Marketplace Ray Tracing Worlds No Longer Work

Summary

All official NVIDIA RTX marketplace worlds are currently broken - PBR textures fail to load, making these DXR hardware-exclusive content items non-functional for their intended purpose.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Use DXR-capable hardware (e.g. RTX 20/30/40/50 series)

  2. Search "RTX" in Minecraft Marketplace

  3. Download any official NVIDIA RTX world (e.g., "Neon District RTX” or “Color, Light, Shadow“ both of which heavily rely on PBR texture effects)

  4. Create world with ray tracing enabled

  5. Observe: PBR textures do not load, worlds do not appear as intended.

Expected Behavior

  • PBR textures should load with ray tracing as it is enabled

  • Marketplace RTX worlds should display just as shown in promotional screenshots

  • Ray tracing should be easily enableable as advertised

Actual Behavior

  • PBR textures fail to load entirely

  • RTX worlds appear flat/incorrect without any proper materials

  • Even community workarounds no longer restore the functionality, such as the one below:

Previous Workaround (No Longer Works)

The community developed this workaround which previously worked:

  1. Enable "Allow in-game graphics mode switching" in settings

  2. Join world first, then enable ray tracing in-game

  3. Exit and reload world to force PBR texture loading

This workaround no longer functions as of recent updates for Marketplace worlds, however it still works for custom worlds + community made RTX packs.

Related Issues

This problem is compounded by existing bug reports:

  • MCPE-191513: Ray tracing can no longer be enabled while in the main menu

  • MCPE-152158: PBR textures don't load properly upon enabling ray tracing after fresh launch

Impact

  • RTX hardware owners cannot use DXR-exclusive content they were promised, i.e. NVIDIA partnership content is non-functional while still being promoted

  • Hardware-gated content fails to deliver on its core promise and new users cannot access the showcase content as intended, forcing them to have to use even more third party software to roll back to older bedrock versions just access the feature.

Platform

  • Edition: Bedrock Edition (Windows 10/11)

  • Hardware: RTX 20/30/40/50 series GPUs

  • Version: Current release versions

Additional Information

This affects all official NVIDIA RTX marketplace content that requires DXR hardware to access. These worlds are hardware-gated showcase content that players may have specifically bought RTX GPUs to experience, but they're currently non-functional.
Please prioritize this issue as it affects what’s essentially paid marketplace content and a major advertised feature partnership.

Could you upload a screenshot about the affected marketplace map?.

Here’s an image of color-light-shadow RTX map taken in the latest 1.21. (Had to upload to imgbb because mojira would throw errors when images are uploaded directly)

This exclusively affects all marketplace RTX maps (PBR textures refuse to load whatsoever)
Additionally the compounded bugs mentioned in the report affect marketplace worlds in addition to any world with a ray tracing resource pack.

Here’s how the same map is supposed to appear according to marketplace screenshots:

Tested on 1.21.101, but the issue has been ongoing for a while now and affects current 1.21.120.x previews as well
