manufail, There is a bug where if you download a realm and load it local, you will start at spawn and have no items (or maybe sometimes at your last location).. But simply log out and back in again and you should be at the last location and still having the same items. This is a different bug than the items in chests disappearing.
Basically, the realm stores a local player but also an xbox live linked player.
This has been happening to my realm as well.. I just randomly noticed missing items where I had barrels and ender chests for a project. This started after the last update. I had to dig through backups to verify I wasn't losing my mind or my items. But sure enough.. I restored my realm to a 3 day old backup (GRR).. and I was just logging off after 2 hours of redstone building under the same building and found another barrel empty. I am paranoid to play now. Had to go back to an 8 day old backup.
in 2 of my backups, 2 days apart I had 0 items in about 10 barrels and shulkers and then the other had 4 or 5 empty. Showing that all of the barrels didn't seem to disappear at once.
I have the exact same problem however i have an iron farm in the end and im on a realm and when ever i leave the villagers unlink, causing a mess of issues. I am unsure if its bettween chunks or npt im unsure how to test that in end.
I keep running into this. I spent some time trying to reproduce it in a creative world and was able to do it after about 10 minutes by loading boats with mobs on a super flat world (trying to match realms settings of 4 chunks, 8 render distance). The best way I found was to name tag Vexes and Phantoms, get multiple in boats, then leave and return (multiple times). it is more obvious with flying mobs since walking mobs do tend to pop back into the boat. Although using a bunch of tamed dogs/cats might work as well because they will teleport to the player when it happens.
Version 1.17.30 has introduced a bug which sounds like it may be similar to this. I have villager modules with a workstation and bed with 2 open spaces next to the bed. When the villager exits the bed it now jumps over the fence posts which I have at the foot of the bed. This happens on only 1 side of the hallway, where the head of the bed is East, the foot is West and 2 open spaces where they are supposed to move to are on the south side of these cells.

This issue seems somewhat random and I don't know for certain but it may only be happening to nametagged mobs. I went back and forth between a build where I have 3 nametagged mobs in boats (as you can see from the video) and a lake where I have about a dozen pillagers, not name tagged, in boats on the water. The pillagers didn't seem to be getting ejected from the boats, however twice returning to the 3 young moblings 2 of 3 were ejected.
This is possibly related to MC-221. It is the closest issue I could find.
This looks like the elytra bug/duplicate reported on this ticket.. MCPE-109925 I REALLY hope that this is fixed soon!

This issue has happened to me just now as well. I was disconnected from a current session. Received this message when trying to reconnect. It took about 15 minutes before I was able t o connect and it appears that I lost about 30 minutes of building so perhaps the server failed and a backup was restored? Unsure.
Game is still like this even worse i haven't been able to play in weeks. Haven't been able to play right in months

Because you're on 1.7.8, and the server is more than likely a bukkit/spigot server- You need to downgrade your minecraft in order to play. (The newer updates are kind of pointless anyways)
So, start up your launcher > Edit Profile > Use version tab > 1.7.2-1.7.4
I have same issue my self. I have a terraforming mechine that requires a named armor stand. When i summon the armor stand with name it works for about 30 mins, but then it stops summoning with name and break whole system. Before this update i never had an issue. The problem i think is minecraft edited the command structure of summon command that broke this command. Before the command was /summon armor stand ~~~ "name"
Now the command is /summon armor stand ~~~ xRotation, zRotation spawnevent "name"
