As of Preview 1.21.70.24, pausing the game also pauses all sounds. However, it is still possible for any sounds to play after the pause with good timing.
Steps to Reproduce:
Enable the game pause in general settings
Use a spyglass
Without releasing, pause the game
Observed Results:
The pause immediately releases all inputs, so the spyglass sound is still heard after the pause due to it being played at the exact same time.
Expected Results:
Pausing the game also pauses any sounds that are played on the same tick.

Notes: This affects any sound, but spyglasses are the easiest and most consistent way to reproduce the issue.

After consideration, the issue is being closed as Won't Fix.
Please note that this is not the same as Working as Intended, as this bug report correctly describes behavior in the game that might not be the intended or desirable behavior, but it will not be fixed right now. Sometimes, this is because the issue reported is minor and/or impossible to change without large architectural changes to the code base.
