Switch: Unable to activate "Multiplayer game" toggle in world settings

My Switch can join PC hosted Multiplayer, but in the World Settings on the console it is not possible to activate Multiplayer. The is a message about a MS-Account. But I do not have connected any account (MS or Nintendo) and only wanna play Local LAN. See Screenshots:

I tried all possible ways, Flight Mode, Reset Switch, Delete Cache…

I’m experiencing the same issue. Spent a lot of time troubleshooting MS account settings. Tried to create a new world, when I access the multiplayer settings for it I get the message in the image I posted that mentions I need an Xbox game pass subscription to allow multiplayer. This message appears while creating a map while already in LAN mode. Never had an issue like this before 1.26.30. My kids and I play together over LAN with the world hosted by my switch. Hope this gets fixed.

We have 2 Nintendo Switches that we want to play local multiplayer on. We toggle with Y at the Mincraft homescreen to select Local Network. After doing that, while trying to click the edit settings for a world, we also get the same blue screen as is pictured. Local multiplayer is completely grayed out and does not connect at all. We both have updated to the latest version as of 6/21/2026. This is very frustrating because we only bought Minecraft to play together! Its a waste of money if this is not fixed. Both of our Switches are showing the exact problem presented in the pictures of the original poster.

I am also having this issue. I contacted Nintendo’s live chat and they said they couldn't help me, and to ask Epic Games for some weird reason. I asked if they meant Microsoft and they said yeah, so I posted on the only Microsoft forum I could find that was somewhat related, and they told me to ask Nintendo, and just gave me the same links I already found that don't solve the issue.

I saw a comment somewhere that I think may be the issue- It's stuck in a loop. It thinks you need to be logged in to a Microsoft account to play any multiplayer even local, but when you change to Local network it logs you out of Microsoft, but if you're logged in then it thinks thinks you need Nintendo Online. So even though neither of these have been a requirement before it seems to think they are now for some reason.

For the Mojang team, I haven't been able to play Multiplayer on Local ever since you could saddle a Happy Ghast. I have spoken to Nintendo, Xbox, and Microsoft and they all say it's on your end. I have created three tickets… the other two were closed with no results as they were stumped. These screenshots of the issue and my step-by-step actions should give you an idea if it helps. This was also posted in the Minecraft Discord group and no one understands how I am still having this issue, but at least I can see that I'm not the only one.

I accept that things change with every update. The problem now looks a bit different.

Now, when using a local network, it is no longer possible to edit the multiplayer settings at all; all the settings are greyed out.

However, the message regarding the Microsoft account has disappeared (on the local network).
