Failure in back-to-back piston monostable circuits

I created a piston monostable circuit, as shown below.

When powered, it emits a brief signal as expected.

I followed this up with a second monostable circuit.

Now when the switch is activated, the first piston raises and a brief signal passes through (again, as expected). However, although the second piston raises, the second repeater is never powered.

Expected behavior is for the second repeater to be powered for a tick in the same way the first repeater was.

World changes (e.g. user inputs) will activate repeaters one tick earlier. This is the reason the monostable works once.
