In version 1.5.0.10 player markers no longer point towards home, and do not rotate, at least on maps where I am off the map.

Neither version 1.4.4.0 (which you listed as the affected version) nor 1.5.0.10 (which you mention in the description) is available on Windows 10 at this time. What version are you playing now, and is this still an issue? (This ticket will automatically reopen when you reply.)
Works fine in PE. I tested it in my survival world with two maps: one where I'm in the area and one where I'm not. The icon still rotated to where I faced.
Map pointers do not point to home. They point to where the player is facing.
Cleaning up old tickets: This ticket has not been updated recently (~1 year+) so is being closed as Cannot Reproduce. If you feel this is still a valid issue then please comment, or create a new ticket following the Issue Guidelines.
