I'm having the same issue!

The option of “connecting to local network” on home screen is not existing anymore since 26.20 on my switch 2. This option still exist on my switch 1, also 26.20

Result: with both switches I can't join each others world in local multiplayer, like I did frequently befor the update.

Press Y to switch to LAN missing from menu once logged in to Microsoft Account. Can't join Lan without Microsoft and Nintendo account both logged in, but once logged in the LAN option disappears and will not come back. Problem started after version 26.2 update.

Update: found a new setting in the world settings. When you enable multiplayer and set lan settings to visible, the world can be seen by separate users on the local network who have their own nintendo/microsoft account and are friends. However, splitscreen play on one switch is now disabled. You cannot do both LAN play and splitscreen. (I have 5 kids playing on 3 switches with 3 gamecards. This is a problem. They were able to play together fine until this update. It feels like a cash grab.

Can confirm (see below for steps to reproduce).

For “Visible to LAN players” from the Create / Edit World screen, it for the world from the Super Mario Mash-up Pack gets forcefully disabled by the game when I entered it, even when I edited it to have “Visible to LAN players” explicitly be enabled.

Steps to reproduce for Network Mode menu:

  1. Open Minecraft

  2. Optional but make sure “Hide Controller Hints” from Settings > Controllers is disabled

  3. On the title screen, try accessing Network mode menu (defaults to by pressing Y button)

Expected result: It should be possible

Actual result: It does nothing, which made activating Local network mode from there impossible. If step 2 is done, the button to “Connect to Local Network” no longer appears.

We have 2 Nintendo Switches that we want to play local multiplayer on. We toggle with Y at the Mincraft homescreen to select Local Network. After doing that, while trying to click the edit settings for a world, we also get the same blue screen as is pictured. Local multiplayer is completely grayed out and does not connect at all. We both have updated to the latest version as of 6/21/2026. This is very frustrating because we only bought Minecraft to play together! Its a waste of money if this is not fixed. Both of our Switches are greyed out for multiplayer selections.

Local wireless multiplayer still not working for switch/switch 2 after that latest patch 1.26.30. Super disappointing, it has been broken since 26.21.

Same as everyone else, in local mode for both switches, our worlds do just not show up at all so cannot join each other as we used to. Local wireless multiplayer for Switch just no longer functions.

I have tried all of below the "fixes" found online so far:

Ensuring both Switches have the same version of Minecraft running.
Ensuring we are both in "Local" mode, not online.
Clearing marketplace and download caches via the storage menu.
Ensuring we are both Nintendo Switch friends.
Completely deleting Minecraft and reinstalling to the Switches.

None of this resolves the issue.

Hoping for a fix so my son and I can continue to play Minecraft together.

Just wanted to add a note here, this bug appears to have been fixed in the latest switch patch, 26.32.
LAN mode works again, can see and join local mode worlds with no issue.

Thank you so much for fixing!

I'm still having the problem (version 26.33).

With a local network, the multiplayer settings are always greyed out.

Hi Samuel,

Not sure if this is helpful for you or not, but in my experience the multiplayer option in the game world settings is always greyed out if you do not have a Nintendo switch online pass (and maybe a microsoft account, but not sure on that part).

However (and this is what was previously not working in this bug report) when setting the game to “local network” on the main title screen menu (pressing “Y”), worlds should appear on the world select screen if all local players are set to local network and one player has loaded up a world already.

It will/should work even though that multiplayer option in the individual world settings remains greyed out.
