If you go to the Nether and search for magma cubes and then spot them near any bodies of lava, they'll jump in and sink to the bottom immediately.
They do not swim to the surface of the lava, but instead continue jumping like normal. Interestingly though, they can swim in the water.

There is a line in the 1.16.0.63 changelog about mobs behavior "while drowning in lava." Could someone test whether that fixes this issue?
@unknown The fix was for MCPE-17073. Not this issue.

I have made a comment about blazes sink in the lava lake and surviving in MCPE-21856. This is problematic since it's filling up the mob cap. I hope the behaviours change as much as re writing spawn mechanics. All mobs should be at least hovering or swimming in Nether.
