Endermen cannot be hit by tridents in melee (didn't try to throw it - I presumed it would teleport away from a thrown trident like it teleports away from arrows).

Please provide more detail. When you attempt to hit the enderman at close range, does it teleport away or does the trident hit it without doing any damage?
