[Fixed in 1.13] Block placing insanely fast when inside the hit box of hostile mob

When a placing blocks in a position that would be inside a hostile mobs hit box it will very quickly place 2 block (or 3 slabs if placing slabs).

I tested this on zombies, drowned and creepers.

I also tested on sheep and cows and could not replicate it.

It will only place two full blocks very fast. if you continue to hold down place block button then the block placement continues at normal speed. so I assume it is only for the block inside the hit box of the hostile mob.

It seems to be insanely fast rather than instant as if a very quickly tapped the place block button I could place 2 slabs (as a block) rather than 3 slabs

Could not reproduce in 1.8.0 on Windows 10. What kind of control are you using? If a mouse or keyboard, sometimes mechanical wear can cause it to produce multiple clicks from one press (although it shouldn't be specific to any scenario as this seems to be).

I'm using mouse and key board.

My mouse is relatively new and I found the behavior to be relatively consistent.

Depending on where the hostile mob spawns you might have to push it with a piston.

Before pushing the slabs work normally

After pushing the zombie with the piston I can replicate the bug

Ok, I've confirmed it now.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. In Creative mode, dig a 1-block hole in level ground.

  2. Two blocks above the hole, place a solid block to keep an adult mob from getting out, and to stop skylight from getting into the hole.

  3. Spawn a creeper, zombie, drowned, zombie pigman, witch, villager, or zombie villager in the hole.

  4. Punch the mob to push it against one side of the hole.

  5. Place any kind of slab on top of the block you pushed the mob against.

Expected results:
A bottom slab is placed.

Actual results:
A double slab is placed, and unless your click was extremely quick or you are standing in the way, a third slab is placed on the block in front of it.

I tested all the bipedal mobs. The issue did not occur for a skeleton, wither skeleton, stray, husk, vindicator, or evoker.

Possibly fixed in 1.13.0.2 Beta

Confirmed to be fixed in 1.13 beta.

This bug is fixed in the latest beta version, and the fix will be included in a future update when that is ready for full release (no specific date can be given). We will leave this ticket open as a point of reference until the fix has been fully released.
