Block animations frozen after resuming game

Often block animations will be frozen with no other visual glitches (no lag etc.) Blocks affected are:

kelp, sea grass, water, flowing water, lava, flowing lava, soul sand bubble columns (still function), magma block bubble columns (still functions), magma block, fire.

I assume all animated blocks are affected but these are the ones I have seen in my survival world. I have not had it happen in creative.

P.s. this is on an iPhone 8+ but there is no option for that.

This happened to me too. ipad mini 2, ios 12

Nether portals are also affected. Particle emitting blocks (nether portals, torches) still emit particles.

I can confirm this issue on iPad Pro. Steps to reproduce:

  1. Start the game as normal.

  2. Look at some flowing water, or any blocks with animated textures. They should be rendered properly at this time.

  3. Switch apps to move Minecraft to background.

  4. Switch back to Minecraft.

  5. Now animation freezes.

When this happens the uniform TIME in shaders appears to contain NaN or something invalid as if it were pointing to an uninitialized memory area.

The animated textures of certain blocks/items such as water, lava, portals, bubbles, seagrass etc may appear to stop or freeze after the app / game closed and resumed from the background.

This issue is fixed in the 1.9.0.5 Beta, but we can leave this ticket open as a point of reference until the fix is in a full release.

Fixed in 1.9.0.
