Villagers dwindle and disappear.

I've entered multiple new villages in multiple worlds. If I stay in the village, I always notice the population dropping, despite no events occurring that would kill the villagers. There is no specific rate of decline, but after several in-game days, the village always winds up empty. Villagers won't breed in times of low population, causing the entire village to become deserted.

Edit: The villagers are, in fact, dying. They leave their doors open and get killed by monsters in their beds.

I was mistaken about whether the villagers died.

It seems that the villagers are leaving their doors open after going in to sleep for the night, and monsters are killing them in their houses.

Note that this desertion of the village can also occur because they wander so far away that they never find their way back. I have found that this happens whenever there is no bell in the village.

I've been playing on a world set to peaceful for a few days, thinking that would keep my villagers from disappearing... Nope. They're all gone but two that decided to live in structures I built. The village has a center with 2 bells. Not sure why this happened in this case.
