The developers promised that the original D-pad layout and spacing would be reverted in 1.21.0 - however, this is not the case. They did say that we could adjust the spacing and sizing, but in my opinion, the user should not need to fine tune spacing and sizing just to get the old D-pad back, which has been used for over a decade now. Users should be able to select whatever original size they had before the new controls were implemented, and move on.
Many users, including myself, have memorized this D-Pad after years of playing. The old D-Pad had no reason to go, other than consistent design aesthetics with the other, newer controls.
I do wish that the developers revert the D-Pad back to the original, this issue has gone on for far too long.

Probably Invalid. The fix of MCPE-178387 simply changed the new D-pad controls not reverted it as stated by the pinned comment on MCPE-178387
Can confirm in 1.21.2.
Steps to reproduce:
Create/load into a world.
Pause the game and go to Settings>Touch>"Change Control Mode".
Change control mode to "D-Pad & tap to interact". Notice that despite MCPE-178387 being fixed, controls don't look the same as before.
Where has that been stated? I believe the plan is to bring the new D-pad closer to the original, not revert it entirely.
More fixes have been made in the previews, and those should be coming to the main release soon. If you find any other issues with the new D-pad, please report them separately.
