I begin a Realm and everything was fine until the new update came out. All of sudden, every time I got off and reloaded back in, I would lose items. At first I thought a friend was stealing my items so I started a new base away from everyone during working hours. Got off for lunch and when I came back all the items in my chest disappeared. I tested it and eventually all my chest items except for seeds were deleted. In frustration I started my own solo world thinking it was a Realm issue. When I reloaded into my solo world all my items on my character were deleted but not the changes I made to the world. Played for hours since I didn't lose much progress. Stored everything in my chest and then when I reloaded at night again (in my SOLO world) all my items deleted. This has absolutely turned me off from the game since I can't be sure if I start a world I won't just lose everything all of a sudden.
Everyone is insisting that I take backups but when I load backups I spawn in the initial spawn zone, meaning if my base was across the world I would have to create a boat or turn on creative mode (which removes my achievement progress) to get back to my created base.

manufail, There is a bug where if you download a realm and load it local, you will start at spawn and have no items (or maybe sometimes at your last location).. But simply log out and back in again and you should be at the last location and still having the same items. This is a different bug than the items in chests disappearing.
Basically, the realm stores a local player but also an xbox live linked player.
The issue with sometimes loading as a new player is tracked at MCPE-164765. We will focus this report on the items disappearing from chests and barrels.
This has been happening to my realm as well.. I just randomly noticed missing items where I had barrels and ender chests for a project. This started after the last update. I had to dig through backups to verify I wasn't losing my mind or my items. But sure enough.. I restored my realm to a 3 day old backup (GRR).. and I was just logging off after 2 hours of redstone building under the same building and found another barrel empty. I am paranoid to play now. Had to go back to an 8 day old backup.
in 2 of my backups, 2 days apart I had 0 items in about 10 barrels and shulkers and then the other had 4 or 5 empty. Showing that all of the barrels didn't seem to disappear at once.
