Improved in 1.20.5-pre1. Remaining cases are from carvers (not noise caves), and are considered Won't fix status.
Trial chambers can generate exposed to the air, relates to MCPE-146753.

Despite the following quote has been mentioned in the 1.21.0.21 changelog, this is still an issue in 1.21.0.21 (for carver caves I think).
Trial Chambers are now more consistently buried by terrain when found underground
Added another instance where a trial chambers intersected a canyon.
