Original description below
I'm building a villager breeder and i was making 1x1 waterpockets to hydrate the farmland. I covered them with carpet and noticed that the water didn't render. It looks just like it's an airblock. The same happens when you first place a carpet on the bottom of the hole.

Confirmed on 1.6.0 on a Nvidia Shield Tablet

Still present in 1.6.1

Confirmed for 1.7.0.9 Beta, this also affects lava.

This is because the block placed over the water raises the level of the water surface up to the bottom of the block. See my comment on MCPE-62255.

Still affects 1.14.60

This also happens in xbox one 1.16 also

This could be fixed simply by fixing MCPE-12109.

Affects 1.17.41
Affects 1.18.0.24

Still happens now in 1.20

Can confirm in 1.21.20.24
