I can only use /effect to get strength up to 75 before it resets t 0 and stays.

Could not confirm on Windows 10. I had no trouble giving myself strength with an amplifier of 100 for 100 seconds.
Is this a regular infinite world? Are there any other effects on your player at the time? What message do you get in chat from the /effect command?
