Xbox: Recent worlds are missing after update

Mojang Studios Note

Please see the help article at https://help.minecraft.net/hc/en-us/articles/8386720596365, which mentions that you may see two versions of Minecraft and urges you not to uninstall the game during the update, which may take some time to complete.

minecraft worlds unable to load and not update to on saves yet the game has all my purchases on character stuff etc up to date my skin is fine and my achievements are all up to date as i have them all etc

only just a day ago i was playing the game normally enjoying my long lasting survival world on my xbox but as of yesterday night (it’s the next morning as i write this) i loaded up my xbox and my Minecraft was said to need a update so as it is the game “began” updating the progress bar didn’t go up after some time so i decided to restart my xbox which once done the progress bar of the update went up and so on and so on until it was “ready to start”/ completed update so we you do i clicked the game to load it however this time the start up was different it was asking me “first time player questions” like do i want narrator on and wot do u want to set your safe zone etc etc. Even though the game remembered and saved all my achievements and skins as seen in the files attached my worlds weren’t there the only worlds i had access to seeing were black and white thumbnail-ed again as seen in my attached files and the saved were from 2021 and 2020 and my recent worlds were gone. I’ve lost my hard-work and comfort of my multi year worked on world which it’s now gone and did cause me great distress seeing it’s gone so in the simplest from i’m asking for support on getting access to my worlds like normal again as i don’t rlly want to start a new world as the memories i have attached to this world too it’s tremendous thank you ! i was told by one helping to uninstall and then reinstall yet a post later made after that advice said not to do so especially if your saved data is over 4gb. the game remembers my skin and stuff everytbing is uodate apart from my worlds are gone which is devastating

Any resolution for this?  I have the same problem.

migrated

I'm having the same problem.

Prior to this, over the last week or so, I've had issues where it wouldn't update the world to the cloud when quitting out of the world (resolved by quitting the game, restarting, loading the world and quitting the world again).

Additionally, after running the update (which installed Minecraft on my Xbox again), I was getting kicked out of my world with an error that roughly said "Not enough storage space..." with a Magenta/Black Square checkerboard pattern in the background, and I'm also getting the "Not enough storage space" error on my Xbox for other games, related to the cloud storage bug that was supposed to have been resolved recently, but now seems to be back. I've deleted countless back-ups in response to that in recent weeks.

Lastly, I had 5 worlds (1 main, 4 remaining back-ups). Two are old (over a year), and remain (but neither syncs), and the 3 that are most recent (about 1.5 GB each) have now seemingly combined into one world in the list that is 3.5 GB. That one also doesn't sync.

migrated

Does anyone solve the problems or just mark as resolved duplicated? I can't find any actual resolutions on here at all?

migrated

It's not resolved... It happened to me and it just happened to my friend. Sucks because I do a lot of coding/modding, and just lost a 3-year project due to the update. There's no way to get it back unfortunately. Once the world is corrupt there's really no way of getting it back.

If you haven't reset or cleared local saves I found a way to get the worlds.
Do not reset console or clear local saves until you copy the files.

I added ADV Files (full trust) and copied all of my worlds from the folder. I used a tutorial to find the files on the xbox. I copied them to a thumb drive that I had formatted on my pc. I then pasted the worlds into the minecraftworlds folder on my pc and my phone. The worlds work perfectly on both the pc and the phone. I then created a realm and uploaded the worlds to the realm and then back to the Xbox. Now I have backups everywhere.
There is still a world sync issue to cloud, so basically no cloud saves until they fix the bug.

They are no longer using the old folder to store the world files on the xbox or there is an issue with it saving because I wanted to paste the worlds back into the packages folder I had previously gotten them from but it was no longer there maybe that's where the bug comes from?

AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.MinecraftUWP_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalState\games\com.mojang\

The packages folder is no longer listed.

I posted a step by step photos on my reported issue on what I did to save my worlds.  The sync bugs on xbox are still there but it saved the precious worlds for me.  That's really all that matters.

So much for this so called update. Clearly not enough testing was carried out before release. I have the same problem. I always make a backup, even during a game but this hasn't helped. I can't see the original world ( over 1Gb ) in the list and the copy shows a date some two weeks ago. That aside the copy will not sync so I can' t even use that. I did not see any notification regarding the so called update so thinking that the cloud could not sync with my console I deleted the console world files. I also uninstalled Minecraft and reinstalled it (the latest update would not complete and was left hanging) but the cloud apparently can' t sync with either an existing file or no file! This applies to all worlds I have, even those copied from over from older Xboxes so I've lost Many years of work. I have since managed to reinstall Minecraft with the latest (I believe) update bu still can't sync the files.
This problem exists on Xbox X and Xbox Series X.

migrated

This problem with the worlds and syncing must have something to do with the missing local state files on the Xbox consoles.

I don't know exactly, but the lack of the game's files after the update may also cause MCPE-163005 to happen.

My game updated on my Xbox x but as soon as I went to open my 9 year old survival world it tried to sync the world…but still opened my world underneath which was running just fine! Needless to say after it attempted for many minutes..there was no option to cancel it through me out, failed to save/ update and then I got the data save space error message.

I contacted mc support and Xbox support as my x has over 500gb free. My main game was 1.9 gb and was told to delete a few backups to make “space” I did this but still got error codes and failed to upload/ sync. Each time the game opened the sync screen would flash into existence then immediately disappear. I was told to remove mc which btw was by mc support…I had 6.5 gb saved data left, I have the messages saved but said I had read the warning and did not want to try that. I tried everything else they suggested, power recycling, internet, removal of my profile and at the end even a factory reset. I was told to clear my local saves so the option above will now not work for me. The world I loved and it’s one backup disappeared from my list in a blink along with every other option turning grey.

Minecraft twitter help who I spent 9 hours going back and forth with trying things then sent me to “technical help” who said to go talk to Xbox help as it wasn’t their issue they don’t support console versions…( also have their saved email)Xbox help said this was a developer issue as I spent at least two hours with them. They referred me back to mojang bugs.

I used to have a realm so renewed my sub as there was a very old version of my game on it. I had not been able to access it as it would not open. Was told to try. I had to open and pay for a new realm to get the option to re enable my old one. The game opened. But then crashed when I went to save message..Minecraft now did not have save space!( pink / black)

I couldn’t give up even with the bitter disappointment of losing nearly a gb worth of building exploring so I tried again. Finally got the realm world to download into my play list, random very old greyed out worlds had also appeared now, but even they will not sync. Played on world looking around seeing everything basically gone …went to save and back to no data save space message, fail to upload! World is now on list will not sync.

Everything on my list is greyed out all 4 very old games, none will sync. But yesterday One copy of my main beloved  1.9 gb world has now shown up on my list. It syncs to 98% then mc throws me out to dashboard every time I try.

The realms world which I had been in is unable to be played without being in the realm but I am devastated by all the loss.

I placed yet another bug report but mine was closed and referred to yours. I hope we can get some help.

Just a follow up less than 10 hours ago my main world was on my list but greyed out…it has now vanished again! It appears you have swapped my world for a “vote” mob button as that was not there when I logged off this morning! And the only remaining maybe copy 1.9gb of my world on my realm has also vanished, I can’t sync anything and everything gone.

I am beyond devastated again!

See if you can retrieve the world files from the pre update local state folder.  If you haven't cleared them they should be there to save to a thumb drive.  You can potentially save your world.

migrated

Part of their “fix” was to delete local saved games. I do have an older Xbox minecraft world saves maybe on there but I booted it up after this happened so it’s probably been overwritten now.

what I really don’t get is how my world 1.9gb was there a few hours ago…could not sync but was on my realm list and play list but upon turning on it’s gone! Replaced by a stupid vote button!

migrated

Omg I removed my profile again and now it’s back on the list again! Help please!…

attempting to upload the world to realms through realms upload screen, as if it keeps coming back it’s obviously somewhere associated with my account in minecraft.

I don’t hold out much hope as it was going to 98% yesterday then just crashing my game, no corrupted message just crash to dashboard.

they had me delete local saves because of the conflict between the new files and old…all that did was delete all hope.

migrated

Got to 98% again took nearly 20 mins to sync, no error message, just kicks me to dashboard. I am so sad.

Same here, i lost my 5 year minecraft world😔

migrated

I'm missing the main world, someone already solved it, I managed to rescue two copies of the world but I'm missing the main one :c

When saving and quitting my 170 MB survival worId I have to retry the world upload 3-4 times then It saves and freezes Minecraft. I have to quit the game and then relaunch it to play any other world but its been saving my world. This bug also reset all custom controls to the default.

migrated

Like most, I lost all of my work from the past 4 years.  My map size was running between 750 to 800 MB.  The last good save I had was from just prior to the small update that took place in early September. After that, sync's failed to work.  The file I am looking for should be dated 4 October 2022.  I have nothing even close to that date.

migrated

I'm having a glitch where the world fails to sync however just now it deleted the world that I tried to sync because the game crashed

migrated

Having same issues world will not sync since update same issue as above comments.

migrated

I had this issue before the update. I logged on one day and a bunch of my worlds were missing. I followed all procedures and still did not get a solution to this. I really hope the devs get on this and are able to help fix lost worlds

migrated

How did someone save that world? We’re devs able to go into files and what not on your Xbox?

migrated

Multiple worlds of mine disappeared for no reason even before the update. I did all troubleshooting steps both on Minecraft’s end, and on Xbox. I cannot access my files neither can the support teams on both ends. I really don’t know what to do at this point because I had a world with 100+ hours on it with friends and now it’s just gone. Please help.

migrated

Xbox help suggested going into settings and removing your profile from the Xbox completely then signing in fully again.
It takes a couple of minutes but does for me bring back my worlds onto my mc list but of course they are greyed out…. But at least I can see them.
i have been doing this as they keep disappearing every few days but the data of my worlds is still “ somewhere”.

migrated

Ani, download Minecraft preview and try to see if your worlds load there. in my case if they manage to load me but in the official version of Minecraft they don't

migrated

All my worlds are greyed out, and I get the message “failed to sync world data”, whenever I try to click on one. Sometimes it will sync, but will give up around 97-98%, and repeat the message in quotations above.

It turns out that the worlds are still available via preview, so they most certainty still do exist in the cloud somewhere. The problems seems to be a bug on the main game itself. A fix would help a great ton, but I doubt mojang will bother helping console players, as they haven’t cared about us since they forced us to play bedrock.

I refuse to play the game until this problem is fixed, which really sucks, as Minecraft has been a huge part of my life for 12 years at this point.

migrated

Sadly, this is still relevant in 1.19.40, and the local state folder of the game still didn't appeared yet.

migrated

1.19.40 does nothing to fix any of the above issues. Still can not play due to worlds not syncing. Can not even load up minecraft in most tries because of lack of storage save space in minecraft ( pink/ black screen error message)

If when I can get the game to load ( not even attempt to try to sync a world) in I get both Xbox error no save data space and minecraft.

As I have zero 0 nil games available to me to even choose one as they are all greyed out, I wonder exactly what data is being “used” to fill this imaginary space?

migrated

I am also having this issue. Spoke to Microsoft support they recommended a factory reset of my xbox.. (Saving game data) I did have the two versions of minecraft on my games list, but after the reset one has disappeared. Spoke to Minecraft support then and they told me to come here.. What is the next step to solvintg this issue? Everything is the same as the top post - however i have uninstalled my minecraft and reinstalled. Are my worlds lost? - The minecraft game that i have now has old worlds from 2021 and 2020.. presumably these weren't updated to the new version of minecraft (After the update..) Am i able to get my newer worlds back - As in my mind they're on the new version of minecraft somewhere..

migrated

I have also had many issues with sync process and lost some long term worlds or they have become corrupted. After a complete re-install of Minecraft (by this stage I had nothing more to lose) I still get the "cant upload world.." error.

migrated

Still a bug via the newest update. Can a mod please update it!

The bug is a cloud problem on the main games end. Works fine on preview. I’m even able to access worlds that I haven’t been able to access for years on the main game, so preview is doing something right, where the main game is getting it wrong.

Perhaps the devs should look into the differences in the code between the main game and preview, when it comes to world saving, world file accessing, syncing, etc…

I might also state that https://bugs.mojang.com/browse/MCPE-162920 is similar to this post, with the two sharing a common problem.

It’s now on 1.19.63 still a bug still no change I really don’t want to 7 years of a world
