LG G5 and Windows 10
Apologies if this a dupe. I have a serious issue where somehow my friend has been opped and no matter how many times I deop them they still appear as an option to deop under /deop tab. They are constantly able to go into creative. I have to use a command block (hidden) to keep them in survival. I don't know if this is intened when you friend/favorite someone through xbox app or what. I keep searching for answers and can't find anything about it. Help is appreciated! They have a custom (can't hurt players in the pause menu. It says they are unopped there.)
Note: Every time I think I fixed it, I find out (heavily disappointingly) that I failed in my attempt. OH and they can see the command logs in their chat even though I can't because I turned it to false..
If you need more info please let me know.
Edits: I want to add that I don't think I am in 1.2.9.1 or whichever.. It just says 1.2.9 And I would like for someone to let me know if they are looking into this, because it is super frustrating to have someone be able to go into creative and do a bunch of commands even though they aren't supposed to be able to.

I tried to look into this a week ago, but didn't fully understand what you're doing. The phrase "they still appear as an option to deop under the /deop tab" doesn't describe anything I can identify in the game. I assumed you're probably talking about a Realm, with which I'm not familiar, so I left it to a moderator to respond. I will keep an eye on this issue and jog them if they don't soon.
BTW, the 4-part release numbers we use here reflect the fact that many internal builds of the game are created before one is released to the public. After a release, the 3rd number is incremented and the 4th number starts at 1 again. As long as the first 3 numbers are the same, you can assume it's the same version.
I don't follow but this is what I did. I open a world in minecraft on LG G5. Enable multiplayer, friends only. My friend joins the world. Somehow they were able to change gamemodes even though I deopped them using the command /deop. There is no realm. On windows 10 I did the same thing. I tried /deop (press tab) which cycles through my name and theirs (for some reason) They shouldn't be an option because they shouldn't be an op. Yet they can go into creative through settings on their game. Don't know if it finally worked because they tell me they can't go in to creative anymore but yeah I can't tell for myself. My other friend joined and I saw for myself that they can't change their gamemode so the only conclusion I came to was that, I opped her near the beginning and forgot so I deopped her to make sure and it ended up not working so I assumed their was something wrong with coding like conflicting information or something. Idk. Please let me know if this makes any sense.
It all makes sense now. I didn't realize they'd given us the /deop command, and by "tab" I thought you meant like the tabs that select pages on the Creative inventory.
I tested the /deop command with my tablet connected by LAN and using a second gamertag. Although the tablet player only had Member permissions, it was still listed by the /deop command, and when I run the command on that player the log showed it was deopped (and its chat said "You were de-opped"), so you can't rely on the chat log to tell whether they were opped. Or at least not if you're playing on LAN.
One thing that might be happening is that the "local player" (a special profile that applies to whichever user is hosting the game) always has an additional Personal Game Mode item in their game settings. So if your friend is actually hosting the game, even if you deop her she can still get into Creative mode. Other than that the option is only available to operators. The local player can also change anybody's permissions at any time using the pause menu. The only difference between being the local player and having Operator permissions is that the local player can't run commands (unless they're opped of course).
This would be sufficient to explain what you're experiencing, but only if your friend was able to load the world herself. That doesn't seem likely, unless you're sharing it in a cloud account or sharing use of your computer. Anything like that going on?

I finally got around to trying various ways a non-op player might be able to give themselves op status using command blocks. Apparently, the execute command will not execute an op command, even if the person running it is an operator, so that theory is wrong.
Since I have no other theories about how this could have happened, and we now have a second ticket complaining of this, I am marking this ticket as confirmed by Community Consensus.
