Cloud sync failure locks you out of accessing your worlds

without prompting or my consent, my worlds have started to back themselves up with the cloud, but only once i access the world for the first time after this update. after logging on today, I tried loading up my world that was backed up, and the “syncing world“ prompt appeared. this made me unable to play for about 5 whole minutes, only for it to say “something went wrong - failed to load world“. now, it gives me this error any time i click on the world. if my world is corrupted, it is due to this cloud sync feature that i did not ask for. If i made the world on my device, why does it not access the local file?

Please attach the affected world to this report. If the world is larger than 100 MB, you can upload it to a file-sharing site, such as OneDrive, Google Drive, or Dropbox, and then share the download link.

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Bvm_RVQtVGbpKxkjSmXOn8yW8gs81c8x/view?usp=sharing this is the world that is failing to load. it is around 450mb and might be too big to load via cloud, but there doesn’t seem to be a way to opt out of using cloud saving, so since it can’t load, it just locks my world away from me and says “cloud sync failed“. MY OWN worlds that ARE ALSO STORED LOCALLY should NEVER be locked away from me.

I am also having this issue.

My world is about 730MB, and it started having this issue 8/4/26
I am running 26.40.

The game thinks that the world is cloud only based on the icon in the world select screen, despite me having this world locally, it forces me to download from cloud and shows an error when I try do so.
I cannot edit or access the world in any way, in the storage screen, I only have the “download from cloud” option which gives the same error as when I try to open the world.

In the case of Beau Wyss's world, the world also fails to import into the game. Looking at the files, the world has two resource packs applied, which is what is causing both the import failure and the cloud sync failure.

I'm not sure exactly what within those resource packs is causing the issue. However, from a quick glance, both of the resource packs appear to be largely a copy of the vanilla Bedrock resource pack samples. This is generally not recommended when creating resource packs. When using the Bedrock samples as a starting point, you should only keep the files you intend to modify and remove everything else to avoid potential issues.

I have a similar problem (Windows 11) and thought it fit very well here:

Quick summary first:
Since the update to Minecraft Bedrock 26.40 I cannot join about half of my worlds anymore. As soon as the loading screen is almost finished, I get error code "Block" and am kicked out. The exact same thing happens when I upload those worlds to my Realm "VoidCraft". New worlds work fine, but all existing old worlds and even old backups of them are affected.

Hello team,
I want to summarize my issue completely because the situation is absolutely terrible right now.

Since the update to Bedrock 26.40, neither I nor any other player on our Realm "VoidCraft" are able to join existing worlds. The loading screen gets to almost the end and then we immediately get the error code "Block" and are kicked out. Creating a completely new world on the same Realm works fine.

But the problem is not only with Realms. I tested further: About half of all my local worlds have the exact same "Block" error. All backups of those worlds are also affected, even backups that are 6 months old. The worlds are still there and not deleted, but I simply cannot access them anymore.

Important: If I enable "Reset Player Data" during export, I can export and re-import the world. But as soon as I try to join that re-imported world, the same error happens again. Also every time I cancel the error I briefly see "Syncing World Data" and often "Error, Syncing World Data failed".

This is especially critical for us because a lot of work and progress from many players is in those old worlds. Starting a new world is not an option because everyone would lose everything they built. We want to be able to keep a world running long term.

Before 26.40 everything worked perfectly. Since the update the Realm has been completely unplayable for us. We have already tried everything listed on minecraft help for error code "Block": restarting the Realm, loading backups, and reinstalling Minecraft. Nothing worked. And it doesn't just affect me - no player at all can join.

I am paying for this Realm and there are a lot of people on it. The members list even says "This Realm is too popular to show all members". I urgently ask for this bug to be fixed, because the worlds are currently completely unusable.

A PC-only Hotfix has been shipped for this issue. It disables the Cloud Sync feature which should allow loading of all of these worlds.

Version: v26.42
Build: 49042216
Branch: r/26_u4
SHA: 7bc90e8887c29d13599eb19af6fc99c98dca4f9f
Protocol Version: %12168

The Cloud Sync toggle should be an opt-in feature. Once the underlying issue is fully fixed, players should have the choice whether to use Cloud Sync or not, as Cloud Sync can be unperformant sometimes.
