I expect that investigating the cause of this discrepancy would fix this issue for many users here. As it happens I now have to explain to my kids why they can't use anything from the marketplace, nor download anything new from the marketplace without completely deleting all their save data for every world.

Hi!

Is this issue still present on the latest release of the game? If it is, can you provide additional information about installed add-ons and their size?

The ticket will automatically reopen once you reply.
