Village radius and/farming area not that stated in the wiki

A previous report complaining about the much reduced farming area was closed as cannot be reproduced except that it is easily reproduced and still valid. The wiki states that the village radius is a minimum of 32 blocks. It also states that a farmer will farm a 31x3x31 (x,y,z) area. However, no villagers will go outside a 16 block radius and neither will a farmer farm beyond that - if anywhere near a village. A farmer will farm anywhere if not. So, either the rules have changed and wiki is wrong or there have been added restrictions for iOS users or the fix to stop the villagers wandering too far have been restricted too much. As the villagers are restricted in movement then it is almost impossible to build a large village and the villagers will huddled near the centre.

As a note to the photos, if you take the house away the farmers will farm the whole area with no restrictions.

As a note, the village radius is a minimum of 32 in bedrock (you can still see this in the NBT data), but I do agree that the wander distance from the village centre is much reduced

Please note that the standard for comparing Bedrock behavior is mostly how Java Edition behaves, because in most cases they're intended to work the same way. But there are some intentional differences, and since (unlike Java) there is no source code available to study, the wiki may not be able to document Bedrock behavior accurately. Village mechanics is one area where Bedrock and Java are intentionally quite different in technical details. Spawning is another (but the wiki has more accurate information about spawning). Please keep this in mind when reporting bugs based on what the wiki says: They can often be deficiencies of the wiki, not bugs in the game.

This issue also applies to Windows 10, but 16 blocks has actually been the limit since long before 1.4.2. I have an old flat world in which I tested villager wandering from a single-door single-house "village" by using a command block to continuously replace the block beneath the single villager with colored concrete. I found the same pattern of a circular area with a radius of roughly 16 blocks (and an apparent tendency to prefer the north/west side, probably caused by rounding in the pathfinding calculations).

This is also evident in certain villages in my Survival world where the limit circle happens to pass through crop fields. I was able to get them to harvest more crops by placing additional doors, but that's only because it moves the village center; it doesn't enlarge the harvest area.

Auldrick. I raised this new call because another much older issue MCPE-21537 had been closed as cannot be reproduced simply because it was old and had been ignored. Therefore, yes, this has been the case for at least a year. I also note, and stated, that it might be a fault with the wiki but..... this new farming range (and I stated on the other call that the range area just moves not expands) is very limiting because the farmers won't even touch a lot of the farms in generated villages, in templates that have large villages/towns it is impossible to populate them as all the villagers huddle in a group (because of the bug that causing ceaseless trading of food) and all try and use one or two houses to cram into at night leaving others empty because they too are restricted to a small area. I appreciate that there have to be limits but 16 minimum for farming and villager movement means that villages, per se, are a thing of the past. design bug in my view.

Cleaning up old tickets: This ticket has not been updated recently (~1 year+) so is being closed as Cannot Reproduce. If you feel this is still a valid issue then please comment, or create a new ticket following the Issue Guidelines.
