Dog (Tamed Wolf) stuck in boat

(Samsung Galaxy Tab A) When crossing water with a boat, and a dog (tamed wolf) is following me, he will swim after me, then jump in the boat. However, when I leave the boat and walk away, he won't get out. As if he is stuck. I looked up how to get him out and someone suggested using a fishing pole. So every time I leave the boat I have to hook my dog, which does damage to him. If I'm on an especially long journey he eventually dies. And sometimes I will fish him out, and he will run right back to the boat and get in, even though I'm walking away and am already at a distance. I have tried walking far enough that he would normally teleport and he doesnt, he is just stuck there.

This is mostly intended behavior. Once a mob or NPC enters a boat, it will stay there. This makes it possible to transport them where you want them; if it climbed out by itself this would be almost impossible because you'd constantly have to nudge them back into the boat.

Instead of a fishing pole, you might want to just break the boat. That's the usual way of releasing a mob if you've been transporting it. The boat will drop so you can retrieve it and replace it. It takes no damage, and if you break it by hand you won't incur any damage to your tools.

The dog getting back into the boat on its own seems unusual, but it could just be a coincidence. Unless you make them sit, dogs move around almost constantly. It might have just happened to walk in that direction.

That's another problem. Boats won't break...

Just commenting here, breaking the boat not really is a solution. The hitboxes in boats seem to be slightly off. You are more likely to hit the dog instead. This especially becomes clear on horses, iron golems and ghasts, because their hitbox is so big, that the boats can not or almost not get destroyed.

Boats do break, but you have to hit them several times in rapid succession to get them to. (You can break them with your bare hand.)

Breaking a boat containing a larger mob can be challenging, but you can do it without hurting the mob if you get the angle right. It seems to work the same as in Java Edition, from what I can see in YouTube videos. We'll have to let the developers decide whether they intend it to be this hard. If so, you could still make a request to change it on the feedback site.

(Just a quick note that might help - fishing rods do not actually inflict any damage, and boats can often be most easily broken from underneath, even with larger mobs inside.)
