Hi, I am noticing another issue that seems to go along with this one, since both started happening at the same time: when rising to the surface with space bar, while swimming, occasionally the character will flop a little at the water surface before coming up or out of the water. This is especially if looking straight forward while swimming.

i’m not sure if this is a bug or a new intended mechanic, but it definitely is happening. all of swimming is just weird and different now the past twoish❓ weeks and it is especially a lot trickier to exit water deeper than two blocks. the player seems uncontrollable almost during this time and just kinda wiggles around and either responds too little to input or what seems like far too strongly, as just tapping up or forwards will either do nothing or absolutely rocket me uncontrollably in that direction.

@Ange Same. When I come out of the water it flickers for a second before I get onto land.

Can confirm this began with the 1.20 release - Bedrock for Android.

This doesn't seem to be fixed in the newest update. I updated to 1.20.3 on Bedrock Edition and tried to see if it was fixed only to have it continue to not work. I recorded a video demonstrating this:

I don't have any addons enabled that should/would conflict, though, just in case, I tested within a fresh flat world with no addons aside from a music replacer, (sorry). My findings were that, although it'd sometimes work as intended, it would typically show the same results as my attached video.
Edit: The issue might be based upon the way in which we start swimming. I typically jump in the water, sink a bit, then start swimming and rise to the surface. Running into the water and directly transitioning to the swim animation may be the key difference, with one working and the other still bugged. Hopefully this helps.
Edit 2: I believe I found the issue. Holding the jump button while you're swimming on the surface of the water causes you to start draining oxygen, whereas not doing so allows you to go slightly higher. In fact, holding the jump button won't allow you to swim high enough to get oxygen unless you exit the swimming animation, therefore, if you swim up from deep in the water, holding the jump button, you could potentially suffocate unless you exit the animation or stop pressing jump. This is probably a separate, but related, bug.

This issue is definitely related to MCPE-170087.
Swimming mechanics on mobile platforms are jacked and have been since an update months ago.
Please go to that issue to see my very detailed description.
I'm at a loss as to way Mojang doesn't seem to understand our issue.

Perhaps this is intended behavior but I was certainly confused by what was going on. I was all out of bubbles and couldn't see that I was taking damage from drowning while surface swimming to shore. Version 1.20.30.
