The event pops up. But is unplayable. It says that an update is required, but the game is up to date, as I have not been prompted to update Minecraft on my switch. The read more button doesn't do anything either.

If you could check that you have the latest version update (1.21.70) that would be helpful, you should be able to see which version you have on the main screen after you launch the game.
Additionally, you may wish to try restarting your device to see if that helps with the issue.
There are hanging moss vines with a pale garden in the panorama, this will almost certainly mean your version is outdated.
Could you please let us know what happens when you click on the green button that says “Update Required”?
You selected 1.21.80.21 Preview as your affected version and Nintendo Switch as your platform, but Minecraft Preview is not available on the Switch. Please check your game version. It shows in the lower right hand corner of the main menu. It should say "1.21.62 Hotfix". If it does not, you need to update your game.
