Playing on bedrock, almost all players will run into this problem. It seems as if when an autosave point comes up most of the time the game will freeze and you will be forced to restart the software which when going back into the game usually results in a player death or having to redo around 5 minutes of work. This is not an error with my switch as many others are having the same problem. If any more information is needed just comment.

Also, if anyone needs a fix to this issue as if now, going offline and playing seems to stop this from happening
Can confirm this happens randomly from time to time during normal gameplay (building, mining, opening chests, etc) and swimming seems to make this freeze almost certain. You can swim in a boat on the ocean, but not swim in the water itself. This started occurring since 1.9 update.
Thank you Dylan for the tip. I turned off the wifi connection and I played for 4 hours without freezing. The lag is still there but at least I can play.
Been having this same issue since 1.9 was released. Game will eventually unfreeze but connection to Microsoft account will have been lost. Haven't tested turning off WiFi but then I can't play with my friend, which is half the reason I play....

Top ways to get your Minecraft v1.9 to freeze on the Nintendo Switch (which are new to v1.9):
Adding players in multiplayer split screen and spreading out so you are 500+ blocks apart (this also drives down the FPS and lags terribly since the patch to v1.9)
Swimming has a very high change to freeze
Interacting with inventory items
Interacting with chests / anvil / enchanting table etc
As an extra special bonus to all of these freezing and reloading is that when Minecraft is loading up it seems to load your character before you can see / control so if you are near any monsters or in water you will join the game dead and often not exactly where you last froze since your character may or may not have last saved close to it.
